This line makes me raise my eyebrows a little: "Farmers don't have a lot of tools and training."
Indicates to me that they are using poor farmers to make a huge profit while the farmers get next to nothing. Otherwise, they should have enough money to buy more tools and get training.
And I love that our response is "Let's genetically manipulate this plant just like the rest! WHOO!" Because it so much better to genetically manipulate plants rather than train farmers and figure out a better way to grow the plant.

Blood for Chocolate?
Prices will start rising to a premium well before appetite exceeds the supply, or maybe a major disaster of nature or disease will chop off one or two thirds of the human population and it won't be an issue anymore.
