Well, SONY has always been the most reliable, the most innovative, EXTREMELY large game library and faithful fanbase among other things.
I have always hated Microsoft and I am glad SONY chose Linux for their OS. Bill Gates is all about the money, besides, they lack in one territory that companies really need to be good in and that is Japan. Microsoft does so terrible in Japan.
Nintendo is what started me with the SNES, but, as time would tell they became alot more geared towards children (hence the look of the GameCube and it's controller) and the revolution is just straight up retarded (IMO).
Hmmm..... but this is the mind of a person who is VERY tired.... argh

I prefer Sony for the reasons that I am a fan of their electonics...
I still use a Sony Record player that my dad gave to me... It's nearly 30 years old and works like day one.
I also have yet to be let down by my digital camera, CD players, Car Audio Systems, televisions and DVD players, and of course, game consoles.
The only Sony product of mine that kicked it was my laptop... But I got it for $20 so I cannot complain...

...I use to be a huge Nintendo fan, but they let me down with the N64, and they failed me horribly with the Gamecube, and I met a particular few fanboys on Gaia that were so biased that they turned me against Nintendo. I enjoy Xbox products very much, but I just don't like Microsoft, Apple is better.
Sony just has the largest selection of top notch software on their systems...usually.

I like Sony because the PlayStation was the counsel that introduced me to gaming, but I am no means a fan boy. I am running Windows on this computer.

I don't, plain and simple. I'm an unbiased gamer, I believe SOny to be equal to Microsoft and Nintendo.

Well because Im so use to tha Playstation controller, Tha Xbox controller is ok but tha Gamecube controller feels weird to me, with all tha odd buttons on it. I always get tha Y and X buttons mixed up without looking at the controller where with tha Playstation one I can feel around on it without looking at it.

I don't like Sony. I like their beautiful products under the PlayStation name. I've been a gamer since the good ol' Atari 2600 days. I have, almost, every system since then. I'm not decieved by those who say Nintendo went for a children's fanbase. They just went for a colorful approach. The N64 was a fine competitor to the PSX. The Gamecube had a nice library of games. Games are games, not movies. If the game is fun, then it's awesome. I despise Microsoft, yet I have a bit of respect for some of the XBOX exclusive titles. I prefer the PlayStation brand because of it's vast library of games and it's perfect controller design(PS3 controller design excluded).

I'm a PlayStation fanwank. So sorry ;].
However I'd just like to say a small something about Microsoft and whatever they're planning for the future. With their 360, seemingly popular for the moment, until PS3 and Revolution come out, it is fair to say that most people bought whichever console first was released. I saw a short video, I forget the source [maybe on demand I'll find it x.x;], about Bill Gates and his plans to creatively embedd the 360 into his other electronics [computer/laptops, cell phones, Blueberries, whatever]. They had holographic things going on in there and claimed that eventually, Xbox will be able to have the technological requirements available so it can interact with the other peripheral. In other words, they're planning to mass merge everything they have to make kids be able to play video games and chat on MSN at the same time [OH NO!].
I won't elaborate, because it's not the right topic, but that's also one of the reasons why I stick with Sony products: Because eventually, some people will side with other companies for more features, and if PS3 isn't released anytime soon, their own company might be in danger. I want to help them save themselves, and therefore I buy their games. Bill Gates doesn't need money from gamers anyway, he can use his computer-built stack-of-money from his empire.
In any case, I think PS consoles are sleek too. ;]

If I had to give a reason I'd say it's because the games are better, more of a selection. While X-BOX appeals to a more mature crowd and Game Cube appeals to the younger crowd, playstation did the best job in appealing to both.

Better Game developers most the time... Plus I like there controllers... Xbox may of been the most powerful but japan didnt like it and most games that were good didnt get on there... and Gamecube is a console with less power but some great hits...
