Buddhism and Shinto: A place of purifying where souls of bad people are sent to be cleansed of evil before being sent on to their next destination

Judaism: A place where all but the righteous are sent, with different levels of severity for different levels of wickedness. The wicked stay there until all the wickedness in their souls is burned away.
