Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry

About the School

Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is a British wizarding boarding school teaching the magical arts, located in Scotland inside Hogwarts Castle. The castle is in the mountains near a loch. The precise location of the school can never be uncovered because it has been rendered Unplottable. Similarly, most wizarding schools locations are protected in order to prevent their ways of teaching being revealed, as well as protect the students and schools themselves from any harm.
Established around the 9th or 10th century, Hogwarts is considered to be one of the finest magical institutions in the wizarding world, though other notable schools include Beauxbatons Academy of Magic and the Durmstrang Institute. Children with magical abilities may be enrolled at birth, and acceptance is confirmed by owl post at age eleven.

The School Motto is "Never tickle a sleeping dragon"

The Four Houses

Gryffindor - One of the four Houses of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, founded by Godric Gryffindor. Its emblematic animal is the lion, and its colours are red and gold.
Traits associated with this house are: Bravery, Nerve, Chivalry, Courage, Daring

Slytherin - One of the four Houses at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and is traditionally home to students who exhibit such traits as cunning, resourcefulness, and ambition. Its emblematic animal is the snake and its colours are green and silver. The house ghost is the Bloody Baron. Founded by Salazar Slytherin, the house is composed mostly of pure-blood students, due to its founder's mistrust of Muggle-born witches and wizards. Slytherin house has a negative reputation, with many claiming that it is the source of most Dark Wizards in Britain, notably Tom Marvolo Riddle, a.k.a. Lord Voldemort, as well as many of his Death Eaters (followers). It has a traditional rivalry with Gryffindor.

Hufflepuff - One of the four Houses of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Its founder was the medieval witch Helga Hufflepuff. Hufflepuff is the most inclusive among the four houses; valuing hard work, patience, loyalty, and fair play rather than a particular aptitude in its members. Its emblematic animal is the badger, and yellow and black are its colours.
Hufflepuff corresponds roughly to the element of earth.

Ravenclaw - One of the four Houses of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, founded by Rowena Ravenclaw. Members of this house are characterised by their wit, learning, and wisdom. Its house colours are blue and bronze, and its symbol is the eagle. The house ghost, who in life was the daughter of the house's founder Rowena Ravenclaw, is the Grey Lady. Many great wizards and witches have come from this house, including Filius Flitwick, Garrick Ollivander and Luna Lovegood.
Ravenclaw roughly corresponds with the element of air.

Testing and Classes
There are a variety of classes taught at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. These include both the core curriculum and the electives, available from third year forward. In the fifth year, students take the Ordinary Wizarding Level (O.W.L.) exams to determine whether they can achieve a score to continue to Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Test (N.E.W.T.) levels of the class in the upcoming year. Some classes, including the core classes, may be dropped in sixth year.
All first-years at Hogwarts must take seven subjects: Transfiguration, Charms, Potions, History of Magic, Defence Against the Dark Arts, Astronomy and Herbology. Flying lessons (on broomsticks) are also compulsory.
Electives chosen in the following years include: Advanced Flying, Alchemy, Ancient Studies, Arithmancy, Art, Care of Magical Creatures, Cooking with Magic, Cursebreaking, Divination, Ghoul and Ghost Studies, Healing Class, Muggle Art, Muggle Music, Muggle Mythology, Muggle Studies, Music, Mythology, Study of Ancient Runes, Wandless Magic Practice Class, Wizard Law, World Studies

History
Hogwarts was founded in the ninth to tenth century by its founders, Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw, and Salazar Slytherin. They came together to build the school due to increased suspicion of muggles and magic, and wanted to teach students without fear of prosecution. However, not all of them agreed on which students should be accepted into the school. Salazar Slytherin wanted to only admit purebloods, which was at odds with the other founders. He left the school, and never returned.
"Hogwarts was one of the finest institutes for magical learning by the thirteenth century, and together with Durmstrang and Beauxbatons, started the Triwizard Tournament. However, due to injuries and deaths resulting from the tournament, it was disbanded six centuries after it started. There have been many attempts to reinstate it, but none have been successful.
"More recently, the school has been the site for many different incidents in the last century. It was here that Voldemort learned his magic, and here that Harry Potter defeated him in the Battle for Hogwarts. It has also been the site for the most recent attempt for the Triwizard Tournament, and obviously remains a major school for magic today.

Beauxbatons Academy of Magic

About the School
Beauxbatons Academy of Magic is a Wizarding school located in the Palace of Beauxbatons near the city of Cannes in southern France. The school Coat of Arms is two golden wands crossed over one another, each shooting three stars. The name provided here is presumably an Anglicised version of a French original. The Academy has existed for over seven hundred years.
The Academy is a glittering palace, most probably newer and brighter than the Hogwarts castle. Both Hogwarts and Durmstrang are in castles; however, Fleur Delacour described Beauxbatons as a palace. The food at Beauxbatons, at least according to Fleur, is delicious, but much lighter than the food served at Hogwarts. Students are serenaded while they dine by choirs of wood nymphs. At Christmas time the dining hall is adorned with great, non-melting ice sculptures. Beauxbatons is Unplottable, so no Muggles or even wizards from rival schools can find it on a map, and then it is disguised so that no one can really see it unless they know to look for it.
Beauxbatons students stand at attention from when their Headmistress enters the room until she seats herself. They also seem to care more about their studies and their school's reputation than Hogwarts.

The Two Houses
Angelus - A boy's only House in Beauxbatons.

Aphrodite - A girls only House in Beauxbatons.

Testing and Classes
All First years are required to take these courses: Defence Against the Dark Arts, Charms, Transfiguration, Potions, Herbology, History of Magic, Astronomy, Flying, Fencing (for Boys only), and Etiquette (for Girls only).
Third years have the option for (two or more): Muggle Studies, Advanced Flying, Study of Ancient Runes, Arithmancy, Care of Magical Creatures, Divination, Ancient Studies, Art, Muggle Art, Music, Muggle Music, Ghoul and Ghost Studies, Languages, Alchemy, World Studies, Cursebreaking, Wandless Magic Practice Class, Mind Magic, Muggle Mythology, Mythology, Wizard Law, Healing Class, and Cooking with Magic.
In the Sixth year Students take the Beauxbatons Wizarding Exams.

History
Beauxbatons is similar to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The Academy has existed for over seven hundred years. The school originally had strict lines delineating the common folk from the nobility, and its houses originally reflected this. The lines originally reflected the stark differences in classes, and also showcased the social issues of France during that time. All that changed with the onset of the French Revolution. Even though the Statute of Secrecy had been in place for over a century, old grudges still held strong in the lower class houses against the houses of the nobility. The school ended up having to take drastic measures to ensure that Beauxbatons' halls would not be painted in blood. The school underwent drastic changes. After the events of the French Revolution, the old houses were abolished, as the nobility no longer held any power. It caused strife amongst some of the students and parents, however, in the two centuries since, those issues were eventually resolved. No longer beholden to keep with the initial houses, all the students are separated by gender, the girls in Aphrodite, and all the boys in Angelus.

During the 1994–1995 school year, a delegation of senior Beauxbatons students and their Headmistress stayed near Hogwarts Castle in Scotland to participate in a new Triwizard Tournament. The group arrived in a pastel blue coach pulled by twelve huge, winged horses. The carriage door was embossed with the golden coat of arms and opened to reveal golden steps. The horses also were golden-coloured, with red eyes, and fed on single-malt whiskey. The Gamekeeper Rubeus Hagrid took care of the winged horses. From October until the end of the school year, the entire delegation stayed on Hogwarts grounds, sleeping and presumably studying inside the coach, and eating in the Hogwarts Great Hall. The school champion was Fleur Delacour, who was unsuccessful in her challenge for the Triwizard Cup.

Durmstrang Institute
U/C

About the School
The Durmstrang Institute is a Wizarding school. It is located in the northernmost regions of Finland. Durmstrang has, however, taught students from as far afield as Bulgaria. Durmstrang was one of the three schools that competed in the Triwizard Tournament in the 1994–1995 school year. It is an old school, having existed since at least 1294. The students at the school wear fur cloaks, fur hats, and blood-red robes.
Durmstrang, like Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, is inside a castle, though their castle is not quite as big as Hogwarts. The castle is only four stories tall and fires are only lit for magical purposes. It has very extensive grounds. In addition, the school is Unplottable; Durmstrang, like other schools, likes to conceal its whereabouts so the other schools cannot steal their secrets. Their arrival by ship implies that Durmstrang is somewhere at the seaside or by some river or major lake.
Durmstrang does not admit Muggle-borns. However, it is shown that the students may not necessarily share this idea, as Krum attended the Yule Ball with Hermione Granger, who is Muggle-born and would not have been admitted at his school. In the films, Durmstrang is said to be a male-only school, though in the books both genders are seen entering Hogwarts as representatives for their school.
Durmstrang is notorious for its acceptance of the Dark Arts, and was known to have educated (and later expelled) Gellert Grindelwald before his ascension as a Dark Wizard.

History
Legend of Four Beasts - Long ago, four great demons terrorized Japan. The people of the island nation lived in fear of these great beasts. Muggles and Wizards alike were forced to join forces for protection from the demons.
A single man, Mahou, a wizard of incredible skill, was asked to protect Tokyo. The young wizard packed his bags and began his way to the City. The four demons laughed at the though of a single man protecting all of Tokyo. They planned to attack the city, one by one. Each challenging the wizard to a battle to the death.
First the Blue Dragon, flew over the city. Breathing walls of fire upon it's inhabitants. Mahou quickly took up his broom and challenged the beast. For hours the two battled over the city. Finally with a wave of the wizards staff, the dragon was defeated. With a flash of blue light the dragon faded, leaving a glowing blue orb in it's place. From the orb burst a great enchantment, all the flames of the city went out. A layer of protection landed over the city, no longer could Dragons attack it.
The other three demons were infuriated at the wizard's defeat of the dragon. They decided it best the purple owl, attacked next. Again a fierce battle was held in Tokyo, the owl demon causing great winds that tore the buildings apart. Yet the young wizard stood his ground. After a day the wizard had finally beat the Owl. A bright purple light shown as the owl faded, and a purple orb appeared. The winds stopped and a layer of Protection landed over the city.
The remaining two demons grew all the more angry. It was then decided the Gold Kishin would attack the city. The Kishin attacked, bringing with it the waves. The young wizard battled it fiercely defeating it in a matter of hours. With a bright golden light the Kishin faded, leaving a golden orb. A layer of protection covered the city.
The final demon, the Red Tengu, was infuriated that his comrades had been defeated. He attacked the city. When his eyes finally locked on those of the wizard who had defeated the others. He let out a cry. "You have defeated the three demons, you have their protection. Wheresoever you travel with those orbs that place will be safe." With that the Tengu attacked the wizard, The fiercest battle unfolded. Finally after a long battle the exhausted wizard beat the final demon.
With a burst of red light, the demon faded. Leaving behind a red orb. From the orb burst a essence of life, reviving all the lives lost in the battle with the four demons.
Finally the demons were defeated and after much praise and celebration the wizard gathered the four sacred orbs and returned home. On his island home he built temples around each glowing orb. With the enchanted protection around the island the wizard began to gather many of his kind, Witches and Wizards from all across Japan. And thus the Mahoutokoro Institute was born.
The true story - It is unknown the true story of the founding of the school, though it is much commonly believed that a powerful wizard took the name of Mahou and developed four orbs of power. They were then stored in temples on the island he called home and many came to him to learn magic.

History
❝We begin in a time of uncertainty. The witch trails that sent panic and fear though the land had ended, but their effects still lingered. Neighbors doubted neighbors and a baby of a community lived in fear. They were considered dark day, where two groups sought the safety of the New world. The first were wizarding families eager for a fresh start and new possibilities, the other was a group eager to shape and control the uncharted wilds for their own dark purposes. As these two desired warred for control, threats from the non-magical community came in view. The Dark forces began a war on two fronts, which of course lead to their doom, but their last effects echo to this day.

Darkness grew from within then. With the Trials done, lingering worries about the dark forces return sparked debated so fierce that many lost their lives. Not just was it new hopes verses old laws, but old ways verse adaption. Many old families, those we call Blue Bloods vowed that the only way to fight those of the dark arts was to arm yourself with it. Their voice was strong and steady in a time where a country was just starting to take shape and a community was still an infant. The Blue Bloods chanted this belief "Arm our wizards with darkness to protect our pure daughters." As the youthful wizards had their hearts tainted by the dark arts, they believed in their foolishness that they're daughter would remain pure by studying only the art of household magic. Under this chant and armed with that belief, many minds began to believe that it was the only way to protect ourselves. Thus Darkmark Institute for Wizards was created.

Yet young minds can't be caged and so three brave witches stepped forward than and sought wisdom from a craft far older than even those of the old countries. They shared their experience with only those they trusted and thus formed what we call the Witches Coven. This small order of witches gathered in this town where so much fear and hatred had started, pledging themselves to the act of countering the growing darkness with Truth's light. Thus the Salem Witches Coven Haven was born.

And it grew... Yes, my students it grew. Despite the attacks, despite the laws, despite the vile words and crude actions done against those proud witches it grew. The voice of those three witches, whose names are lost to time, was steady and filled with truth. So much truth, that not even the fear clouded shouts of the Blue Bloods could silence it. Trust me, they did try. As time passed, each generation would try to break the coven in till they all folded. Even when the laws, issued by the American Administration of Magic, made the schooling of young witches illegal. The school continued to hold strong, merely adapting to the world as best it could.

So that the future, you, your daughter, theirs and now those sons that we will never know will be truly prepared for the dark forces that haunt our lands to this day. Whether this is in the Congress Hall of our Senate or with your pen to paper. You and those like you will continue to speak the truth that our founding ladies sewed into the ground. The Coyote, Crow and our dear Lady Spirit would be proud to look upon those who have gathered here to continue their pledge to seeking, speaking, and solidifying the truth.❞

Roman Institute of Witches and Wizards

About the School
The Roman Institute has been around since Ancient Roman times. It is commonly believed to be one of the first schools of Magic established.Originally it was commonly said to be a school for children of Trivia, the goddess of magic who naturally were born as mortals yet had the ability to use magic. While it is unknown if this theory is true since witchcraft and magic have been traced back to many ancient civilizations with many sources of Origin, the Ancient Romans and modern day Italian culture still believe this theory.
It is said that the school was originally established inside a Temple of Trivia in the city of Pompeii, where all children and adults with any possible sign of magic were brought to be taught and trained in the magic ways. The city of Pompeii having become one of the first wizarding communities of the world, where muggles and magical lived alongside in peace. Until the eruption of Mount Vesuvius destroyed the city and the school, killing a majority of the nations wizarding population.
The Roman nation then took the magical survivors and transported them to several Temples of Trivia to continue their studies. A School was not reestablished until after the fall of the Roman Empire. In the early 1100's a the school was established in Pisa, the famed Leaning Tower was the magical entrance. One merely had to tap their wand upon the wall and they would be able to access the hidden school.

Shanghai School of Wizardry

About the School
The Shanghai School of Wizardry originated in the Qin Dynasty in the year 217 BCE in what is presently known as Shanghai. It was created by a follower of Confucianism. The school was originally located under a waterfall but has grown sense then. It was almost completely destroyed in the Song Dynasty thanks to the use of new weapons by a group of anti-magic radicals. They had not known of the group and had not set up spells to stop them. After that the school was placed under a spell that repeals muggles and made unplottable.
The school follows Confucius teachings to this day, having been founded by one of the great teachers with many followers. It also follows many ancient Chinese traditions. The most apparent is in their use if houses. There are 12. One for each animal of the Chinese Zodiac. Students are sorted based on their Zodiac sign as well as by a stone that will sort them by skill. If a student is born in the year of the Goat and the stone glows green then the student is in the Eighth room of the Dragon house. Green equaling Dragon and the goat being the eighth animal of the zodiac. The school started to allow female students in the year 1920 CE.
