EDIT: Wrote this a while ago, working on improving my Gaia experience now.
I don't know anyone here. I have been on this account since 2009 and all I have to show for it is random names friended to me and a bunch of items and god alone knows how many hours spent on generating virtual revenue.
Taking my writing seriously, having a partner and taking care of the home we share means I don't have the hours I used to have. Gaia is nothing but a time suck. I sign in, I click on stuff, I earn virtual money, I stare at people talking. Been here since 2009. Still don't know anyone. Maybe I should take a hint.
I even built a charity thread in the test forum, figuring that maybe if I gave away gold and items I could get people to converse. But in the end it comes down to feeling pathetic- it would be like paying people to talk to me- and time. Running a charity thread would take parts of my days and if it wouldn't be satisfying then the days would be ill spent.
Leaving doesn't seem ideal, not after all the effort I put into my account here. But I am alone on Gaia and, again, maybe I should take the hint.

Tonight isn't so bad. There is chatting and a little RP going on. But none of this lasts, you know?
For a while when it was still fairly new, I was a regular in the Heaven forum. But things didn't last there, either. Nothing is permanent on Gaia, it seems. Not for me, anyway.
It's basically just chatting.

The events are usually the best places to begin chatting with people, but depending on the person that's not always the most effective approach.
(I'm a good example, since I'll be friends with just about anyone, but I'm not really good at being the starter in a conversation. On top of that, my interests are pretty straightforward and single file making it difficult to talk outside those parameters. My personality is possibly the only thing that actually helps others converse with me.)

I understand fully your postition on Gaia and have been there myself. I am your booty grab nut here and than on top of it I come in and try to run the guild Insomnia.. Things are always changing and people vanish sometimes on Gaia without warning... Yet there are plenty of people to meet and chat with and sometimes strike up a a friendship with. If you want to chat feel free to add me and chat me up all you want.. I am always on and always in the mood for a great chat... Plus you should join us in the Valentine Event here in Insomnia... Contest and prizes. But best of all we have a conversation that is going in their like mad. The monthly chat forum in here is another hot spot to chat with people and get to know them.. We do have that RP thread open now. The type you can make a thread of your own type of RP in.... Feel free to go there and try it out.... In the future I love to get a group RP for everybody to get involved in...

XP CrosStitch updated and there was this hat and I just had to make something work with this hat. Heh. The shade of blue your avi is wearing is very nice. ^.^ And Dream Avi 2 on your profile is a well-composed design (I love it when avis use brown, it's a difficult color to use here). How close are you to getting that avi?

I've only been on less than a year and I made so many friends thru the events! Don't give up yet! I love it here - and yes I have many random friendings where we mutually needed body counts for now defunct games lol, but I've also made some real lasting friendships with some wonderful people. Don't give up hope - you just have to get yourself out there!
