UNSC Marines
The squad is on average a 14 man unit, not including additional officers such as lieutenants or specialty units such as language experts which can be added on as necessary. The average Riflemen utilizes a 6.5mm Caseless (3500 joule) MA5 battle rifle, the average SAW Gunner utilizes a 6.5mm Caseless machine gun, and the average marksmen utilizes a .338 Lapua (7100 joule) BR55 sniper rifle. All riflemen effectively double as grenadiers, using underbarrel 25mm grenade launchers, while grenadiers typically possess heavier grenade launchers. The heavy machine gunner utilizes a .338 Lapua machine gun, while the heavy grenadier utilizes a 40mm x 53mm shoulder fired grenade launcher. In this way one fireteam functions as a "heavy" unit which provides firepower to the rest of the unit, while the other two operate as "light" units designed to flank the enemy. All three units are expected to provide each other bounding overwatch, however the heavy fireteam is less mobile and thus leap frogs less than the other two on average. In some light units, the heavy fireteam is abandoned entirely to give three identical fireteams (save for specialty units). The infantry lack a primary means of anti-tank warfare, and utilize javelin anti-tank missiles as needed, in addition to relying on their APC's or helicopters for this role.

ODST
The squad is on average a 15 man unit, not including additional officers such as lieutenants or specialty units such as language experts which can be added on as necessary. The unit is designed both to be entirely self contained, possessing everything it need to combat the majority of threats. The ODST serve both as shock troops and as troops which can remain fully operational in the field, requiring enormous endurance in order to remain in the field. Their structure and behavior is similar to the U.S. army rangers, but the rely more on heavy equipment to achieve their objectives. The average Riflemen utilizes a .338 Lapua (7100 joule) BR-55 battle rifle, the average SAW Gunner utilizes a .338 Lapua caseless machine gun, and the average marksmen utilizes a .50 Caliber (20000 joule) 99D sniper rifle. All riflemen effectively double as grenadiers, using underbarrel 25mm grenade launchers, while grenadiers typically possess heavier grenade launchers. The infantry typically possess anti-tank capabilities, with light units possessing 1 javeline anti-tank weapon per fireteam, typically used by the grenadier in each squad. HULC units have each soldier carrying 2 javeline anti-tank missiles and 1 stinger anti-air missiles. The rely heavily on their APC's and infantry transport vehicles to provide close support, but they can operate independently from them for weeks at a time if necessary.
