A bump thread is a thread you make in order to advertize your tank. Let me link you mine so you have an example to look at.

Generally, you make a thread but delete the 14 post after your initial post (this is to make it load faster). Usually, the post has a direct link to the tank, links to an analysis of the tank, and a thank you to the people who bump. Some people post contests (I do this occasionally) and the times that their tanks will be glowing.
You -- and other people -- bump the thread while the tank is glowing so that people can play Booty Grab. It's basically advertizing your tank.
