Is it just me or?

Is it just me or does it seem that some games were designed with online roleplaying in mind? On the other hand some seem to more highly reject the notion to ground themselves more to the tabletop than previous rpgs from the past.

I for one love a game called Savage Worlds which implements an actual mechanical advantage to good rp. It comes in the form of "bennies" which can be used to re-roll the dice. However since the ability to "voice-act" the character usually assists this. That and initiative being done with a deck of cards can be a little difficult too.

D&D 4th edition though seems to operate seamlessly with the online format. The heavy organization of encounter types, abilities and mechanics can be easily used online. However some complain at the table for it being too "heavily mechanized" and can be cumbersome for role-play.

Any of you people notice as well?

It certainly seems that 4e was in a way designed to be played online. It certainly seems easier to play online! Not a bad move, IMO, since it seems more and more people are starting to play online more than offline. Groups drift apart for many reasons, but they can still play together online. The fact that 4e is pretty accessible for online games is just a good idea.
