I feel somewhat bad for the baby and the mother. I really can't feel sympathy for a murderer, however, no matter what s**t he went through.
And I'm really not sure what the CPS could have done different.
It would have been more irresponsible of the CPS to suspect child abuse and then not take the baby immediately. While it wasn't abuse this time, most cases may be, so I really don't see why they should always assume the parents are good people. It should be the opposite because it's better to insult and make parents upset than risk a child's health.
