Wizards has been busy of late developing their latest edition of D&D, calling it "Project Next" (or D&D Next, I thought Project Next sounded cooler). It pulls from the familiar and more welcoming territory of 3rd Edition while keeping a few mechanical traits from 4th Edition (and by few, I mean very few)...or in other words, its Wizards' Pathfinder.

Currently it is in open beta and up for multiple user input. So if you've tried it, let us know; how is it? Worth getting once testing is complete?

It has a 1st edition AD&D feel and the balancing of 4th edition. Trying to get that to work is taking time but right now it feels right.

Mapless combat is quick and easy. It is as involved as the Players make it.
Mapped combat remains the same as 3.x and can go for as long as the DM wants it.

It could work. Although they'll have to contend with the slew of alternatives which have gained increased fan bases from 4th edition.
