Linsey Grey-Cavendish Ravenclaw Alumnus │ Nineteen Years Old │ Fashion Designer and Artist │ Single
A swirl of competing thoughts and emotions warred for primacy in Linsey’s thoughts after she and her sister Apparated home. The look in Serghei’s eyes was what she took with her as she hugged her sister, shielding her with her body when they made their abrupt departure from the townhouse in Kenmare. It was close to a three-hour drive on the toll roads between Kenmare and Waterford, and roughly an hour more if one used the longer route, and while Linsey was pretty sure an Apparation couldn’t be traced, and, if it could, probably not for the distances involved in this case, and likely there was a period of time after which such a Charm would prove useless, as she wasn’t taking any chances that she might inadvertently lead Markus all the way home.
The Ravenclaw alum Apparated them back to the market in Kenmare they’d departed not so long before making a second Apparation to a farm out in the middle of the island that had stood abandoned since the Great Famine, she and Aunt Lynn visited every once in a while before making another Apparation, this time to a familiar alley in Dublin she used as a departure point, before finally making a further jump through the Immaterium which put them in her bedroom.
So abrupt was their arrival, even Blannat, who was stretched out on her bed and snoozing like he always did when she was away at work. A quick look around told Linsey everything was as it usually was in her room; it was darkened and quiet, the heavy drapes were covering the big bay windows of her art studio, while twilight filtered through the skylights above them. It was only then that she stood up and held out her hand to help Ella up, after having been stashed in a cupboard.
“It’s okay, Ella. We’re home,” she told her sister in a reassuring tone, knowing if there were strangers in the house, Blannat wouldn’t have been still crashed out on her bed. Beyond the immediate, everything was decidedly not okay. Markus spoke of Serghei stealing from the family, and then of some prophecy about a ghost and a traitor, and that she could possibly fill the role of ghost as she had ‘unusual features.’ Markus was planning to kill Serghei and possibly her to derail this prophecy, which if fulfilled would put an end to the whole demented ‘Soldați Perfecți’ business.
That Serghei ‘stole’ from his family made some sense; it was likely just some money, as Linsey heard stories of kids running away from home doing just that since they didn’t usually have a support system to run to. But surely father and son could have worked out a repayment, without matters coming to this, and made amends. Except the Antonovs weren’t a normal family, and their patriarch was the closest thing to pure evil Linsey had ever encountered in her life. A man who would starve and neglect Ella nearly to death would think nothing of murdering his son and his girlfriend over a trifling matter of money, assuming the prophecy wasn’t legit. It was also likely he was lying to drive a wedge between her and Serghei, again, she put nothing past this bodach.
Looking at her faithful wolfhound companion, Linsey told him, “Protect Ella, Blannat,” before she rushed out of her room and started wandering the house shouting for their parents. After a few moments, she returned with a piece of paper, and she told Ella, “Okay, Mom and Dad are down in Cork for the weekend. The McChandlisses just had their baby, so they’re visiting and helping them out.” After drawing a deep breath, Linsey said with a look of determination in her eyes, “I’m going back to help Serghei.”

As much as Ella had thought she was safe, her heart nearly broke when Radovan appeared in a frenzy. Within a moment, she was being fitted underneath the sink in a cabinet just behind Linsey. If things went south, she would get Ella safely away. She didn't want her life to flip upside down again. She liked the safety of being with her new family!
But she already knew all about Father's temper. There was almost certainly going to be a fight. She just had to make sure no one died, right? But then came his voice. That voice haunted her nightmares. It took every ounce of concentration for Ella not to break down and cry right there. She had to be brave, and more importantly, she had to be silent. Her small hands covered her mouth, trying to focus only on the words. Oh, he knew Linsey’s name! What if her sister was his target???
Father spoke of prophecy and how Linsey looked like she might fill the role of a ghost... but Ella's eyes went wide as she realized just who he was talking about. It wasn't Linsey at all, but it was Ella. Silent tears dropped down her cheeks as she listened on. If Linsey got hurt, it would be all her fault! After all, she's the one that brought Linsey into the whole mess. If she had just stayed in Romania or at school her first year, Linsey never would have needed to rescue her. Ella felt a pang of guilt interlaced with terror. Her whole body was shaking as she listened to the argument above.
And all at once, Serghei said something in French. Ella wasn't certain the exact words, but she reached up for Linsey's hands. It was an odd position, but they apparated away. As they landed, Ella was pulled in closer for several other apparations. Oh, those made her belly do flips. But finally, they landed safely in Linsey's bedroom, safe at home with Blannat. "I-I’m sorry, Linsey. I didn't want you to.... to have to meet him.” Her small voice escaped through quiet sobs as she tried to apologize for everything all at once. She never wanted Linsey in danger by the family. Hers was so good and Ella's was rotten to the core.
Wide brown eyes, still wet with tears, looked over when Linsey told Blannat to keep her safe. The smaller teen stepped closer to the big dog. She watched as her sister hurried around, returning to explain where their parents were. But then she said she was going back to help. "I-if Father is still there, promise me you won't try to fight him. Pl-please, Linsey, you have to promise me! I-I can't lose you! Her voice was louder than usual, though interspersed by sobs. Ella couldn't bear the thought of Linsey getting hurt. But after a big hug to her sister, she nodded. "I'll gather the medical kit. Just be safe. I love you, Linsey.”

Linsey released her breath as she and Serghei appeared inside her home. She held him close for fear they might be pulled apart as they Apparated, and she immediately checked his pulse when they arrived with a pop of displaced air. The Ravenclaw alum was rewarded with a slight throbbing under the skin of his neck and the sound of his breathing. It worried her that one was weak and thready, and the other shallow, but at least he was still with her, and he survived the trip home. Now she needed to keep him alive.
Rather than simply return to her bedroom, Linsey chose the guest room as her destination, as it was quiet and seldom used, and had its own bathroom. There was a part of her that wanted to shield her sister from seeing Serghei in this condition, but she knew this wasn’t practical as Ella would know to follow Blannat as he would come looking for her as soon as he knew she was back, and she was gathering supplies for what they both assumed would be a medical emergency. Linsey also knew Mom and Dad would object to Serghei being in her room, even if he were on death’s door. The room also had a large comfortable bed which wasn’t covered in dog hair.
Not knowing if Serghei could hear her or not, Linsey said to him in a soft voice, while trying hard to sound brave for him “It’s okay, Serghei. We’re home, safe and sound, and I won’t let anything else happen to you.” Linsey glanced over at the king-sized bed, gestured with a couple fingers and the comforter was pulled away, and she cast another Charm to ensure the pillows, sheets and the mattress wouldn’t be ruined by blood as she saw the bandages she used as a stopgap were already soaked. She then carefully levitated Serghei off the floor, and gently lay him on the bed, his head resting on a pillow.
Linsey shucked the cloak, as it was no longer needed, and noted the Light-Scattering Charm already expired and likely did sometime while she was still in the townhouse. After turning on a light and making sure it was enough for her to do her work without hurting Serghei’s eyes, she gestured again and generated a bright nimbus of light in midair where an image of his body and the injuries he’d sustained appeared.
As she started her work, Linsey heard a ‘thump, thump’, followed by a very familiar ‘woof’, and then the doorknob rattled before being turned as Blannat bulled his way into the guest room to be with her.

From the second that Linsey had vanished from sight, Ella allowed herself a few seconds of sheer panic. Father hadn't sounded calm and rational (though when did he ever?), and it certainly seemed that he was out for blood. Ella knew that it likely meant the end for Serghei, either physically or perhaps he would be dragged back to Romania to face whatever consequences Father and the older brothers would opt to dish out. Unfortunately, she also knew that if Linsey was caught, there was an additional worry. Markus didn't know her, and likely he didn't care if Linsey was alive or not by the end of matters.
If something happened to Linsey, Ella knew she would never be able to forgive herself. Linsey was an angel on earth and she... well... she was the sole reason Linsey was roped into all this mess! But after her moment of tears, Ella wiped her eyes and drew in a deep breath. Letting out an exhale, she got to work. Silent feet moved as fast as Ella's little legs could go, the brunette finding the large medical kit in the house. There was stuff to help fix just about anything that could happen. She also skittered into the kitchen to find an ice pack in case there were bumps. Sure, Linsey was a good healer and Ella was doing grand in the class as well, but given Ella wasn't yet seventeen, she couldn't help in a magical capacity.
When she heard the loud pop of apparation, followed by a bark from Blannat, Ella lifted the heavy medical kit. "Go find them, Blannat. Come on, buddy." As soon as the dog took off, the teen hurried afterward. Of course, his legs were all but longer than hers, but thankfully Blannat was used to loping along at her speed. Ella opened the door so he could walk into the guest room. At the sight there, Ella gasped. Oh, it looked so much worse than she'd expected!
"Is he.... is he okay?" Tears welled up in her eyes once more, stepping over and clicking open the med kit. As she stood closer, she was able to notice the shallow rise and fall of Serghei's ribs. He was alive, but it didn't seem it would be for long if they didn't get to work. She quickly grabbed supplies, making sure she was getting everything she could think to need. Linsey would have to do the magical part, but Ella was determined to help in any way she could. "Haide, frate mai mare. Nu poți renunța acum." Her soft voice spoke in the sharper tones of Romanian. She'd watched her brothers survive some big hits over the years, but never with this much bloodshed. Anything like that had likely happened behind closed doors. "Linsey, tell me what to do and we'll get him taken care of. You and me together, okay?" Teary eyes looked up, the smaller brunette nodding toward her sister.

Linsey Grey-Cavendish Ravenclaw Alumnus │ Nineteen Years Old │ Fashion Designer and Artist │ Single
There was a pained look in Linsey’s eyes when she saw Ella come in with Blannat; more than many things she wanted to be able to shield her sister from all the awful things the world would throw at them, especially after living in a house with that terrible, evil man and his brainwashed cadre of child soldiers, and it hurt her knowing she couldn’t do this. Hearing Ella ask if Serghei was okay and seeing the tears in her eyes about broke Linsey’s heart. “I think if I hadn’t gotten to him when I did … ” she started, and then focused on the actual question, and she manipulated the image in the glowing field so Ella could see what it was showing her.
She admitted, “I’ve never seen anything like this when I was interning in the Hospital Wing. Aside from all the spell damage, he lost a lot of blood, took a nasty knock on the head, and there’s this … I don’t know what … carved in his left side, and he’s suffering from physical shock.” She gave her little sister a brave smile when she said something softly to Serghei, and said to her encouragingly, “Hang in there, Taibhse Beag, he’s counting us to help him, and he’s counting on you to share your strength and hope with him. Remember, while there’s life, there’s always hope ... Tell you what, I’ll handle the magic, you start cleaning him up, starting with that knot on the back of his head.”
Looking at Serghei, Linsey started tracing the wounds on his chest, deciding to save dealing with the rune for when she was sure Serghei wasn’t going to bleed out as the flow started overwhelming her stopgap measures. Looking at the angry shape seared like a brand into Serghei’s brutalized flesh made her eyes hurt and seemed to writhe with a malignant life of its own. ‘That thing is a curse. I’ll need my Cursebreaking notes to try dealing with it. Failing that I’ll have to consult with Aunt Lynn. Wish she hadn’t picked right now to check out a dig in Sekhara.’
As she traced the wounds with her fingers and caused flesh to close and become whole again, she looked over at her sister. With a smile, she said gently, “You know, I like that idea you had about dropping half an octave off the arrangement of that song for Sunday, so does Happy. Try singing it, let’s see what it sounds like.”

Standing beside Linsey, Ella tried to keep her hopes up. He was alive. He was in safe hands because Linsey hadn't ever failed to heal people before. She'd never ever let someone suffer if she could help it. Even knowing all that, when Linsey confessed that had she been a moment later, Serghei probably wouldn't be here. Ella sniffled softly, but tried to focus on the light show ahead of them both. When she saw the marks etched into him, a small gasp escaped.
She listened as Linsey said she'd never seen anything like that. Knocks to the head and cuts were something that could happen enough at Hogwarts. Heck, about a third of them were just Sebastian falling off of things! But she mentioned the marks, which gave Ella a chance to educate to some degree. "It's a curse. O-of course, I've never seen it, b-but Father was talking to Alexi... h-he mentioned a curse that was carved above the heart. I-it only works on our bloodline. Some sort of marking. I... if I had to guess, that's just what it is. B-but I don't know how to fix it. How to make it go away. Th-that's something Aunt Lynn can do, right?" Her question ended in a soft squeak, the teen trying her best to help, but her fear was exposed there.
After speaking to Serghei, Linsey told Ella to hang in there. He needed them to be brave. She said she could deal with the magic, so long as Ella could clean up. "Can do," she said, grabbing some of the supplies and moving to the top of his bed. Her small hands worked on carefully cleaning up the mess. While she was working, Ella tried to prevent the downpouring of tears. Healers were always calm in the face of disaster, right? Would Madame Kavanagh panic? Would Alice? Just as she was about to start crying again, Linsey spoke up. Honey-colored eyes looked over as her sister asked about the song they were set to sing at church. Now that Ella was in the choir, she'd been memorizing their songs.
Sure, this was a distraction, but it was one Ella needed. Sniffling softly, the brunette picked up the key. "O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder. Consider all the worlds thy hands have made, I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder, Thy power throughout the universe displayed..." Her voice was a bit shaky, but as on key as one could be without accompaniment. Her song was cut off by someone apparating nearby, followed by a familiar "Linsey! Ella?!"
The smaller looked up, then nodded to her sister. "It's Radovan!" Ella hurried, silently, to peek out of the room. Sure enough, it was Radovan, looking just as frenzied as he was when he'd warned them. It had to be him, since none of the others would know -or care enough to use- her preferred name. She hurried out, grabbing his hands to lead him back into the room.

Radovan was surprised to see Ella hurry out to greet him. But she was alive. She was crying heavily, but she was alive. He let her lead him to another room, where Linsey was working on a very cut up Serghei. But they were alive as well. "Slavă Domnului, sunteți cu toții în viață." He stepped in, letting go of his sister's hands so she could get back to work. There was a mess of blood, but based on what he'd seen in Kenmare, Serghei looked a lot more alive than he'd figured. "Please, tell me how I can help. I cleaned everything up and secured his house. No one but us will be able to get to it. Wait. Is that?"
Among the mess of scars was a pattern he'd seen before. It was one written in old family literature. "Semnul trădătorului." His words, usually strong, left in barely over a whisper. He pulled out his wand, casting a quiet spell. A soft blue light emanated from the tip as he very carefully traced over the markings. He had to do this in perfectly precise order, otherwise it could cause more damage than was already done. Slowly, the mark faded a bit as skin stitched back together. Radovan's hands were steady, despite his heart beating ever louder in his ears.
Once it had finished, he offered a small sigh. "It will never be fully gone. It works something like when a werewolf or vampire bites. It can be healed, but the scars will remain. I wish there were more I could do. Do you think you can heal him?" Radovan looked over at Linsey, a tear tracing down the scar in his cheek. He watched, trying to remember the healing spell Linsey was doing.
After a bit, a tense, painful moment, Radovan saw a hint of the deep citrine color of Serghei's gaze. He seemed disoriented, but who wouldn't under such circumstance? Ella stepped back, instinctively looking for someone to keep her safe. For now, it would have to be him. Radovan set a hand on the girl's shoulder, watching as Serghei seemed to figure out a bit. "A-am trecut? Am m-mers? Radovan?" Serghei murmured, his words slurring a bit as he found his brother.
Radovan squeezed Ella's shoulder before stepping over, then kneeling beside his brother. He needed to make sure he was in his eye-line since Serghei didn't seem all too certain where he was. "I'm here, Serghei. We're all here. And no, you did not die. You're far too strong for that." he chortled softly, trying to prevent the younger Antonov from spiraling into panic. Serghei looked a bit confused, slowly shaking his head. "N....no. That's not right. I saw..." Serghei's words faded out as his eyes drifted closed for a second before he could think of the words once more. "Am văzut un înger."
Radovan glanced over at the woman sitting beside him, then carefully turned his brother's gaze toward her. "You did indeed see an angel, Serghei. An angel who is right here." Serghei donned something of a grin, looking at the woman before him. Ella stepped closer to Linsey, wiping away tears. "She went back to save you. She found you after.... everything. But she brought you here and we-we got you all cleaned up and... and Radovan helped too. Y-you're gonna be okay." Ella's voice was quiet, still a bit shaky, and Radovan couldn't quite tell if she was trying to reassure Serghei or herself.
Blue eyes watched as he seemed to dip back out of consciousness, the pain still overwhelming him. Despite the Antonovs being trained explicitly to deal with pain, it was different when one was on the very brink of death. When he came to once more, Serghei mumbled something. Radovan leaned in closer, trying to understand. "She...signs her art..." his voice was soft, though it sounded like it was spoken through syrup. "Who? Linsey? I'm sure she does." But Serghei again shook his head. "No... Ella. B-but she signs... L-G-C.... not E-G-C, you see? She... not..." He murmured, dozing off yet again. Radovan looked over at Ella, as if she could answer his question.
"I... I used to sign it L-M-E, but then I got adopted. The L just... stuck. The only similarity." But why would that matter? Why would that be so important that Serghei used his precious little energy to tell them? Radovan pondered for a second, thinking back to the sights in Serghei's house. Wait. "On the wall across the kitchen. There was a framed drawing. A... a house, I think. If he was laying against the counter, it would've been in his eye line. It wasn't there. Father was carrying a frame... Father must have thought it was yours, Linsey. Please tell me the house is not this one?"
He looked over at Ella, who looked up between Linsey and Radovan. "N-no... it's an abandoned cottage near Hogsmeade. I worked on it on weekend trips... Serghei liked to sit with me on those weekends and talk while I drew. S-so once it was done..." "You gifted it to him and he framed it. I will make sure this house is safe. But we must not alert the authorities. We cannot tell the aurors, nor the healers. Everyone must believe he is gone for now. I have made my promises to keep you safe, and I will do this."

Linsey Grey-Cavendish Ravenclaw Alumnus │ Nineteen Years Old │ Fashion Designer and Artist │ Single
Linsey sucked in her breath as Ella described what the rune was which had been etched in a spot over Serghei’s heart. She wasn’t surprised it was something the Antonov Family had likely created such a magical curse, but it posed to her an odd question: why would Mr. Antonov have done such a thing and then left his son for dead afterwards? It made little sense to her to go through all that trouble, unless he was either covering his bets, or he assumed she would intervene on Serghei’s behalf or just sheer meanness. Ella suggested Aunt Lynn could perhaps figure out how to deal with it. “I was thinking that myself, Taibhse Beag. Right now, she’s down in Sekhara, but I should be able to consult with her tonight. Just our luck, everybody’s out of town at the same time.”
Ella was shaking and on the point of tears but giving her something else, something uplifting and reassuring, to focus on while they worked helped. Thankfully, if Ella got to be part of Marni’s select group who helped her out in the Hospital Wing, she wouldn’t have to deal with injuries like this, at least Linsey hoped she wouldn’t. Just as she was about to suggest they try the piece as a duet, Linsey heard the distinct pop of somebody Apparating close by, followed by having their names called out.
When Radovan appeared in the room, after Ella rushed out to lead him back to where they were, and being relieved they were all still alive, Linsey replied, “Only just so. Serghei was bleeding out when I found him. Now, its just a matter of us keeping him stable and giving him a chance to recover.” Radovan whispered a phrase, and Linsey repeated it back to him, “Semnul trădătorului, the’Traitor’s Mark’. Your father called Serghei a Tratore, and I called him on it. I hope he didn’t do this for my edification… I can consult with an aunt who’s a Cursebreaker, she’s used to unraveling curses spun by ancient Egyptian sorcerer-priests. If anyone can make this …obscenity go away, she would be it.”
Radovan asked if she could heal Serghei up, and Linsey saw he too was doing his best to keep up a brave front. Linsey simply nodded in response. After Serghei was wounded and she had to heal him up on the train back to school, Linsey asked Marni to tutor her in how to heal the effects of Dark Magic, classwork over and above what she was studying for her NEWTs, and now she was putting her lessons to practice. The Ravenclaw alum focused on tracing the wounds with her fingers, causing Serghei’s flaying skin to become whole, even though doing so caused her pain as though somebody were cutting her fingers open with razor blades. Though she knew she should be doing this with a wand, and the pain purely psychosomatic, Linsey knew Serghei needed her touch as much as he needed her magic.
Linsey was surprised when Serghei opened his eyes, and started to speak, and she paid close attention to what he was saying. Like the encounter with Mister Antonov, anything said might be important. She held Serghei’s hand as he looked over at his brother. She smiled as he said he saw an angel, and Radovan suggested it was Linsey that he saw. ‘I’m no angel. Angels are better souls than I,’ she told herself. She smiled as Serghei looked over at her, and glanced over as Ella told him how she went back for him. “I wasn’t ready to live in a world where my Persoană Pentru Totdeauna wasn’t a part of,” she said, her blue eyes glistening.
Serghei started talking about Ella signing her work using the same initials as she did, which honestly Linsey hadn’t really thought about, but it was true they shared the same initials, and it always seemed right. However, in this case, it seemed Mister Antonov stole a piece of work from the house thinking Linsey drew it, and instead it was a piece Ella drew. Thankfully, it was a piece depicting an abandoned cottage not far from the school, and as she thought about it, she knew the house, having used it as a subject for a homework assignment or two over the years.
After Serghei passed out again, Radovan told them how they needed to keep this whole affair under wraps, and Serghei needed to vanish, at least for a time. Linsey nodded, and she said, “I already discounted the idea of taking him to St. Mungo’s. I would have done it already if I thought it was a good idea, but I figured that your father would finish the job there if he found out he were still alive. However, it’s my parents you will need to convince, this is their house, and they’ll be home in a couple days. I promise you, when Dad finds out what’s going on, his first thought will be to call the Aurors and call in Healers, so its not just me doing the work.”
With things calming down, at some point, Linsey suggested calling a delivery service and ordering dinner, since her original dinner created from the floury disaster Serghei attempted, got scattered across the kitchen in a spray of hostile magic, and she really didn’t feel like trying to cook again as it was getting late. The Ravenclaw alum called an Italian place she and Dad liked, placed the order, and handed money to Ella to cover the order and a generous tip.
Standing up, Linsey shuffled off to her room with Blannat trailing behind her and she closed the door behind them. She drew a deep breath, and her shoulders slumped as she felt all her strength drain out of her. Blannat looked up at her and whimpered softly before he jumped up on the bed. Slipping off her shoes, Linsey stretched out on the bed and reached out to cuddle with her dog. “I – I – I almost lost him, Blannat,” she said in a half-whisper, as the sobs wrenched themselves out of her, now she didn’t have to be brave for Ella’s sake. “Serghei almost died …” She buried her face in the fur of her faithful wolfhound, and the tears poured out of her.
OOC: Taken by Serghei Emil Antonov "All my life I never really knew me till today Now I know why, I'm just another step along the way
I lie awake for hours, I'm just waiting for the sun When the journey we are making has begun Don't deny the feeling that is stealing through your heart Every happy ending needs to have a start
All my life I never really knew me till today Now I know why, I'm just another step along the way "
