The Performance Hall is for Dance and Drama students to perform their practical pieces in front of an audience and peers. This hall allows for multiple stages of varying sizes, there being 3 stages in total. There are also smaller performance rooms that can be used, especially by Dance Students who need an area to practice most times. Drama students often use the smallest of the three stages as their practice area.

This course offers training in the core technique of contemporary dance and experience in a broad range of genres including ballet, hip hop, jazz and yoga, in addition to alternative dance styles from a diverse range of global cultures, including Latin. Duo and partnering are also learnt within these styles. Performance events across site-specific, digital and theatrical domains engage you with the public interface of your practice. Technology is integrated within choreographic workshops which include the exploration of a variety of interdisciplinary approaches. When not in the studio you will engage with theoretical knowledge, involving analysing and reflecting on both the mind and body in dance, and the roles of diverse styles.
You can choose to study other creative industries disciplines including creative writing, drama, entertainment, fashion, interior design studies, journalism, music studies and visual arts practice. If you wis h to become a primary or secondary school dance teacher you will complete your dance studies by studying a minor in a different subject area, allowing you to develop skills for a second teaching area. You will benefit from partnerships with organisations such as Expressions Dance Company, the Montreal Ballet Company and the Royal Academy of Dance UK.

"I do hope I'm not late!" Jessica exclaimed to herself as she quickly made her way through the hallways. Musical Theater had gone a little over time and she was worried she wouldn't make it in time to her next class. Luckily, she heard the bell go off and could relax for a moment.
She unlocked the door and switched the light on, students filing in after her. Some of them were in clothing that would not be suitable for dancing and she would have to break the news to them that there would be a dress code for this class. Black leggings, or shorts, and a white t-shirt. Something that was simple and not something that would get in the way. But not an official uniform, because students were allowed freedom with the choices. Her only concern was that the leggings had to be a decent material; see through leggings would mean sitting out of the class.
She counted at least thirty-one students and checked it against her roll. Everyone seemed to be there, so she made her way to her desk in the corner and clicked her pen to get their attention. "My name is Miss Deringer-Colm, but you may call be Miss Colm if it is too difficult to remember," she started. She began calling off names, ensuring all of her students were inf act accounted for.

Alda walked into the room and took a seat along the wall. She was currently wearing shorts and a grey shirt with converse sneakers. She was stretching out as students came in. When Mrs Colm struggled with her Icelandic name, she decided to help her out. "It's Rahg-n-hi-der. Most struggle with the Icelandic pronounciation. If it's too hard, Heider works." she mentioned with a slight accent. She wanted to make a good first impression, so she hoped she didn't come off as snobbish or uptight.
#3EB489 // "" #006B3C Meera followed after Autumn, Esmeralda, and Waylon down the hall to the Dance Area. She walked inside and looked around, noticing students already taking selfies. She rolled her eyes and wondered if what she was wearing was appropriate. She had on a chic outfit and assumed it was something that was free enough not to restrict movement and not to be revealing. If there was a problem, the teacher would surely let everyone know as soon as possible. She stood alongside her friends and wondered if anyone else she knew would be in this class. So far, it seemed unlikely. She listened to Mrs Colm and nodded to show she understood. She was keen to get dancing and find out what they would be doing for the term.
Esmeralda smiled walking with Waylon and talked to him and Meera and Autumn as they all caught up to each other. She was glad to have friends in this class. She didn't think she would have any trouble moving in class since her jeans were more of a jegging stretchy material but she would keep in mind to bring a change of clothes in her backpack. They had time to change between classes so it wouldn't be any problem. She looked to the teacher as she came rushing towards them and opened the door to let them in. She walked in with the others as they found a spot to sit. She looked to the teacher as she called role. She raised her hand and smiled when her named was called and looked around the room as everyone was called then looked to Alda when she helped the teacher to say her name which was rather difficult. She wondered what they would be doing for their first day of class.

Alda was busy stretching when roll call was finished. She was excited to start dancing and wanted to be ready. She was hoping for something better than just stereotypical "pop or hip hop" that most dance classes started with. This was University level, she was hoping for more. Ballroom dance, Latin dance, or maybe even Broadway musicals? Would they warm up to a particular song each day, or something new? She was hoping they'd get started, an hour would go by extremely quickly.

Jessica made sure all of her students were present, and made notes of any name pronunciation, such as with Alda and three other students. There were, at most, seven boys in a class of almost thirty. Seven was better than none, but she was a little disappointed. She'd just have to promote dance well this term and maybe there would be a late surge of students. She put her clipboard down and walked into the middle of the room.
"Some class rules that will be enforced strictly. Rule One, comfortable clothing that is suitable for dancing must be worn, such as leggings and a simple t-shirt, preferably white in color. Shorts and t-shirts are acceptable, but jeans are not. Jeggings fall into the grey area, if they allow movement they are fine. If you are not in correct uniform, you will be asked to leave. Rule Two cellphones are to be put on silent and left in your bag. Unless you have a dire need for it to be on, such as a family emergency or call from Medical, they are not to be out in class. You're here to dance, not update your twitter feed. Rule Three, do not be late for classes, or you will be required to make up for lost time in your Free Time hour," she commented.
"Now," she continued, "this term we will be going over Ballroom Dancing. This includes the waltz, foxtrot, vienna waltz, quicktep, and tango. Your assessment will be a creative dance including main elements from these ballroom dances. Next term will be Latin Dances; rumba, samba, paso doble, cha-cha and jive. We will begin each class with a warm-up routine, and this will change each term. Our song will be Gotye's Out Here In The Cold. shall we begin with a stretch?"
She took a stance and waited for the students to make several spaced lines and follow her lead.
Alda quickly took a stance like Mrs Colm was doing, making it clear students were meant to follow. She readied herself, ballroom dance always seemed easy, but it was difficult to follow. She knew that what she learned here would lend itself to her extra curricular class, because she was doing SCA and was meant to be a ballroom dancer. She was excited to learn more and more dances, even if her favorite was still one met with much prejudice; pole dancing. She made sure her hair was tied back so it wouldn't get in her face. The group she saw before on the sides ended up next to her, so she got ready to follow along.

𝓣𝓱𝓮𝓼𝓮 𝓪𝓻𝓮 𝓶𝔂 𝓯𝓻𝓲𝓮𝓷𝓭𝓼 𝓦𝓪𝔂𝓵𝓸𝓷, 𝓐𝓾𝓽𝓾𝓶𝓷, 𝓪𝓷𝓭 𝓔𝓼𝓶𝓮𝓻𝓪𝓵𝓭𝓪," she finished as she got into the first Dance Position. She knew them by heart, but some of the class wouldn't. She got herself ready and took a breath in as the music started. Mrs Colm slowly did each position, the class following along well. Once all five positions were out of the way, they began to do their routine, bit by bit. The first class would likely be learning the warm-up dance more than starting ballroom dances, but that was fine for Meera. The song itself was one that Meera had not heard, although she was familiar with "Somebody That I Used To Know" from the same artist. She liked the song, for it's slow, strong string instrument feel and vocals.

Waylon got himself in line and got ready, noticing some students being moved next to himself and the others from Choir. It seemed they had some promise in their moves to be placed at the front. He didn't say anything and followed along, learning what they would be dancing every single class as a warm-up. He'd have to do a light stretch between choir and dance, but they were in the same area, so it wouldn't be a huge ordeal. Once they had got the whole 4 minute edit of the song done, they were given a usb stick which had the moves recorded onto it, so they could look at it while in their dorm. He hung the usb on the room key in his pocket and tossed it to his bag, as to not lose it during class.

Cherry was moved to the front row from the back by Mrs Colm, but she didn't hide the uncomfortable look on her face very well. She preferred being hidden in the background, not in focus, but she couldn't really voice her opinion, could she? She finished the number and while some students ran for drink bottles, she smiled at those in the line with her. Her scarf remained on her, and she would not be taking it off. She had already given the teacher a letter stating why she wore it, but if anyone tried to take it off of her, she'd fight back. It wasn't something she wanted to remove, it made her feel safe.

Autumn danced to her heart's content in the front row, feeling every note and making sure to get her timing and rhythm perfect. The less time the class spent getting the warm-up dance fixed, the sooner they could move to ballroom dance. She waned to move to Latin dance, since it was second nature to her, but maybe that was cheating. She looked to Esmeralda and smiled brightly as some students ran for a drink already. She smiled at the two new-comers to their line. "Nice to meet you guys," she grinned.

Alistair had to run from the Serena Williams Hall of Sport to the Performance Hall, but he'd made it on time. He'd have to consider leaving a little earlier to make sure he wasn't so out of breath before dancing. He took a quick drink from his water bottle before smiling at Esmeralda and the others. "Pleasure to meet you all," he said in his soft Scottish accent. He readjusted his hair into a tight bun instead of a ponytail, so it wouldn't hit him in the face. Many girls were giggling behind him, probably wondering why such a manly man was doing dance. He could almost hear them questioning his sexuality before the tiny Caucasian girl (Cherry) all but death glared them for him. He nodded his head in approval to her before getting ready for the next part of class.

Would they even have time to learn the moves of ballroom dance, or would it be a video showing of the types of dance. She hoped it was a hands on approach, but with some students huffing and puffing already, it might be better for a video. How could people with a low fitness level take university level dance? It blew her mind. She looked at her friends and let out a laugh as she waved at two unfamiliar faces in the front line. "𝓜𝔂 𝓷𝓪𝓶𝓮 𝓲𝓼 𝓜𝓮𝓮𝓻𝓪, 𝓷𝓲𝓬𝓮 𝓽𝓸 𝓶𝓮𝓮𝓽 𝔂𝓸𝓾 𝓪𝓵𝓵," she stated warmly.

Jessica passed out a usb with the warm-up routine moves on it for future reference. Those who didn't have a good understanding of the dance by tomorrow would be kicked tot he back. That was not the place to be. She knew that the warm-up routine had taken a lot of time away from the class, but many of the faces in the room seemed unfamiliar with dance. How did they pass the preliminary rounds to get into this class? That was something she'd have to bring up with the Administrative Council later. For now, she would have to resort to videos to give her students a good understanding of the latin dances.
"Alright, eyes and ears here please. We don't have a lot of time left of class, so the rest of class time is going to be watching videos of Ballroom and Latin dances. Remember what you can, tomorrow we dive into the waltz. That should be mastered quickly, so after the normal and vienna watz dances, we move to the tango," she stated. "As for the warm-up tomorrow, it needs to be practiced and polished, because if you can't keep up, you'll be moved to the back of class. If you keep failing, there will be a discussion of staying in the class or not," she firmly stated. She wasn't going to d**k around with students who didn't show commitment and drive.
Esmeralda smiled when she was introduced and got in line as they began the routine. She smiled back at Autumn since she was excited for the Latin dances as well. She was glad to have her friends in the class though there were lots of faces she didnt recognize. She took the USB and clipped it to the keychain on her back pack before returning to the group. "I'm Esmeralda. NIce to meet everyone" she said and looked back to the teacher as she called for everyones attention and sat down as she began to show the videos of the dances. She was a very serious dance teacher which she didnt mind but she was sure there would be students that would not be able to keep up.
