What do you think makes a devout Christian? Do you follow the Bible to the letter, or are there passage within the Bible that you feel aren't necessarily God's word, but the word of man?
Please share your thoughts. heart

When I think "devout Christian", I think of a person who is devoted to Yeshua and his ways of love, which means we are dedicated to YHWH and his ways of love too since he and the Father were of one mind (they both told us to fight for the truth, to uphold justice, to help the poor, the widows and the orphans, and to stop sinning; when we sinned we had to "approach him" [confess and repent] and receive forgiveness/atonement). Yeshua always agreed to do what the Father instructed, he always sought the Father's glory never his own, he wanted to please YHWH (the Father), not man. A Christian that isn't dedicated to Yeshua's instructions is not a Christian. For one to be loyal in this way, they have to believe all of the Old Testament at the very least which Yeshua himself quoted from, because the OT (aka Hebrew Scriptures) describes a Messiah, prophesying what exactly the Messiah will do (even the biblical feasts/calendar speak of this.) The Old Testament (from Moses to the Prophets) constantly communicate that if his people turn back/repent towards YHWH, love him with all of their hearts, love his ways with all of their hearts, he'll never forsake us. A devout Christian is one whose mind has been reconciled to the Father, who is dedicated to him with all their heart and strength, and continues trusting in him. Quote: Deuteronomy 6:5-6 5 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Quote: 1 Kings 8:23, 56-58, 61 23 and said: “Lord, the God of Israel, there is no God like you in heaven above or on earth below— you who keep your covenant of love with your servants who continue wholeheartedly in your way. 56 “Praise be to the Lord, who has given rest to his people Israel just as he promised. Not one word has failed of all the good promises he gave through his servant Moses. 57 May the Lord our God be with us as he was with our ancestors; may he never leave us nor forsake us. 58 May he turn our hearts to him, to walk in obedience to him and keep the commands, decrees and laws he gave our ancestors. 61 And may your hearts be fully committed to the Lord our God, to live by his decrees and obey his commands, as at this time.”Quote: John 8:28-29 28 So Jesus said, “When you have lifted up[a] the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he and that I do nothing on my own but speak just what the Father has taught me. 29 The one who sent me is with me; he has not left me alone, for I always do what pleases him.” Footnotes: a. John 8:28 The Greek for lifted up also means exalted. Quote: John 10:27 27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. Quote: John 14:9-13, 15, 24, 30-31 9 Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. 11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves. 12 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 15 " If you love me, you will obey what I command.24 Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me. 30 I will not say much more to you, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold over me, 31 but he comes so that the world may learn that I love the Father and do exactly what my Father has commanded me. “Come now; let us leave. Quote: Colossians 2:16-17 16 Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. 17 These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ. Quote: Colossians 1:15-23 15 The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. 19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross. 21 Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of[a] your evil behavior. 22 But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation — 23 if you continue in your faith, established and firm, and do not move from the hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant. Footnotes:a. Colossians 1:21 Or minds, as shown by

I would not use the term devout christian. I love Jesus and I follow His word to the best of my ability but I am not perfect. I think it would be impossible to follow the Bible to the letter, but I do not go out and willingly sin either. I am under grace which gives me power over sin and means when I do sin I am forgiven and the Holy Spirit reminds me of my righteousness through Jesus Christ. I think that God's word is the inspired word of God. There may be different interpretations but the spirit of the Word is still there. It is enough to keep us on the right path. I would not add to the word with another book like the book of enoch or the book of the mormons. There is enough in the word. I follow and believe that the Bible interprets the Bible and there is no other book needed.
Does that answer your questions?

Does that answer your questions? Everyone has their own way of answering my questions, and you had done it the way you feel is best. That's all I could ever want. I love hearing individual commentary, and you provided that. 3nodding
