Strawberry Pandalaura

Kyouya Ootori had received an email from one of his classmates earlier in the day -- a request to see him during one of the slow hosting periods, to discuss the Host Club's tea contract.

He noted that the girl's family name matched the name of the tea company -- Ah, Miss Pandalaura ... she who I've met at least four separate times now, so no more rebooting! Opening up the black notebook, he went over his dossier on the second-year. Transfer student from America. Eldest daughter, from a large family. Somewhat athletic and known to speak her mind.

Reasonably satisfied, he tucked his notebook under his arm, and settled in at his "desk" to await her arrival. The soft chatter of the hosting session drifted around him, and he found himself absently taking notes on each of the hosts' sessions as he waited.

[ She who is going to smack an Ootori. Lol. ]

Strawberry turned at the top of the large, ornate staircase as she twisted her hair into a large twist of curls over her left shoulder. She had had Volleyball practice that morning and dress rehearsal after school, so the blonde was rather late for her meeting with the host club's Vice President. Normally she'd be able to get by with missing, she was simply one of the makeup artists; but it was dress rehearsal and there was no way around it.
The heiress slipped through the large double doors, not surprised when a flurry of petals rained down on her. She was getting use to sweet flower prices and didn't bother brushing them from her hair as she peered around the host room.

"Ah Kyouya-san." She smiled brightly, walking up to the table he was siting at. "Sorry I'm late, dress rehearsal." Strawberry explained, as if Kyouya knew she had come straight from the drama room-of course he knew, everyone knows that Kyouya's psychic and curtseyed before taking the seat across from him. She was starting to remember the bowing custom; it was just taking time.

Kyouya stood in return, and bowed politely, then held the chair next to his for her. "Miss Strawberry, isn't it? A pleasure. I hope the drama club has been an entertaining diversion for you today?" he inquired politely. "Dress rehearsal? I take it the show will be in a few days then." As if he didn't have the school event calendar memorized.

"Please, have a seat and relax a moment. We can get down to business whenever you're comfortable." He offered to pour her tea -- of course, it would be nothing new to her, as her family supplied the club, but at least she'd be assured of its quality.

"Thank you." The heiress smiled, hanging her panda bag on the back of her seat. "Oh yes, the makeup is especially unique for this play. A Midsummer Nights Dream. As you can imagine, lots and lots of glitter for the fairies." Strawberry laughed.

She was surprised to hear him call her by her nickname. To those who knew her name already she was is Miss Pandalaura or Alana. And those who didn't, she was Strawberry. Not that she minded either way, it was just interesting.

"Another week actually, but there's a Volleyball game in a few days. Coach has been running us pretty hard all week to prepare for it." Green eyes landed on the tea set and she smiled. "That would be lovely, thank you." She said gratefully, glad to not have to delve right into the business. She was already nervous enough with the whole thing as is. But her father insisted she needed the experience, and the Host Club was the perfect account for her to learn with since the clients were her age. Of course, Strawberry had to admit he had a point. But it did nothing to quell her nerves.

"I've had the pleasure of meeting a couple of the hosts and both hostesses. I have to say, the Host Club is a remarkable place." Strawberry commented with a smile, watching as he poured the tea like a pro. Which was only to be expected given his position.

"Tea it is, then." He gave her a quiet nod, and slid the cup over to her. It was Earl Grey; they always had it to hand, and it was one of the teas that went well with the dried-cherry-spiked shortbread they had fresh-baked today. A small plate of those sat on his "desk" as well, and he offered her some.

"I'm glad to hear that," he said lightly. "We do endeavor to make it so; if we didn't, we'd lose out on the pleasure of visiting with all of our lovely guests, after all." But he quirked her a bit of a smile, with mild curiosity lurking underneath. "And what have you enjoyed the most so far, may I ask? It always intrigues me to know what people find most interesting."

Strawberry smiled and thanked him for the tea before stirring in her desired amount of sugar; which was above the average, as she considered his question.

"I've had the pleasure of meeting more guests than hosts, which is just as lovely as the later; but it's also been an eye-awakening experience." The blonde explained slowly; choosing her words carefully. "People, humans, in general have a pre cognitive notion of how the rich are; how they act. And on some level, this stereotype has settled into everyone of our minds. In some cases, this stereotype hits home with quite of few financially gifted students; but when I came to the host club, and met your guests, I was pleasantly surprised to meet such kind, and sincere guests." By now the blonde was lost in her own words green eyes taking in the dark color of her tea and a smile tugging up her full lips.

"I've experienced the greedy, entitled, negative side of wealth; and will honestly admit to expecting the same from Ourans students-I suppose I'm a bit cynical that way." Strawberry laughed softly. "And when I heard about the host club, I had decided-immediately-that I wanted nothing to do with a place full of rich kids that sat around and entertained each other with false notions or superiority. And then my father asked me to do him a favour, and I discovered that all of my assumptions had been wrong." Green rose to meet gray and the blonde laughed, her lips pulling up into a half smirk-half smile. "I've never been happier to be wrong in my life. There's a heart beat to this club; a life, and not only do the hosts and hostesses keep it going; but so do the guests. It's a privilege to know that I've been honored to have a small part in it."

Strawberry blushed and laughed softly, taking a quick sip of her tea. She needed to address her lack of brain to mouth filter. "I apologize, I hope that answered your question."

"All that from just a few short visits? I'm very flattered, and I'll be sure to let the other hosts know -- especially Tamaki. He'll be pleased to hear that our little club has found its way into the heart of another lovely young lady." Kyouya reached for the notebook that still lay open at his right hand, and wrote himself a small reminder to do so. "We are extremely blessed to have such wonderful people as part of our club, on all counts."

He gave her a small, wry smile. "Yes, it did answer my question. Very thoroughly, and I appreciate that." Closing the notebook, he gave her his undivided, professional attention. "Back to the purpose of this little meeting: what may I do for you today, Strawberry-san?"

Strawberry blushed at the "lovely young lady" comment. It was always easier for her to compliment others than to receive a compliment.

"I look forward to meeting Tamaki-san." She said with a smile. "I hear he has quite a large personality." That wasn't all she had heard about the famous host club king; but it was the only thing that mattered. After having her assumptions trampled once, the blonde had decided to gather all the information she could before forming anymore opinions. "It's my pleasure." Strawberry bowed her head slightly. "I believe when you answer someones question, you should be as thorough as possible. Not just because it is courteous but it also lessens the chance of a misunderstanding."

The heiress took another so of her overly sweet tea before looking up, rather alarmed. Right, business!

"Right, of course." She laughed softly, opening a manilla folder and handing a couple sheets of paper to the host. "There's been a few changes to packaging along with discounts that the host club qualifies for." The blonde explained, slipping on a pair of red rimmed glasses as she skimmed over the papers. "We are now packaging the tea in 1lb bags, with a fifty cent because Strawberry's writer is retarded in the way of Japanese currency increase on the price. But with this change you also get a 15% discount on shipping, because of the amount on each of your orders. Here is the revised contract." Strawberry handed him another set of papers. "Read it and let me know if there are any issues you would like to address." Okay, that went well so far. She was very glad she managed a steady voice through her explanations. Nervous jitters danced through her veins. Calm down. You can do this.

There was, perhaps, a touch of a smile at her comment regarding Tamaki. "He truly does bring the room to life," Kyouya said, with perfect sincerity. "Without him, the club wouldn't exist, on many levels."

He drew the papers towards him and flicked through them, dark eyes scanning rapidly for the numbers. Soft calculations flickered past as he mentally re-did the math, comparing his results to hers. "Ah, I see." He flipped over to the shipping costs, and his eyebrows drew down slightly. "Well, yes, a fifteen-percent savings is quite hefty if one is using overnight shipping." He glanced back up, tapping his pen lightly on the table. "But our standard is ground; tea doesn't stale that quickly."

The savings were still there, as she'd noted, though far less substantial than the first round of math would make them out to be. "I find this acceptable, but we won't be using overnight rates unless we have some sort of ... tea emergency." Dry amusement colored his tone. A few swift marks of his pen corrected the details, and he slid it back to her.

"You must be really good friends." Strawberry commented softly, taking a sip of her tea. She got the feeling that Kyouya didn't sincerely compliment easily and wasn't one to suffer fools. But she could see the sincerity in his grey eyes as he spoke of Tamaki. She chose not to comment on it however, it felt like a private thing she had witnessed.

The blonde flushed as he spoke, made a few changes and slid the contract back to her. She felt utterly incompetent. She should have looked it over herself instead of trusting the base opinion of the desk clerks. This was her contract after all. But oh well, lesson learned.

"I apologize for the mix up, that should have been quite obvious." Strawberry replied, eyes flicking over the changes. Everything looked in order. "Then I just need your signature." She smiled, producing a pen from her pandy bag and signing her name at the bottom with slant, curvy movements before sliding it back to the host.

Kyouya let slip a soft, half-ironic "heh" at her comment about his friendship with Tamaki -- perhaps an indirect affirmation. If he noticed the blush, he said nothing -- just evaluated the reaction to divine why it had happened. It seemed from her expression that it was simply something that had slipped by, not something she'd been trying to pull on him. Fair enough.

He made a point of looking over the contract and her signature one last time before signing his own, in crisp bold strokes. "All set, and I look forward to the next shipment," he said lightly, handing it back to her.

Green eyes traced over the page once more before she slipped it into her bag along with her pen. She lifted her cup and took another sip as she discreetly, or as discreetly as the blonde could manage because apparently she was as subtle as a brick to the face, and a plethora of questions popped into her head, one by one until the new ones began crowding the former.
But she quietly swiped her tea and pushed them aside. It would be rude to bombard Kyouya with his curiosity. The blonde was idly thankful she wasn't a cat as her lips moved without conscious input.

"Kyouya-san, why did you become a host?" She asked curiously. As soon as she realized her word vomit Strawberry blushed, and attempted to reign in the damage. "If I'm not being too forward of course."

Kyouya waved off the potential forwardness with a small, dismissive wave, as if he were well-accustomed to that particular inquiry. "No, not at all. It's not an uncommon question." He did seem to take a small moment to mull over how to phrase his answer, though.

"It's a useful thing to do," he said lightly. "I'm well-acquainted with most of the student body because of my position, and it's an excellent managerial exercise. I think the experience will serve me quite well in the future." He gave her one of those coolly-polite smiles. "I understand you're on the volleyball team as well as the drama club? How has the season been going for you so far?"

Strawberry couldn't help the smile that tugged at her lips at his response. The reasons he gave seemed quite selfish, but for some reason the blonde didn't believe that was all there was. It was probably just her blind optimism. She could be optimistic to a fault sometimes.

"That is correct." Strawberry nodded, carefully setting her cup on it's saucer. "The season has been pretty good, we're headed to regional. Coach has, more than hinted, that there will be Olympic scouts at the competition so we've been working pretty hard." She explained.

Strawberry wasn't to concerned about scouts, she already knew where her future was going and she was happy with it's direction. But it was exciting to think about.

"The play has a had a few set backs with the props, but, the last I heard, it was being taken care of. I usually just focus on my job of covering everyone is thick makeup, and glitter in this case." The blonde laughed. "Are you planning to attend the production?"

"I wish you luck at Regionals, then," he said lightly. "I'm sure you'll do your best, regardless of who's watching." A conventional response, to be sure, but Kyouya had never had a great interest in sports, far preferring intellectual pursuits at most times. He leaned over to refill her teacup, using it as an excuse to mull over her question.

"Perhaps I might, if I have sufficient free time." He shrugged slightly. "I have to admit, the Drama Club has been doing a fine job of keeping the title of the play concealed, though, so I'm not entirely sure that it would be something I'd find interesting." Or at least interesting enough to spend three hours of my time on. With glitter involved, he suspected it was likely not something he'd bother with, unless it was one of the classics; perhaps A Midsummer Night's Dream.
