Thank you JoyRose for requesting I make a new guide for the guild. I am honored to do this for such an amazing guild! I am aware that there is a booty grab guide already in the resources forum; however, booty grab has gone under some small changes since the guide was made.

In addition to providing an updated guide I hope to accomplish two more goals:
- to be available for user asked questions relating to BG and tanks
- to update and spruce the guild tank list and the lists in the Aquarium Forum

All the information in this guide is from The 2016 All-In-One Guide to Aquariums and Booty Grabbing, which is also made by me. I combined and updated the information from many out-of-date aquarium guides. These guides and the users who helped me are all listed in the credits section.

Booty grab, also known as BG, is a free to play gold and item granting game that appears in user signatures around Gaia.

Most of the time tanks are not glowing, but every few hours a tank will start glowing and other users can play Booty Grab.

1. If you see a glowing tank in a user's signature, click the tank. A new window will open.
User Image

2. The game will start after a short count down.
User Image

3. The object of the game is to collect as many coins as possible with your Overseer (shell) before time runs out.
User Image

Legend for full-size image:
a. Time - the dark area indicates how much time you have left
b. Gold - how much gold you've caught as well as the current multiplier value
c. Buff Timers - which buffs are active as well as the time remaining for the effect; time buffs are automatically added/deducted from the current time - you will not see the time buff indicator in this area
d. Options - (left to right) total gold earned by tank owner, fish information, tank health, tank temperature, sound on/off, view full screen; sound on/off is the only option that works when a booty grab game is in progress
e. You - this is your avatar and your overseer/shell
f. Buffs

Move your shell across the bottom of the tank using either your mouse or the right and left arrow keys. Touching a falling coin with your shell allows you to catch the coin and increase your score.

Most users find the mouse to be the most efficient way to grab; however, make sure your pointer doesn't run off the edges of the tank. If your pointer leaves the tank, your shell will either become stationary or slowly drift to one of the corners.

4. Collect blue buffs to help improve your score:

Avoid red buffs:

5. When the game is over you will see the amount of Gaia Gold earned.

Step 1. Decide what kind(s) of fish you want in your tank.
- You may have up to 17 fish in your tank.
- Lite fish do not glow, so avoid these fish. You can tell if a fish is a lite fish if the name contains [lite] and the item image contains Lite.
User Image (non-lite) vs User Image (lite)
- Goldfish are not recommended. See Common Glitches for more information.
- Many generous users will give fish and aquarium items away for free. Watch for give away threads in the Gaia Aquarium Discussion subforum. Other places you can get fish include Phin Phang and the marketplace. Dumpster Dive and Daily Chance occasionally grant fishes and aquarium items as well.
- My fish recommendations are available here.

Step 2. If you have never used Aquarium before, go to your aquarium under My Gaia and click on the exclamation mark beside Barrett.
- Barrett will then guide you through a tutorial on how to add fish to your tank and feed them.
- If you already went through Barrett's tutorial in the past and need a refresher: the process for adding fish is the same as adding decorations to your aquarium. See the next paragraph "Decorate your aquarium".
User Image

Step 3. Decorate your aquarium.
- In the top left corner of your tank is a button that says "Aquarium Inventory". When you click it, Barrett should appear beneath the button.
- Beneath Barrett is a list of item categories. Select the category you want to choose items from. After finding what you would like to add to your tank, click and drag the item into the tank. Sometimes you may have to shake the item around after clicking on it before the item actually moves with your mouse. When you are done, click the save button in the top right hand corner.
User Image User Image

Step 4. Advertise your tank
- Signature - For first time tank users, Barrett offers the opportunity to display your tank in your signature. Alternatively, go to your account preferences and select the option to show aquarium in your signature.
- Create a bump thread (see next section)
- Quote me if you have a brand new tank! I have a tank list dedicated to new tanks.
- Join a booty grab guild.

Personal Bump Thread

The purpose of a bump thread for a tank is for users to bump the thread when the tank glows; this brings the bump thread of the glowing tank to the top of the Aquarium Forum so that other users can grab the tank. BG bump threads are not supposed to be bumped when a tank is not glowing.

Step 1. Create a new topic in the Gaia Aquarium forum.

Step 2. Give the thread a temporary name such as: THREAD UNDER CONSTRUCTION. DO NOT POST.

Step 3. What to include in the first post of a bump thread.

Note: To make things quick and easy, I have provided instructions and coding for an example of a first post. All you have to do is modify some of the coding so it links to your tank and information! Check out this post!

Direct Link - This allows users to open your tank in a new tab (instead of a new window). It also allows users who have signature tanks blocked to access your tank. Many users find the direct link games are less laggy than games played through the signature tanks. This is by far the most important item to have in your first post! Keep it near the top of the post so users don't have to scroll through the first post or the page to find your tank.

Bump Link - Sometimes this link is to the thread itself. To spare a user the time it takes to load your thread and find the compose button, click it, and use the link to the post composition instead. You can also direct them to a quoted post composition. The benefit of this is you get notified that someone bumped your thread. It is beneficial to provide this link in your signature as well so users can bump your thread and potentially get you more players.

Tank Description - This is optional. You can tell users what kind of fish are featured in your tank.

Step 4. Make 15 more posts in the thread. This is not required, but it is encouraged! After posting the 15th post your thread should be on page 2.

Step 5. Delete all the posts on page 1 except for the very first post. What this does is makes your post the only post visible when users visit the first page of your thread. It also saves users time since they can find your tank right away and don't need to load any other posts (the page takes considerably longer to load if a dozen other users' tanks are on the first page). You may choose to keep 2-3 additional posts on the first page as reserved posts that you can edit in the future.

Step 6. Give the thread a new name. The bolder your thread name, the better.

Examples:
FULL DOLPHIN TANK IS GLOWING
Mermaids on Fire and Glowing!!!
Bob's mixed tank is GLOWING NOW~
Grab some BOOTY HERE~

Step 7. Provide a link to your bump thread in your signature so users can bump the thread when they see your tank glowing. Directly linking to the post composition in the thread will spare users a bit of time.

Step 8. Bump if your tank is glowing!

Linking to Your Bump Thread From Tank

Step 1. Determine the topic ID of your bump thread. If you go to the first page of your bump thread and look at the URL, you should see a 't' and series of numbers listed after the name of your thread. The numbers after the 't' are your topic ID.

User Image

(If you're not on page one of the thread the number might look like this: ######_##. Delete the underscore symbol ( _ ) and the numbers after the underscore. My example URL contains 7 number slots, but your thread ID may contain fewer or more numbers. Note that your tank ID and topic ID are NOT the same.)

Step 2. Go to your Account Preference in Account Settings. In the Feature Options (right side of the page, below the sections for Guilds and Forums & Guilds) there is a box in which you can enter your topic ID.

User Image

Step 3. After saving the changes you should see the blue link available at the bottom of the window containing your tank (when viewed through direct link or by clicking Visit My Aquarium if your signature contains your tank). If you click the link, it should open your bump thread in a new window.

User Image

You can link to your thread, but you are not able to link to post composition through the tank.

Username - Bump - Tank

You are welcome to use the provided coding in the first post of your bump thread! Just change the parts in the coding that say:
  • Username
  • BBBBBB, which is the URL for the reply box to your bump thread
  • TTTTTT, which is your tank ID
  • UUUUUU, which is your user ID

Note: This code is intended for the first post of a bump thread. You will not be able to post the entire code in your signature.

Copy the coding and paste in the first post of your bump thread.
Don't forget to change the parts mentioned above.
Username - Bump - Tank

  • Instructions for linking to the REPLY BOX of your bump thread:
    - Go to your bump thread and click the big yellow box that says "Reply". Copy the URL at the top of the page you are directed to. The URL will look like this:
    User Image
    - You can also choose to have the reply box quote a particular message in your bump thread (often the first post). To do this, select the yellow box above the desired post that says "Quote". Copy the URL at the top of the page you are directed to.

  • Instructions for finding your TANK ID:
    - Open your tank through direct link or through your signature. The set of numbers listed after "EnvironmentId" in the URL is your Tank ID. In the image below, the Tank ID is in red.
    User Image

  • Instructions for finding your USER ID:
    - Method 1: Go to your profile page. The last set of numbers in the URL for your profile is your User ID.
    - Method 2: Open your tank through direct link or through your signature. The set of numbers listed after "tank" in the URL is your User ID. In the image below, the User ID is in red.

If you are having trouble with the coding, feel free to ask for help!

The full list of BG Etiquette is available here. I know the post contains a lot of information to sort through, and it may make booty grabbing seem a bit scary; however, following the suggestions will make other users more willing to interact with you, there will be fewer PMs from annoyed users in your inbox, and you and other users will have more fun with BG.

If you do not have the time or patience to read the entire post, at least abide by these three guidelines:

  1. Treat other users with respect.
  2. Listen to the advice and suggestions experienced tank owners give you.
  3. Be patient. You won't always get a dozen plays, but the plays will happen!

Dark's Tips
  • The more you interact with other tank owners and bump/grab their glows, the more they see your tank and are likely to grab it when it glows!
  • Start small and grow big. New tank owners rarely see more than 1 or 2 grabs a week, so it is not worth buying the most expensive fish on the marketplace (even if it drops a ton of booty). I suggest starting with less expensive fish, such as Dolphins and Irrawaddy Dolphins.
  • For a glow to be triggered, you do have to log in at least once every 24 hours. Even if you don't plan to do anything on Gaia, logging in will ensure your tank glows.
  • There is no such thing as a stupid question! Ask away!
