Only one. That's how many times I have tried sushi.
tbh, it scared me a bit. You're supposed to stuff the whole piece in your mouth, what is THAT supposed to be. No nibbling a new flavor? wtf? What if it sucks? I nibbled. The piece of sushi fell out of my poorly held chopsticks and I hope I snatched it off the floor before anyone noticed. Well, the odds aren't good that I wasn't noticed. Aw, screw it. The sushi didn't taste like much. It claimed to be shrimp with spicy sauce but I mostly tasted the backwater musk of seaweed. I managed three pieces- stuffing the last two in my mouth as I was meant to, no nibbling- and kind of innocently sat back after that, trying to inconspicuously not eat any more.
My bf suggested I try pieces from the deep-fried roll. He was very fond of it. He was the reason I tried sushi to begin with. I demurred. I had tried sushi in general which was more than I had thought I would ever do. Since nibbling new sushi means people not mentioning that they notice you picking sushi off the floor, the only decent way to try new sushi is to stuff your mouth with an untried flavor. Eff that shiz. Deep fried or otherwise. I am a coward. Though I did discover fried rice that evening. Holy crap, fried rice. Just give me a few pounds of pork fried rice and I'll be fine for days. I think. No one's given me a few pounds of pork fried rice. So it's in the hypothesis stage. Who knows, it may be true.
For the last couple days, I have craved to try sushi again.
What the hell is that? I hadn't liked the sushi I did try. Is it because sushi came up in a chatty thread recently? Is it sushi's attractive design and plating, as seen in the deli of Whole Foods? Do I feel that I have been challenged? Eff you, sushi, you can't possibly taste like nothing but seaweed. You pulled a fast one on me. Millions of people enjoy you, sushi, and I am going to find out why. I WILL FIND OUT WHY.
WHAT WILL YOU FIND OUT NO MATTER THE COST? scream Uh... that is, is there something you have wondered about and think you should look into? Like, why do all your friends love that TV series you couldn't get into, or what's up with the fascination for that singer anyway, etc.

I love sushi. And all seafood, in general. ^^
Beginners to sushi should try rolls first, most start off with the simple and yummy California Roll, though you won't really find much fish in there. Instead, the meat of a crustacean-- the crab. (: Stick around the sushi rolls that have veggies and stuff in them if you're not too enthusiastic about the "raw fish" idea. I love all sorts of sushi, and could recommend a whole entire list if I could remember all their names. xD

(: Stick around the sushi rolls that have veggies and stuff in them if you're not too enthusiastic about the "raw fish" idea. I love all sorts of sushi, and could recommend a whole entire list if I could remember all their names. xD I am not enthusiastic at all about raw fish. emotion_donotwant Two suggestions for eel sushi make me wonder if I am going to break my "NO EEL TO BE USED AS FOODSTUFFS" policy, though the policy has served me well for yea these many years. Eel sushi. Why not, I guess. How do you feel about eel sushi?

Tainii I love it. (: It's one of the most basic kinds. It looks, generally, like this, and it doesn't look very appetizing unless you try it. To me, it just tastes like a normal fish that's been cooked and has taken a roll in teriyaki sauce. ^^; It's one of the first kinds I had eaten as a kid. Uh... that picture was not at all expected. I thought it would be a roll with minced eel inside. Ok, it's settled. I shall try EEL SUSHI at first opportunity! I will probably tweet photos of it first. It looks way too interesting to not document.
