Post 2: Alchemy Items

User ImagePhilosopher's Cache

Found: Bifrost for 50,000g, Marketplace, Dumpster Dive
Made from: Philosopher's Cache Formula
Uses: Used for Alchemy and GoFusion(sort of). This item can be opened to obtain the colored caches or a Heart Charm. You will obtain one of those items at random. The colored caches can be opened to obtain components for alchemy. The heart charm can be used in GoFusion to craft items.
What's Inside: Any one of the 10 Colored Caches (see below) or a Heart Charm.

Colored Caches:

User ImagePhilosopher's Cache: Amethyst
User ImagePhilosopher's Cache: Aquamarine
User ImagePhilosopher's Cache: Diamond
User ImagePhilosopher's Cache: Emerald
User ImagePhilosopher's Cache: Garnet
User ImagePhilosopher's Cache: Gold
User ImagePhilosopher's Cache: Platinum
User ImagePhilosopher's Cache: Ruby
User ImagePhilosopher's Cache: Sapphire
User ImagePhilosopher's Cache: Topaz

Found: Philosopher's Cache, Marketplace, Dumpster Dive
Obtained from: A colored cache is generated at random when a Philosopher's Cache is opened.
Uses: Used for Alchemy. This item can be opened to obtain alchemy components. Each type of colored cache contains a specific set of components. You may select the component that you want (not random).
What's Inside: Various alchemy components. Please refer [What's in each cache] for the specific items. (Too large to list here.)

Quick Explanation of Alchemy
Alchemy is a Gaia feature that allows users to create items. It sounds complicated, but is easy once you get the hang of it. Beware: the main reasons for doing alchemy are to make Backwings and to use up the free caches found in Dumpster Dive. You will likely lose gold unless you plan ahead. You must destroy items/components/gold to make an item.

Alchemists craft items by going to The Bifrost. Many of the basic alchemy components can be found in that shop (but not all!). Once there, they go to Craft Formulas.
Crafting an item requires three things: A formula, all the components required by the formula and the proper level in alchemy. You can gain levels in alchemy as you craft formulas.
For more detailed explanations, please refer to the guides below.

Charms

User ImageDiamond Charm
User ImageHeart Charm
User ImageStar Charm

Found:
Daily Chance: Diamond, heart and star charms can be granted at random from the Daily Chance. (Those red or yellow carts found on the main landing pages.) Hearts are more common, followed by stars and then diamonds.
Cash Shop: Various items have the ability to grant diamond, heart and star charms. Read item descriptions carefully. They've often got the words, "charm pack" in the title. Charms also might drop from various Chance Items (especially those that also generate gold).
Blue Magical Giftboxes: Can grant heart charms [[[source]]]
Philosopher's Caches: Philosopher's Caches have the potential to drop heart charms.
Used for: Gofusion. Heart, Star and Diamond charms can be exchanged (fused) for various items in Gofusion.

Special Charms

User ImageUnique Charm

Found: This item is found during official Gaia events. A grant link will be provided. Click the link to obtain a charm. Keep your eyes peeled.
Used for: This is a special charm that some of the GoFusion items might require.

User Image
Wildcard

Found: From some Cash Shop items (mainly charm packs). Read the descriptions of the charm packs to see if they have the chance of granting wildcards.
Used for: Gofusion. The Wildcard can be used in place of any other charm.

User ImageSnowflake Charm

Found: This item is found during official Gaia events, mainly the winter holiday event, since 2014. Each event has had a unique way to obtain them. Snowflake Charms are soulbound.
Used for: This is a special charm that some of the GoFusion items might require.

Quick Explanation of GoFusion
A Gaia feature that allows users to create items using only charms. From the GoFusion page, charms can be exchanged (fused) for various items. It's like a shop that uses charms instead of gold.
What items can be created? Any item that's currently listed on the GoFusion page. All you need is the required amount of charms. (The list is susceptible to change. Gaia removes and adds items to the list.) The number of charms required varies and is listed for each item. Some items are exclusive to GoFusion; some are not.

Durem Reclamation Facility

Found: Durem Reclamation Facility, Daily Chance, Dumpster Dive, marketplace
Used For: Fish can be exchanged at the Fish Exchanged for rarer fish, aquarium fish and equippable items. Fish are used as a component in some Alchemy formulas.

--- will list names of fish in paragraph form, then link to the guide for further info. no images. Listing each fish vertically would be an unnecessary page stretch.

A Quick Explanation of Fish
This post refers to the fish that are found in the Game Items tab of the inventory. This does not refer to fish for your aquarium that are found in the Aquarium Items tab of the inventory.

Fish can be obtained in a variety of ways: Dumpster Diving, collecting Daily Chance and playing the Fishing game. The Fishing game is the first, and main, source of fish. When the Dumpster is empty, The Admin will sometimes grant fish *** check. Fish are sometimes granted through the Daily Chance. The rarer the fish, the less likely you are to encounter it in the Daily Chance.
Fish can also be obtained by exchanging more common fish for rarer fish. This is a quick explanation, so please refer to the guides for more info.

            Fish have multiple purposes:
Fish can be exchanged at The Ole Fishing Hole: Exchange Fish for a variety of fishy clothing items.
You can also use the Exchange Fish to trade in common fish for fish that are more rare. You will end up with less total fish, however this is a good option for those who have trouble catching the rarer fish.
The fish caught in this game can also be exchanged for aquarium fish. (Keep in mind that fish tagged [lite] do not drop gold in Booty Grab games.) This exchange is not worth it.
Fish are a component of some alchemy formulas. If you're not interested in Alchemy or exchanging your fish for items, Alchemists (and other fishermen) will love to buy your fish!

A Quick Explanation of Fishing
Fishing is a mini-game you can find under the games tab. There are three fishing spots to choose from, in increasing difficulty: Bass'ken Lake, Port of Gambino, Durem Reclamation Facility. In other words, start at Bass'ken lake and work your way up to catching the tougher fish at the other spots.

In Fishing, you reel in fish (or junk) by opposing the fish's movement with your mouse. You will need a fishing rod and some bait. Each game will cost one bait. Each game ends once you fill your bucket (catch 18 total fish and/or junk). You can buy fish and bait at The Ole Fishing Hole shop.

The three fishing spots have different species of fish that can be caught. Those fish are all listed in this post. Please refer to guides for further info.
You will also encounter "junk." These junk items are: cans, tires, boots and twigs (get links and actual names). For sake of space, I've listed the junk items in the next post.

You can do a variety of things with the fish and junk:

Junk - alchemy, paper hats, dresses and such.

Found: Collected in Towns/Towns 2, Dumpster Dive, Daily Chance, marketplace
Used For: Paper can be exchanged for various hat items at the Ruby's Rack: Exchange Trash. Paper is a component of some alchemy formulas.

A Quick Explanation of Paper
Currently, paper can be collected in Towns and Towns 2. The type of paper you find will depend on the time of day (Gaia Standard Time).

Paper has a couple uses: Alchemy and Paper Exchange
Paper is a component in some Alchemy formulas. However, there are many alchemists who don't want to spend time collecting paper. Here's where you come in. If you have zero interest in Alchemy, sell your paper either in the marketplace (5% tax) or to users in the Game Item Exchange Forum. Keep in mind that users who do transactions in exchange forums expect better prices than you'd find in the marketplace. Check both the marketplace and other selling/buying threads to see what you should price your paper at.

Before Alchemy, the main use for Paper was to exchange it at Ruby's Rack: Exchange Trash. You may exchange your paper for various paper hats. I'll link a guide below if you're interested in type of hat and amount of paper needed.
However, I do not recommend exchanging your paper for hats. Never use this exchange! In today's economy, the hats are cheap. Your paper is worth more as just paper. Want a paper hat? Buy it from the marketplace. (This could possibly change at a later time.... but I don't foresee this happening in the near future.)

A Quick Explanation of Towns
Towns 2 is an upgraded version of Towns, hence the name. Towns is slowly being phased out, with Towns 2 replacing it. They're a virtual space where you can make your avatar walk around, chat, place your home, among other things. I will focus only on the item collecting aspect. Links to both can be found on the World Landing Page.

You can collect the same types of paper, trash, bugs and flowers from both virtual spaces in the neighborhoods.
Towns: Load Towns. Click the Directory. A page pops up with many squares (neighborhoods). Click on a random square. Collect the items by clicking them with your mouse. Don't see any trash? Move to more remote neighborhoods.
Towns 2: Load Towns 2. Look for the Phone Icon in the bottom toolbar. Click "World Map" in the top left corner. While looking at the map, hover your cursor over the various landmarks. You can hunt for trash at Barton Housing, Gambino Housing, Durem Apartments and Aekea Housing.

Any bugs, paper, trash, and flowers and you click on will automatically be transported to your inventory.

Found: Collected in Towns/Towns 2, Dumpster Dive, Daily Chance, marketplace
Used For: Flowers can be exchanged for various bouquets at the Barton Flowershoppe: Exchange Flowers. Flowers are a component of some alchemy formulas.

A Quick Explanation of Flowers

Flowers can be found in Towns/Towns 2, Dumpster Dive, Daily Chance, and the marketplace. The main source of flowers is Towns/Towns 2. To gather flowers, walk around Towns/Towns 2 and click the flowers. They will automatically be transported to your inventory. Certain flowers appear at specific times of the day, please refer to the guides below for the times.

Flowers can be made into bouquets at the Barton Flowershoppe: Exchange Flowers. There are three sizes available depending on the amount of flowers you want to use per bouquet. You may also use ink to color the wrappings and ribbons. Please refer to the guides below for more information.

The Barton Flowershoppe Flower Exchange is the only way to make these bouquets. You may also buy bouquets in the marketplace that other users have made.

I do not recommend this as a source of gold. Bouquets are usually worth less gold than the individual flowers and ink. If you want to earn gold, sell your flowers and do not make bouquets. If you want a bouquet, check the marketplace. It might be cheaper for you to buy one from the marketplace than to make one.

Please see post 6 for an explanation of Towns/Towns 2.

A Quick Explanation of Bugs
Bugs can be found in Towns, Towns 2, Daily Chance, Dumpster Dive and the marketplace. Bugs fly across the screen in Towns and Towns 2. To catch a bug, you must be pretty close to it when you click it. Certain bugs appear at specific times of the day, please refer to the guides below for the times.
Please see xxx post for an explanation of Towns and Towns 2.

Bugs can be used to create ink at the Exchange. Please refer to the guides below for the necessary amounts.

Bugs are used in Alchemy, mainly to make the Philosopher's Cache and Alchemist's Case (as seen here).

Rare bugs are... rare. Rare bugs can be split directly into specific inks. However, rare bugs play an important role in alchemy. The Demonfly and Great Monarch are used in the Backwings Quest. If you're not interested in Alchemy, you'd most likely better off selling your bug to alchemists than splitting your bug into ink.

Ink
Nowadays, people most likely find their first ink in the Daily Chance, but the main method of gaining inks used to be squishing bugs. In fact, you can still squish bugs (exchange them for ink) at the Durem Depot: Exchange Bugs. You will only see ink if you have enough bugs to make said ink.

            Inks have multiple purposes:
Inks can be mixed to create other inks. See guides below. Visit Skin Tyte: Buy Tattoos.
Inks can be exchanged to create tattoos and body dyes. (Tattoos and Body Dyes are items that can be equipped and unequipped.) Visit Skin Tyte: Buy Tattoos.
Inks can be used to color the wrapping paper when making bouquets from flowers. There are 3 sizes of bouquets. The medium and large size have ribbons that can also be colored using ink. Buttercup Cafe: Exchange Flowers
Ink is an ingredient of some Alchemy formulas. Not to mention, components of Body Dyes that are needed for some Alchemy formulas. This is currently the main reason that drives the marketplace demand.

Post 10: Casino

User Image Token

Found: Bought from Prize & Joy for 1g each (can specify amount), Daily Chance, Marketplace. NOTE: Tokens sold in the marketplace usually cost more than store price. Not worth it.
Used For: Used to play Blackjack and Slots. You can win tickets by playing Blackjack and Slots.

User Image Ticket

Found: Daily Chance (rare-ish), marketplace, Slots, Blackjack, Tiles
Uses: Tickets can be exchanged for the items at Prize & Joy. Tickets are a component of some Alchemy formulas.

A Quick Explanation of Tokens
Gaia has two games that take place at the Gold Mountain Casino: Slots and Blackjack. (You can see the casino on the world map in Isle de Gambino.)

The Gaia Slots game can be found on games tab. Slots was Gaia's second game and first game to use tokens. It's like playing a slot machine. You use Tokens to play the game; you win Tickets. You can bet 1, 2 or 3 tokens per try. Your chances of winning are random. You'll likely lose lots of tokens in the process.
I didn't find a good guide so I'll add some extra info. You win tickets when you get two of a kind or three of a kind. To get two of a kind, the two images must be adjacent. And you get three of a kind when all three images match. You can double your potential reward by betting two Tokens per round and triple it by betting three Tokens per round.

The Gaia Blackjack game can be found on games tab. It follows the standard rules of Blackjack, plus some cheating. Check the guides below if you want to learn more about the game. You use Tokens to play the game; you win Tickets.

If you don't want to play Blackjack or Slots, then I'd recommend selling your tokens to others who want them. There are no other uses for Tokens.

A Quick Explanation of Tickets
The main use of tickets is to exchange them for items at the Prize & Joy. A secondary use is that some Alchemy formulas require tickets as components (namely Alchemist's Case and Philosopher's Cache).

Tickets are sometimes found in the Daily Chance. Tickets can be won by playing Slots, Blackjack and/or Tiles. Slots and Blackjack were explained above (under A Quick Explanation of Tokens). I'll explain Tiles below (this paragraph). Tickets can be bought in the marketplace. This is a much faster way to earn tickets, however, usually much more expensive. When in the marketplace, be sure to search by "unit price." This should allow you to find deals where you pay less per ticket bought. Keep in mind that increasing bundles of tickets usually cost more (convenience charge placed by users).

A cheap, slow way of earning tickets is to play Tiles. Tiles is free to play and can be found on the games tab. Tiles can be connected either by background or animal type. Each round you play requires more and more chains. You can earn tickets by finishing each round. Each new round will require you to levy your current winnings pool for the chance at more tickets. Play more and more rounds for a higher payout. If you cash out, you'll have to start all over. If you lose a round, you leave with 0 tickets and must restart from the beginning.

Post 11: Pinball

Pinball Power ups
Arm Floaties
Bag of Marbles
Fishing Net
Fool's Gold
Insurance Policy
Sticky Paddle
Stuffed Armadillo

Found: Pinball Game, marketplace, Daily Chance, sometimes Dumpster Dive
Original Source: Power ups can be bought in game when your ball enters the shop AND you have enough "pinball gold" to buy the power up.
Used for: There is no other use aside from assisting you in a game of Pinball. Each Power Up has a different ability. Please refer to the guides for further information.

Pinball Power Ups
The above power ups are technically only earned within game. However, it's possible to find them in the Daily Chance. They can also be bought and sold in the marketplace.

Each power up affects your game differently. Please refer to the guides below for more information. Power ups are not required, just helpful.

The actual "shop" is located in game. You can enter the shop by getting the ball to roll into it. "Shoping is an interesting aspect of pinball. Certain things you do will will earn you "Pinball Gold". Entering the shop will give you a power up based on how much Pinball gold you have. You can see how much you have by looking at the sign just outside the shop. Here is a (list) of what you can exchange:" [source]

Pinball power ups are only used in game. No other Gaia activity requires them. You can sell them on the marketplace if you don't want to play Pinball.

Quick Explanation of Pinball
Pinball can be found on the Games Landing Page. It's exactly what it sounds like: A game of pinball. Activities that can happen in game are based on the old Gaia storyline and site activities that existed at the time the game was created.

Pinball is free to play. You start with five balls. You try to rack up as many points as possible before you lose your last ball. You earn gold at the end of the game depending on how well you did. You earn a low amount of gold. This game is best played just for fun, not for earning gold. There are some items that can be earned depending on your final score: Bullseye Shirt, Armadillo Pinball, Steel Pinball Head, Gaia Pinball Machine.

Please refer to the guides below for further details and game strategies.

miscellaneous -- microchips and other such components that drop from daily chance. list those. but say if have an item in game tab and can't find it here, most likely in x guide.

Ashes, Burnt Filament, Chalk, Cutin, Emerald, Fluorescent Fibers, Gum Rubber, Irradiated Stone, Magnetic Chip, Microchip, Shy Duck, Spore, Superduperglue, Toggle, Weak Acid

The Daily Chance sometimes grants Alchemy components. All items listed in the paragraph above are all components used in Alchemy Formulas. Refer to the Post 2 on Alchemy for more info. You can search the guides to see which formulas require your component.
I'm listing components that I've found in the Daily Chance, not all components.
