Hi. I'm new here, You can call me Misu or generally whatever terrible names you may choose to call me. I don't mind, I'm fond of nicknames.
Anyway, I'd like to speak my little mind about something that seems to bother me, The fact that as Gaia user's get richer they generally mistreat those who don't bother taking the time to, A. Purchase Gold or B. Farm Gold constantly and/or Beg constantly.
It seems the more gold that fills their inventories, The more intelligence declines. People tend to find the need to Stereotype themselves in such a fashion. (This is not in all cases but tends to be a common sight.)
I proved this point myself, I used to be rather wealthy on this site but decided, "Why do I spend so much time doing this? Who cares." So, I gave away all of my gold to friends. And now dress as the humble messenger you see before you now. This post may arise some complaints and if it does, Please take it down off of the forum. I do not come to pick fights, I come to point out facts.
Perhaps later I'll show the "Stereotypical Avatars" project I've been working on. It's a bit of an interesting thing.

I mostly agree with you, this can be applied to real life and zOMG as well. Altough not all "rich gaians" are like that. (i think you said something like this in your post somewhere).
In zOMG users tend to judge each other by their CL (ring rank) and how well they know the knowledge of the game (the "lingo", how to get to certain areas of the map, quests, etc.).
In real life, I was going to go shopping at a mall, and I remember my mother telling me not to wear my worn, comfortable shoes. She told me to wear my "nicer" shoes. Then she said the people at the shopping mall make fun of each other's shoes (to see who's rich, middle class, poor, etc.). I don't know how true her statement was but one day i'm going to go over there and wear flip-flops, my pajamas, and a jacket to see for myself.

I've noticed this, too, but I think there are more than just a few exceptions. Well, hopefully. This guild alone is teeming with rich but generous and friendly Gaians. Our captain alone is probably the richest and most giving members on the site. She gives things away to people no matter what how rich they appear, and all she asks for in return is a thank you.
And it can be applied to real life as well, as others have pointed out.
I'm not exactly innocent. I do sometimes find myself judging someone if what they are wearing (on Gaia or off) is extremely "out there." Once I'm aware of it, I try to put a stop to it. Of course, the more outrageous the outfit, the harder that is.
I've given away millions, but I'd still like to help out wherever I can-- to new and old members, no matter what they are wearing or who they are. I hope I can continue to give to people.
:] I bet I fit one of your "Stereotypical Avatars," don't I?
(Also, I think I'm going to move this thread to "Gaia Life." Although this is discussing avatars, I looked over the subforum rules a few times to make sure, and I think it will actually fit better there.)

Personally i think if people can't be bothered to work for what they want and choose to beg instead (which takes more work then earning the gold themselves) then i really dont have time to deal with them.
Now in saying that, i have been on this site since 04 so i haven't really gone out of my way to make gold for the most part, it kinda just builds up till i either buy something for myself or someone else (or just donate gold) but i find there is more elitism about join dates and "olbies" then what there is about wealth.
Speaking as someone who frequents the AT forum a lot, yes i do take notice of what people are wearing, but 90% of the time i couldn't tell you how much the avi cost and nor do i really care. People who put too much emphasis on what something costs really need to find something better to do with their time lol
I would love to see the stereotypical avi project you mentioned btw, because i find that certain types of avis frequent certain areas (such as the AT, CB, Rally etc )

I will try to finish up the project this week but I need to venture back into Rally to find the certain ones. Then post my final project after I finish.

I agree. Begging-- no matter what your avatar looks like, how long you've been on the site, etc.-- will make me get out of a thread as fast as I can. I like to find friendly, nice people in forums. If someone puts together a quest thread that shows time and is working toward a goal and is sweet and friendly, I want to help them. That's when I like donating gold or items the most, when people show they are working hard to earn something on their own.

Many of the people in this guild are an exception to your rant... or at the very least, the most active people in this guild. I try hard not to judge people, but it is very difficult to escape the inherent prejudices from the media and people around you.

I'll give my two cents, just 'cause it's an interesting topic. I actually have never seen a 'rich' Gaian mistreat another user for not begging. XD Unless I misunderstood your original post (where you said that the rich Gaians tend to mistreat users who don't "A. Purchase Gold or B. Farm Gold constantly and/or Beg constantly.") I might have read it the wrong way. I guess I'm lucky in that I've never experienced any rich Gaians downing the 'poor' Gaians. In fact, I kind of don't visit Gaia forums a lot because I dislike coming across mean users. Call me a coward, but it's true - I strongly dislike confrontation, that's all. I totally understand the "who cares?" thing. I often think that myself, and wonder why I spend so much time caring about my wishlist and items above forums or interacting with other Gaians. Call it something I do that's meaningless but gives me an odd sense of comfort. Call it my "solitaire." Or my "taipei," or my "mahjong." X) Playing with this little pixel figure is fun for some reason, to me. Hm, that's about all I have to say. I just don't know enough to contribute to this topic because I've stopped visiting forums regularly a while ago (with the exception of one or two out of extreme boredom.)

I hate begging, regardless of who people are, or what their avi looks like.
Makes me die a little inside. Also, people who friend me thinking that just by being my friend entitles them to my riches... mostly because I'm a packrat and rarely let anything (I like) go... A lot of the richest gaians I know work hard for their gold, by making avi art, while my method is mostly hoarding and selling.
I only got access to Gcash last month, and bought my first bundle, but I never judge anyone for not being able to pay for it (or in my case never wanting to spend real money on Gaia until now anyways).
I personally judge people on their style of typing, and the way they "speak." Not from if they are wearing the most expensive item in the universe. I focus more on the language people use to get me to respect them, even if they have the most "horrible" or "noobish" avatar around, I respect them if they can pull even a complete sentance together, because it seems like the entire internet is lacking on that behalf.

There's the idiocy of judging people solely by appearance as it pertains and to following the latest fashion, and then there's the idiocy of glorifying slobs. Is one really better than the other? When someone wears pajama bottoms to school, it's more trashy than anything, in my opinion. It's almost like saying, "Bathing is just for the rich. I'm going to show how unclassist I am by ceasing to observe any practice of hygiene." As for what ones avi looks like... I'd say it should be judged on how well it expresses what the user wants to express. Avatars simply are what they are. If they spend more time (and maybe even money) on Gaia, then they will have more options at their disposal. That won't make their avatar necessarily better. As for CL, that is purely a matter of utility. I like to crew with a CL 10.1 or better, because I want to be with those who have some idea of what they're doing.

I blame texting for giving people the lack of ability to type out an entire sentence without abbreviating, or using a acronym. I'll have to agree with you about people being able to type out a complete sentence. Because isn't annoying when people just throw random acronyms in the middle of a sentence? I end up being baffled by it and take two or even three hours trying to find out what it means without asking the one who put it there as to not put me in danger of another acronym.

I beg to differ. You obviously spend too much time in the nastier parts of gaia *cough*GD*cough* Honestly, there are some forums who have adopted attitudes that are nearly as hostile as 4chan. It's best to avoid those places. Unfortunately zOMG has also become one of them to a certain degree. It's not so much hostility as much as it is elitism, but the end result is somewhat the same. Fortunately for me, I got to play zOMG before the elitists completely dominated the game. The only reason for the correlation between gold and arrogance is because most of the time the good guys here spend too much time helping others out to make the gold. However you do have vendors and cash users who also help people (off the top of my head, there's Darien S.; HyruleanHero; Navashuryn; and probably a lot more that I'm forgetting). Really if you spend enough times in the right places (the bug reports forum and Q&A are good places I find), you can start to see the better side of gaia (which unfortunately is not a very large side LOL).

onc i a like1.5 million gold. now i don't because i spent a mil and donated the rest to finish my friend's item quest. no i am slowly getting it back. this is actually alot like Halo Reach. you get people who grind and grind and grind to get to inheritor for the Haunted Helmet. and sudden they start smacktalking people who aren't inheritors. ??? the great part is that, I--a semicasual gamer who plays more mario kart that halo--can and will range from holding my own to stomping a** when going up against people of this 'coveted' rank. i die more to people of same or lesser rank. so it is a good question. why do people tend to grow attitudes when get something that only takes time to get?
