The Japanese publisher Kodansha and anime company Toei had big news for Sailor Moon fans today: They will be producing a new Sailor Moon anime, to debut next summer. The original Sailor Moon manga (published by Tokyopop) and anime helped kick off the anime and manga revolution, bringing a whole new cadre of fans, especially women and girls, into the world of comics. Fans have been speculating about the return of the anime ever since Kodansha USA started re-releasing the manga, with a new translation and new format, last year. The manga has been hugely popular in the U.S., with the most recent volume spending four weeks on The New York Times graphic books bestseller list. The new anime was announced today by Sailor Moon creator Naoko Takeuchi and the idol group Momoiro Clover Z, which will perform the theme song, during a 20th anniversary event that was streamed live on the Japanese site Nico Nico. Voice actors Kotono Mitsuishi and Tohru Furuya, who played Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask in the original, participated in the event, but it’s not clear that they will be in the new series (although the Sailor Moon fan site Moon Chase says they will). While details are sketchy right now, it appears that the anime will be released simultaneously worldwide.

Let them be girlfriends like they are supposed to beeeee. I have a feeling any re-lease will be much truer to the original format. Unfortunately, dubbing/English adapting was done back then to make the show more "kid-friendly" and to reduce parts of the culture that would "confuse or not make sense to" people not familiar with Japanese culture. sweatdrop Those resulted in the debacles like the "cousins." I think the media world's starting to figure out that us anime/manga fans want it as close to the original as possible. Except for 4Kids, but we'll just hope none of this even comes within a hundred miles of them. lol

Not really sure how that is going to work (subtitled version, I guess?) 4Kids sounds familiar. Is that the company that dubbed Digimon? Or maybe Pokemon?

They're also infamous for their "kid-friendly" disaster editing of One Piece. They're still caught in that "make it kid-andnon-Japan friendly" thing. I know they replaced "rice cakes" with "doughnuts" in Pokemon (when they're clearly not doughnuts on screen) and cut out entire episodes that they felt would be inappropriate due to things like the characters having guns. I know if One Piece that they edited characters who showed too much cleavage, edited blood off anyone in fight scenes, and either deleted any smoking or turned the cigarette into a lollipop. X_X

X_XI figure people could probably figure out what a rice cake is? XD So it seems silly to change that. Kids aren't that stupid. I remember there was one banned episode that Jesse wears the a inflatable body suit to give him large breasts. Lol. The smoking thing MIGHT be in accordance with some U.S. television laws. Maybe. I think I remember mention that shows and movies geared toward kids weren't allow to have smoking in them as to not normalize or glamorize smoking.

I think I remember mention that shows and movies geared toward kids weren't allow to have smoking in them as to not normalize or glamorize smoking. Perhaps, but I think the greater issue is that things like One Piece really didn't need to be aimed at little kids. It's mainly a teen manga/anime. sweatdrop But yeah. Apparently kids can't handle rice balls and... apparently text on signs...even when it's not actually a real company name?
One of the riceball changes is here at about 30 seconds and 2:10: http://youtu.be/upHaMuO4g6c Apparently also characters talking about the plot in one show get edited to talk about cafeteria lunches. X_X And some odd image/text things 4Kids apparently decided needed changing: http://youtu.be/MYUdTLFAwZ4
And their bizarre censoring of One Piece: http://youtu.be/aFpYrEkEiNY I really don't get some of their decisions at all.
