St. Patrick's Day is a day to celebrate St. Patrick bringing Christianity to Ireland. He used the three leaf clover to explain the trinity to the Irish kings. It is also suppose to be the only day you aren't suppose to drink.

They aren't suppose to drink because it dishonor's what Patrick went to Ireland to do.

The key words here are "aren't supposed to." This meaning that they shouldn't but they do it anyway. If you look farther down in the article, it extends on the line that you quoted from the article. "In 1903, Saint Patrick's Day became an official public holiday in Ireland. This was thanks to the Bank Holiday (Ireland) Act 1903, an act of the United Kingdom Parliament introduced by Irish Member of Parliament James O'Mara.[21] O'Mara later introduced the law that required that pubs and bars be closed on 17 March after drinking got out of hand, a provision that was repealed in the 1970s." ^_^ So it isn't a typing error. I hope that helps. <3 : )



Fun fact time? xD Wiki and Wikipedia are two different things. ; ) Wiki is many user made glossary type sites for one specific thing. Ex: There is one wiki for Gaiaonline, another separately for zOMG, another for Viva Pinata (one of my xbox games xD ) Wikipedia is a type of wiki, but more so, one whole site for information on pretty much any topic you can name. <3 ^_^ -Two cool videos I found to help any confusion that I might have now created. >.< Yay for videos!!! : D First video!!! We don't have potatoes on St. Patrick's Day. It's to remember why my ancestors came to America due to the Great Potato Famine. Also you aren't suppose to wear orange because St. Patrick's is about country unity. The color orange was the color of the rebel's.

My great grandmother's parents came from Ireland. Maybe boiled dinner is a New England custom? I too wear green. mrgreen

I told a friend of mine to wear green for my St patty's day party this Saturday and he asked why and I warned him about the pinching.
