"The silent voice within one's heart whispers the most profound wisdom."

Welcome to the 2018 metaplot for the Pridelands. Here is where you will be able to find all the information that you need to understand and play in this plot.

If you have any questions or need further clarification, please PM Safaia on Gaia or on Discord (Safaia#8539).

Warning: Not everyone will enjoy this metaplot.
It is up to you how much it will directly affect each of your Pridelanders, but it will affect the pride to its very core.
If you chose to not play in it, please keep an eye out for announcements to understand what is happening.

"Attaining one's dream requires a stern will and unfailing determination."

Feb 22nd - This thread is officially open for posting. Please feel free to post in this thread if you have any members who may either want to join the cult, express their opinions, or if you have roleplays that relate to the Meta. I would like to have everything linked in one place for easier reading.

Feb 3rd - This has been a long time coming, but the meta is finally going to begin! There have been bits and pieces strung along for a couple years now, but I am focused and determined to complete everything this year. Its been re-written quite a few times, and the scale has been expanded to affect more SoA, but just within the Pridelands.

Please take note that this is a metaplot examining choices and the consequences of those choices. While mostly everything is already planned, you have the choice to decide how your pridelander (or even passing rogue) will be affected by this. This is not a meta where you can ignore it; this will affect everything. Most of the roleplays done will be reactionary; your character won't directly affect what is happening, but will have the option to form their opinions and react how they see fit. This means that while there will be ORPs, they won't be strung along into giant conversations.

"Celebrate life's grandeur... Its brilliance... its magnificence..."

The Royalty & Those Close to Them
Tau (Safaia) - The current king of the Pridelands. He is a decent ruler, though he depends on his grandfather to guide him. He has been ignoring the pressure of producing an heir due to fear tied to his cub-hood that the Pridelands doesn't actually want him. Fancies Aoife, best friends with Kituwe.
Simi (Safaia) - Previously the king of the Pridelands. Mated to Tufah, descendant of Taka. A kind and approachable lion, he is quite beloved by his pride. He was never expected to take the throne, but unforeseen circumstances required him to take it. He now sits on the council, doing his best to guide the pride to further prosperity.
Arasi (Meepfur) - A senior council member, Arasi is son to Shomoro, and is a well known member of the Pridelands.
Wahabu (Ecavi) - Wahabu is a skilled seer and the fact that he is one of two children left behind by the Goddess of Souls is a poorly kept secret. He is at the head of a large family, the largest branch to descend from Miamba, and has been on the council for years. His mate, Shani, is one of few Head Huntresses in the pride at the moment.
Kituwe (Ecavi) - One of Wahabu's youngest sons, Kituwe was asked by the council to befriend Tau to help him adjust to life in the Pridelands. Being a nice guy, he was happy to give it a shot and now considers Tau to be his best friend.
Aoife (Safaia) - A skilled, strong seer who is impulsive for all the right reasons. She is helpful, empathetic, and loves her extremely large family. Is third cousins with Tau, and knows that he fancies her. She brushes it off for the moment, only hoping that her friendship with Tau will help her better assist the pride.

The Clan of the Unknown
Vitha (Safaia) - Daughter of Sparo and a rogue, and granddaughter of Radi. A fateful night at the border of the Pridelands terrified her, and she's convinced that hard will befall the Pridelands if preparations are not made. Wholeheartedly loves her pride and believes in the future.
Mkate (Safaia) - Eldest son of Biskuti, mated to Vitha. Deeply devoted to his mother, and strived to make her happy. Her murder shattered his heart, and he has been a recluse ever since.
Pipi (mouselet) - Pipi's a cheerful lioness who loves her home, her family, and her friends. Vitha's concerns made her worry for these loves, so she sacrifices in order to keep them safe.

The Fallen
Biskuti (Safaia) - A former scout, Biski had Mkate when she was only an adolescent, so she grew up with him and learned of the world with him at her side. She loved her eldest son dearly, and spoiled him rotten. Was murdered on the border over a year ago (ICly), and her murder is still unsolved. Granddaughter of Wahabu.
Kohaku (Safaia) - Daughter of Aziza. Murdered on the border, her daughter Rinj disappeared.
Shani (Ecavi) - Head Huntress, mate to Wahabu. Went missing the day prior to the night of the meteorite shower. No one has seen her since.
Lumina (Safaia) - Murdered by Mwisho in front of the pride for her ineptitude. Body was taken away by Mo'onasi.
Mwovu (Safaia) - Father of Vitha. Was visiting the pride on the night of Mwisho's rage, and became the first victim of the meteorites.
Aziza (Meepfur) - Daughter of Shomoro. Died protecting her grandson.
Shinda (Meepfur) - Died protecting her son from the meteorites.
Isithunzi (Felyn) - Died protecting some of the adolescents from the meteorite storm.
Uzalishaji (Krysin) - Son of Ezeoha. Died protecting his youngest children in the meteorite storm with his mate.
Kiasi'Nyota (Felyn) - Daughter of Amari and Maawio. Died protecting her youngest children in the meteorite storm with her mate.
Uzuzi (Ecavi) - Son of Council Member Wahabu and Shani. Died while trying to get adolescents to flee the incoming danger, but the sudden onset of meteorites killed him.
Wahabu (Ecavi) - Council Member, mated to Shani and patriarch of his family. Went missing days after the meteorite shower, and has not been seen since.

(I will add more as the meta progresses, and if new members of note emerge from rps)

"Only courage in the face of doubt can lead one to the answer..."

The Cult of the Devoted
It all started one evening on the border. She had been contemplating the future, without the courage to take the first step. Something overcame her, and when she awoke, her soul was frozen with terror. What had happened that night? Was there a way to prevent that terrible force from returning?

If you met Vitha, and you gave her a moment of your time, you would hear her story. A large, looming black form had overtaken her, and the details are hazy. She admits it. But something wrong happened, and it is something that she hopes never returns to the Pridelands. Based on old stories that her rogue-father told her, she has determined that trying to appease this unknown force is the best way to prevent a return. If you had a strong feeling that something awful was going to happen, wouldn’t you want to take the steps to protect your family and your homeland? Please, help Vitha and the Pridelands in their time of need.

To appease this godly force, Vitha has determined that acknowledging its presence is the start. Traditionally, the Pridelands are an atheistic pride, only placing their trust in the concept of the circle of life, and honoring their ancestors. Though there are and have been gods that walked along side pride members, they have always been treated as fellow mortals and nothing else. To convert long-apathetic minds of godhood into respect and acknowledgement will be the first, and hardest, step for the cult. They also offer the choicest bits of their meals as offerings (always on the border to keep the godly being out), survey the borders for any sign of a return, and offer to assist anyone who asks for help. They also listen closely to any seers willing to share their visions with them, hoping to see any signs that their work is paying off.

This cult is wholly devoted to doing what is right and helping protect the Pridelands.

The Anti-Cult
Aoife is a strong seer, friendly with the king and related to a large arm of the Pridelands population. She has always been friendly and helpful to anyone who asked; when Vitha approached her about her concerns, Aoife was originally concerned….but her visions turned up nothing like what Vitha described. Aoife’s visions were long, and normally came in dreams; she saw much of the same, the Pridelands carrying on as usual with nothing apparent happening. The one thing she never saw was an heir from Tau; but she did not share this information with anyone but the old king, Simi.

After seeing how Vitha aggressively (in Aoife’s opinion) continued to recruit for her ridiculous cult, Aoife has taken a more public stance in diminishing what Vitha has been saying. How could there be doom to the Pridelands when life was so good? There was nothing on the horizon, from her visions or those from other seers; why panic the public over something with no proof? And so, Aoife attempted to calm the waters of Vitha’s stone.

How to React
As their numbers slowly grow, it is expected that more and more of the pride hears about them. How does your member take to this strange concept that the Pridelands are in trouble?

  • Regular Members: Are they sympathetic to their cause, or do they merely think Vitha is crazy? Is she humiliating her family and pride? Is this something that they even care about, or will they just continue life as usual? Or, is your member aggressive (in words or violence) towards cult members?

  • New Converts: Understanding and wanting to help Vitha’s cause, what would your member say to others (converts or no)? Do they have their own take on how to petition the godly figure to grant mercy and spare the Pridelands? How do they handle potential aggression thrown at them?

  • Seer: Does your seer see anything regarding what may be happening to the Pridelands? Are they sympathetic or agree with Aoife, and assume that Vitha is spreading lies? Your seer can potentially see different things as well; remember that the future is not guaranteed. smile

OOC Details
As it wouldn’t be too difficult for the nosy to determine, yes, it is Dathcharu’kai who cursed Vitha. She doesn’t know that, and at the moment I would like to extend OOC privilege powers and ask that you not take this information IC, even if you have seers. They can see part of what happened that night but not exactly who did it.

"It is indeed a precious gift to understand the forces that guide oneself..."

Chapter 1 is more of a summary of the events that happened over the last two years.

Tau, the king, was actually born in Tianxia; where his father, Hanjari, the son of Simi, wed the empress to solidify a political alliance. The Pridelands is a large pride, both though land mass as well as population. It has been on the brink of overpopulation for many generations. Simi hoped that by securing an alliance of an even larger pride, the Pridelands would have an avenue for survival. As so, as proof of his continued loyalty, Hanjari sent his son Tau to become the new heir of the Pridelands. This was not an easy transition; why a cub from another pride, and not one that was born within the borders of the Pridelands? Still, Simi accepted Tau as his heir, and when he became of age, Simi retired to the council and Tau became king.

To strengthen the relationship between Tianxia and the Pridelands, Tau received a visit from his birthpride; a strong group of fighters that would train the Pridelands on how better to fight to protect themselves; the attacks from the neighboring hyenas had increased, and it seemed like there was no way to dissuade them except developing their own small army to combat and drive back the hyenas.

Around this time, many of the seers in the pride all reported the same vision: odd, dark, and terrifying visions of masses of bodies shifting and turning over one another, like the grass swaying and dying. Nothing seemed to come of it, but it did develop a distrust of the Tianxians visiting around that time. Distrust of Tau's leadership grew, though it was more like a bump along the road; after a time, it was forgotten.

Shortly before the Tianxian militia left, a murder was discovered; Biskuti, a descendent of Wahabu's was found murdered on the border by her son, Mkate. Outrage filled the air, but try as they might, no one was able to find the murderer, or really any proof of what happened other than the death of Biskuti. Mkate was heartbroken when it seemed like the pride moved on without her; for his mother was his entire world. But as the circle of life states, some have to live with the scars.

The Tianxia militia left, taking with them some Pridelanders that wanted a new life. Everything returned to normal....except Tau has still never taken a mate to produce an heir.

"One of life's greatest blessings is the freedom to pursue one's goals."

The night that changed Vitha's world still haunted her; how could she just ignore it and move on like nothing had ever happened? Her body would tremble when she resisted the urge to forget it. Forgetting a trauma overnight was impossible. The fear clung to her, and the only way to cope was to develop a plan for it to never happen again. Slowly, she started to recruit. Did anyone else feel like her, like things were not as good as they appeared? It was in this that she discovered Mkate, and breathed new meaning into his life.

Still, not everyone believed her. A lioness emerged, opposing Vitha. Aoife. Vitha tried to be more open with her worries and her feelings, but Aoife would always counter her worries. How could anything be wrong when the pride was so strong, with a young king and wise council to lead them? Still, Vitha continued her calling, trying to find others to help her turn away this unknown force.

The council gathered to discuss what was going on with the cult, and if they should really even give it much consideration. It didn't seem like a definite decision was made, but at least the council was able to come together to support one another, and what would be best for the pride.
Related RP: Council Meeting

Shani, mate to council member Wahabu and matron to a rather large extended family of the Pridelands, went missing earlier on the evening of the following ORP. It took far too long for anyone to notice where she went.... and no one would have been able to find her, regardless.
Related RP: This'll Do Nicely

On a beautiful clear night, many of the pride gathered to look at the stars and mingle together. King Tau wanted to develop it as a means to really get to know more of his kingdom, even if it was at the behest of his grandfather, Simi. There was conflict between Aoife and Vitha, but it began to ebb when a wicked black beast revealed himself in the night sky. He was screaming for another god, Dathcharu'kai, to reveal himself. As he did this, he had killed his companion and let her body hit the floor. Moments later, before anyone had time to react, a small meteorite shower began to crash into the Pridelands. The Great Kings of Old, as lore told it, were affected by the disaster that Death had wrought upon the mortal realm.

A few days after the trauma of the stars falling on the pride, Wahabu, long serving council memeber to the crown, goes missing as well. He left no trace, and panic about more murders begins to surface. How are so many well known member disappearing without a witness?
