Cara smiled down at Caty and said, "How about something really soft for the kitties in a nice cream color?" She glanced back at Siobhan and said, "They are so cute at that way... Anyways, my entire family and everyone on my husband's side, except my mother-in-law I believe, were sorted into Slytherin. It really isn't that odd, my husband's hatred for the wizarding world. If I had the same situation as him, perhaps I would have turned the same. Maybe I shouldn't have lied about being a witch until we got married... he just wanted to live a quiet Muggle life. But he was my first true love, you can't just let that go, now can you?"

Her eyes narrowed challenging the shopkeeper to speak ill about her husband. "He has done quite well in the Muggle world, though. He's a doctor. He does surgery to fix deformities or fix human imperfections. It is really quite wonderful what he can do."

She frowned and said, "Maybe my parents sent the owl to David, my son, for spite of my husband. After all, they did say I could have done better. But we are from two pureblood families... not that from what I have seen that bloodlines matter that much except to extremest."

Caty flapped her arms a bit when she was lifted to the counter. "It was a nice nap. I got lotsa sleep!" She was handed a book from her auntie, then she immediately opened it. She began turning pages, then looked up at the customer. She wanted something cream colored? Cream was like milk, right? Milk was... white. Why was this lady being so fancy? "So... White? Cream is white, silly duck!" She giggled, then flipped through the book some more. Of course, to the white section.

Nell had heard about the re-opening of the magical menagerie and had seen over the holidays that it had a help wanted ad placed in the front. Having just completed her owls she felt she was ready for the responsibility of a job that was closely related to where she wanted to work when she graduated. She didn't very well think a magizoologist would take her underneath her wing just because she had a decade or so experience working at her parent's business! So, taking deep breaths, she walked inside the building and had to steel herself from running all around cooing, petting, and squealing at all the adorable animals parading around. Gah! She hadn't even filled out an application and she was already being tested! Walking to the front she saw two women and a young girl talking and felt very awkward about the whole thing, especially since the application was apparently on the desk next to them. Trying to be inconspicuous Nell meandered around the cages and feed before creeping to the desk and slowly, ever so slowly grabbing a paper. However she practically gave away her position giving a whoop of joy and blushing when she realized it. She pulled a short old quill from her bag and filled out the paper before looking in between the women again and feeling awkward. "Erm..excuse me, whom should I give this application to?" she asked shyly.
Name: Chantale Miriam Ellis
Age: 16
Position Applying For: Sales Associate // Animal Care Specialist // Cleaning Crew
OWL and NEWT scores: CoMC~O
Charms~ O
Previous Work Experience: I've worked as a waitress, a maid, and even a Desk worker at my parents hotel, the Loch and Key in Lochlomond, Scotland
Why Are You Applying For This Position: Well, I'm graduating in about two years and I would really love to become a magizoologist. However to even get into the field you have to have some form of experience, which regretfully I have none. I would really love to have this job to get my experience and of course spend my time surrounded by fuzzy adorable cuddly creatures!

Siobhan felt somewhat uncomfortable with how open the woman was being about her family life... it was sort of odd, hearing someone so easily talk about their husband being a Squib, hating magic... it simply wasn't something people tended to speak of in polite company. But, perhaps her customer needed a moment to vent? It was more than possible. So, the Irishwoman kept her mouth shut, listening, hoping that Caty wouldn't be going home and saying things that would get her in trouble with her fathers. The fact that the woman had lied about being magical in order to get her husband to marry her was more than a bit disturbing, but Siobhan would never say so. She tapped her fingers rhythmically on the counter, a faint smile on her face. "I suppose it would be awkward, to be born into a family with magic and have none of your own. But it's good that he has found a way to succeed. I've heard of the job you're speaking of... it's a type of doctor, right? That's quite impressive." Siobhan felt as though she were walking a tightrope, trying very hard not to speak on any of the less than positive comments the woman made; the idea of a person 'fixing human imperfection' was somewhat upsetting to Siobhan, but she wouldn't say so. It would be rude, and treading into territory she was quite uncomfortable with.

When Caty told the woman that 'cream was white,' she shook her head, smiling a little, the expression somewhat strained, but indulgent.
"Cream is white, sweet, but it's not white like, say, you're brother's hair. It's more like..." Siobhan paused, her expression thoughtful. She noticed one of the cats in its cage whose fur was just the right shade. She picked Caty up, offering a small smile to her customer, and carried the little girl over to the cat. "See its fur, sweet, how it's not the same color as Rhys' hair? It's still white but it's a little yellow, too? That's cream." Siobhan supposed that was Caty's lesson for the day, a lesson in a slight difference of color... and how particular some people could be. Siobhan herself was quite particular with colors.

As Siobhan walked back tot the front desk with her niece, she noticed the not even remotely subtle young woman who'd just entered, and gave her a somewhat amused look. She took the catalog from Caty, and, spotting a lovely cream-colored bed, pointed it out.
"Like this, Caty, why don't you show this to her and see if she likes it?" She then turned to the young woman, offering her customer another smile, as if to tell her, 'I'm still with you, let me just talk to her real quick.' She gave the young woman a smile then, and offered her hand. "That would be to me, my dear. I'm Siobhan Lowery, the new owner. Let me finish up with this customer and I'll look over it for you, alright?" The possibility of having help, even just over the Summer, was one that had Siobhan feeling rather relieved. She had a feeling the shop would be getting very, very busy soon, and wanted nothing more than to know that the work would be spread among herself and even one other person. Caty was sweet, and at times very helpful; so was her own daughter, Prudence. But, they were still children, and something she had to watch just as carefully as the shop itself. An assistant would be a marvelous thing to have.

                                                          ═════════════════════════════════
'That's the gem of all Ireland's crown.

Cara smiled as Siobhan struggled with an answer to what Cara said. Cara was the type she did not care to surprise people or challenge people, though she could tell the shopkeeper was uncomfortable by her confession she had lied her way into her marriage. The way Cara had seen it, plenty of witches and wizards lied about their magic before marrying a Muggle was lying to a Squib any different? "Yes," Cara said with a smile, "My husband is quite a doctor and artist. I admire him quite a bit for it."

Noticing the new girl coming in and taking an application, Cara squatted down and said, "Caty, was it? Why don't we see what bed you picked out for my husband's kitties?" She would ask the shopkeeper about pick-up or shipping later.

Nell's shy grinned brightened as she took the woman's hand for a shake. "I'm Chantale Ellis, only I prefer just Nell. I'll erm...be over by the puppies then!" She had been trying not to seem rude but they were calling out to her with their soft barks and whimpers and whines! The Scot rushed over to them petting and cooing at each and every puppy individually giggling at their wagging tails and rough sloppy kisses. Nell wondered if Soot, Harriet and Snow would mind another playmate at school...

Caty blinked in confusion at the difference between white and cream. So... not white.... but almost white? Grown ups were weird. She missed her perch on the counter, but didn't mind being on her feet again. A very nice looking girl walked in, talking about jobs and stuff. Caty gave a small wave at her, then looked back at the fancy lady. "Yes, yes. My name is Caty. I have a couple that I like, and one that Auntie likes." She showed the one that her aunt had picked, then a couple more, ranging from tan to cream, to white. At least she had tried! The beds were all fluffy and soft, which is what Caty wanted in a bed, so obviously the cats would like it, right?

Cara smiled as she looked at the selection, appreciating the plush selection and not caring about the large price tags on any of them. Both her and her husband came from rich families though they were not the named heirs they still got some inheritance-her more than her husband- and her husband was quite well off with his Muggle job. Cara may be a shrewd and cunning person, and she of course valued her own immediate far over family, always did like children to quite a degree. They had a language of their own and saw the world in such a magical way, it appealed to her artistic nature.

She pointed to a plush bed in light cream, with gold stitching, that Caty had chosen after Siobhan's color help and said, "Oh, I like this one. It would look lovely in the bedroom. That is where our cats stay most often when not in my husband's office or exploring the house. I think they will quite like one each. Do you like cats? Our kitties names are Tristan and Tara, though they are getting up there in age, but we take good care of them and they get around quite well considering."

She paused waiting for Siobhan to ask about the need for shipping or picking up the order. If they were going to ship by owl she of course would pick up the order herself. Besides, it was good to be out in the wizarding world not on business.

Luke entered the shop, his green eyes already looking around the shop. He had a bit of luck, at least a chance to get out of the house, since his baby brother wouldn't leave him alone otherwise. He loved Balder, but sometimes the kid got a bit annoying. Had he been as bad, or worse when he was younger? He didn't know, other than when he first moved in with the Borsons he had gotten into a lot of trouble. At least he was somewhat better since he had gotten older, and his uncle hadn't been seen around much yet. That was a good thing. Sighing, he noticed the crowd in the shop and blinked. Well then, it was busy today. Well, that at least wasn't that bad, to tell the truth. Probably meant that the shop had a good selection. He waited calmly, wondering when he would get noticed by the proprietor. He wanted a pet, but wasn't sure what he was going to get yet. Huh, spend an entire lifetime without one, and he suddenly gets the urge to have one. Well, that was life, right?

Siobhan smiled at the young lady, somewhat amused. She remembered being that girl, the child who loved animals and thought working with them would be the best job in the world. Many didn't realize how much of a responsibility it was, but a few could be taught, and their love would never falter, in spite of what hard work it was. Siobhan couldn't say for sure which path this girl would follow, but she had a good feeling about her.

Satisfied that Nell was preoccupied with the puppies, she returned to her customer, smiling widely as she looked to see the one she had selected.
"Oh, that's quite lovely. You know, you can get them embroidered as well, if you'd like a little extra flair. I've never quite understood doing so, since animals, particularly cats, rarely seem inclined to keep to their own bed, but it can be a nice touch." Siobhan looked at the price on the catalog and pulled out a ledger, one she used for such transactions. She filled out the form, careful to ensure that the numbers matched up properly and everything was filled out properly. This particular catalog was specifically designed for the purpose of being used in shops like hers, so the additional charge she would add on top of the provider's cost was already included in the listed price. It certainly made things less awkward. She'd had a bit of trouble with customers who hadn't understood her reason for adding five Galleons to a listed price of ten when she'd used a general catalog. Some people didn't take too kindly to being told that, in order for Siobhan to profit from the sale, she had to add to the price listed since she had to order the item herself.

She looked up towards the woman, smiling.
"For the beds as shown, it'll be a total of thirty Galleons. With embroidery, it's five sickles to ten letters, with the cost of any additional letters rounded up. If you'd like to get the embroidery, you can fill out the section for that to ensure that the names are spelled correctly." Siobhan rotated the ledger so that it was facing Cara, pointing out the column for that information, and placed the quill atop the book so that she wouldn't feel as though Siobhan were trying to force her into it. Honestly, Siobhan just got the feeling that she was the sort of woman who would like such a thing, if for no other reason than to please her husband. In spite of whatever mess they had in their past, she was obviously fond of him. Siobhan thought that she must love him, although it was often hard to tell with women from noble families.

As she awaited a response, a young man entered, and Siobhan offered a small wave. She'd definitely need to wrap this up, then. The store was getting crowded. Perhaps, after she finished with her current customer, she could use the young man to sort of field test Miss Ellis. She would handle the technical aspect of the transaction, and the actual transaction itself, but Nell could certainly help the young man, with Siobhan's guidance. If the girl did well, she'd hire her on the spot. No better way to see if a person would make a good employee than to put them on the spot and force them to think on their feet, after all.
"Miss Ellis, do you think you could help the young man who just came in while I finish this? I'm sure you're more than capable of helping out for a moment or two." Siobhan waited, watching carefully, curious how the young woman would handle such a responsibility being thrust upon her.

                                                          ═════════════════════════════════

"They seem to have their set perches," Cara said with a shrug. "You would have to speak to my husband, Sinclair, to truly understand them. He's had them since kittens and they seem to have their own way of communicating. He's a cat person through and through..."

She chuckled and glanced at the embroidered option-it was more expensive and added a nice touch so of course she liked it-and her husband did appreciate when his favorite pets were spoiled. Cara may spoil the cats but she was still suspicious they had a way of tattling to her husband whenever she used magic around the house when he wasn't around. Cara smiled cunningly and said, "We'll merely outsmart the cats then. They're names both start with Ts so we'll do initials. It is a classy touch. T.L. for Tristan League and T.L. for Tara League. The embroidery should be in gold." The last name given-League-was one of the few names known for its purity or attempts at keeping purity without extremes, though there had been nothing incriminating ever said about the family, like many families it was bound to have its secrets-such as a squib. Cara reached into her purse and said, "How much will that be? And how is delivery or pick-up. Of course an owl would be unacceptable being sent to our home so I can pick it up myself it need be. It would give my son a good opportunity to be among the wizarding world again as well. He'll be as confounded by everything as most muggleborns if I'm not careful."

She smiled, "Of course, I had my turn to be out of place when I took Muggle studies. Dated a half-blood for the first semester so I wouldn't fall behind. Paid off I would say, I got an E in my Muggle Studies OWL and NEWT. I suppose my extra studying after helped some too, but none the less..." She ended with a smile and was holding out thirty-one Galleons with a flawless smile. She obviously seemed to have very little moral qualms about using others to reach her own ends-she had been well sorted into Slytherin. She did have the traits of loyalty to her own and ambition but she wasn't afraid to sacrifice other's feelings to get what she wanted.

Nell startled out of her reverie of sneaking at least three puppies by her mother by shop owner asking if she could help the young boy who just came in. With a grin and nod she went over to him and wondered which house he was in since she didn't seem to recognize him from her own. "Hi and welcome to the Magical Menagerie! My name's Nell, how can I help you today?" She felt as though she was laying it on a bit thick but considering it was a trial basis and that she worked for a tourist spot for half her life she supposed it was an accustomed gesture. Even still, Nell hoped the boy thought she was trying too hard to be nice while simultaneously wondering if this kind of thing came with instructions.

Caty watched her auntie and the fancy lady talk a bit, working out details and such. When it was mentioned that owls couldn't go to her house, the toddler gave a curious look to the woman. Why couldn't an owl go to her house? Did she live really, really far away? That had to be it, she thought, for the poor owls' wings would get tired! She walked over to the owls, then looked back at the woman. "Maybe if a owl is too widdle, you should get a hawk! Or a eagle! OOH! Or a fee-nix!" She giggled and clapped her hands, a bright smile on her face. Of course, she was proud of having solved the crisis. Why her husband didn't like magic was beyond her, as Caty thought it was the coolest thing EVER.

Caty looked over curiously when she saw a boy enter. He looked nice enough! The girl who was playing with the puppies was told to handle him, but the toddler was unsure why. Maybe she was new! Oooh! How fun! A brand new friend to make! She grinned brightly, then walked back to her aunt's side, standing on tiptoe to try and peek at what they were doing.

'Now says, says I, to a passerby,

Siobhan, satisfied that Nell could help the boy while she finished with Mrs. League, turned back to the task at hand. The name sparked a sense of recognition in Siobhan, but she didn't know much about them, other than that they were one of the older, wealthy pureblood families. Rather in the same vein as Siobhan, actually, although her own family was not quite so wealthy. Well off, certainly, but not rich. She smiled at Mrs. League's plot to outsmart the cats. Siobhan was fairly certain that the cats would respond to their beds both being labelled with TL would result in their refusing to sleep on either of them. But, she didn't say so. Perhaps her husband had enough control over them, or they were endeared enough to him, that they would listen when he told them they were their beds. "I'm sure they'll love them. These beds are quite comfortable. I bought a similar one for my husband's dog long ago. It was so soft, I considered using it as a pillow and giving the ones on my bed to the dog." Siobhan thought she might still have that dog bed somewhere, actually, in storage for if she ever decided to get another pet. It hadn't been embroidered, since they'd only had the one dog at the time, so it was more than possible.

Siobhan didn't speak on Mrs. League's comment on her son behaving like a muggleborn, nor on her own experience with taking Muggle Studies. The woman was right on the edge of propriety with them, and honestly sounded like an old grandmother who didn't realize she was racist because that's just how people spoke about other races when she was a child. So, Siobhan just smiled, nodding, skipping past all that and going to the issue of shipping.
"Typically, you would fill out the information on your address here," Siobhan indicated the appropriate field on the ledger, "and I would, in turn, fill in that information when I complete the order form. But, if you'd prefer, I can instead have them shipped here. It would be here in a week or two... I've never had an order arrive later than that, so if you don't want to worry about my owling you to let you know they've arrived, you can just come in in three or so weeks." It was less than perfect, but if Mrs. League was opposed to the package being shipped by owl, it made sense that she wouldn't want one sent to her to inform her the package had arrived, either. Siobhan opened the register to deposit the Galleons, smiling gently, her expression curious and expectant.

When Caty asked if they should send something other than an owl, Siobhan shook her head, chuckling.
"Caty, dear, I believe Mrs. League doesn't want to upset the cats with the presence of a bird. Not that she is worried an owl won't be strong enough to carry the beds." She ruffled her niece's hair, amused. The child's mind worked very strangely sometimes.

                                                          ═════════════════════════════════
'That's the gem of all Ireland's crown.
Sweet Rosie McCann, from the banks of the Bann,

Cara Jane League

Wearing: Striking as Always, this time in Red and Black

"Would you be able to telephone us when the order was ready? We live in the neighborhood of Belgravia in London. You could also send a letter by Muggle post," Cara said, listing one of the more expensive neighborhoods in the center of London. It was mostly a Muggle area, very much likely chosen by her husband.

"Maybe I can even convince my husband to come when I pick up the order. He hasn't been to Diagon Alley since his teenage years. Of course knowing him we'll end up with a kitten," Cara said shaking her head. She at least spoke very affectionately towards her husband. "And I am glad to hear the beds are softer than most pillows back when we first married I used to get kicked out of bed by the cats or find one of the cats on my face or stomach in the morning. Sinclair, my husband, would just laugh. He said it was one of the reasons he kept me around... the cats liked me."

She wrinkled her nose, "Of course that is ridiculous, I was a far better catch than the girl he was seeing when I met him again after my Hogwarts years. I support him in all he does and would do anything for Sinclair, I doubt she could say the same. Besides she had to take allergy shots to deal with his cats."

Smiling and growing more serious she said, "Anyways, it would help if you could phone or send a muggle post that the order is in, but I understand if you are unable. I am willing to pay more of course if you do, since it would make my life much easier."
