so ive been doing drumline for a few years.. and its really starting to bug me and im starting to hate it so i have been thinking about doing guard. i can already spin better then some of the people on the guard and i know id make it, but my parents are being jerks about it. the first thing my dad said when i told him i was thinking about doing guard was "wait, you arent gay are you?" which im not and he knows that, and my mother said the exact same thing, i dont know what to do to change their stupid stereotypical mindset that ll guard guys are gay. any suggestions?

I think your parents should be a bit more open with this. One of our best members and one of my great friends was a guy on our team. He was NOT gay. BUt so many assumed just because he was on guard. We all miss him alot. He was so fun to be around. Weirdly we looked alike. (we are in NO WAY related) but we were the same hight same hair color and same hair length. (his hair was and still is long. Surfer style I suppose.) But our body structures were simaler, but obviously different since I am female and he male. But I say go for it. Join guard, I love guard. I've only been on it for 2 years and I'm going to miss it alot since I graduate this year. But I really enjoy it and hope that if you join that you enjoy it as well. I wish you luck!

We have 6 guys on our team and only one of them is gay so the myth that all guys that join guard is wrong

i'm not a guy but i can sympathize about parents being jerks about to join. i wanted to also but they just said no with some dumb excuse

if your parents dont get why you are joining then you should have them watch a game then they might get that guard is totaly cool and more boys should be in it!

i think that the sterotype that all guys are gay who are in colorguard stop way too many guys from joining guard. we had like two or three guys on our team my senior year and none of them we're gay. actually i think one of them was dating a girl in the guard. i love when guys are in guard cause they have so much more power so they can do some pretty awesome tricks. i saw at this huge competion we went to in las vegas and there was this all guy college guard (i believe) from oregon. they we're so frickin awesome and really cute. lol. i didn't believe for one second any of them we're gay.

I would so LOVE to have a guy on our guard. I was so jealous whenever I saw a guard with a guy. Tell your parents you want to join so you can hang out with chicks all the time. Especially if you have some good looking girls in your guard. That might stop the "are you gay" question.
