Xun Li wandered around the area outside the den. She was bored and wanted to play games and race and hide and hunt and, and, and do stuff! But she couldn't find any of her siblings. And Mommy and Daddy were busy.
She searched behind bushes and around big boulders for any of her siblings. "Where could they be?" She asked herself. "They didn't go invisible ... I hope. That would so not be fair! I want to be invisible too!"
"Maybe a magician came by? Or a unicorn with magical powers?" Xun Li continued looking for any and all of her siblings, imagining all the different stories and possibilities that popped into her mind.

Ruan Yu thought it was unfair how difficult it was to climb trees. Leopards could do it so easily, and he was half leopard, so should he be able to do it, too? He had been trying forever to get into even the lowest branches of a red-leafed tree. There were birds up there that he wanted to catch!
When his sister came by, clearly looking for something, Ruan Yu was sitting on his haunches staring directly up into the tree. He couldn't jump any harder than he already had been, and he couldn't climb up into them either. Behind him his tail lashed with frustration. His ears and whiskers twitched with frustration. The birds were fluttering from branch to branch, squawking and whistling at one another, and probably laughing at him.
Ruan Yu hated birds, he decided.

Xun Li finally spotted Ruan Yu, but was now more than sure that her other two siblings had found a cloak of invisibility or even a great helmet that did the same trick.
Xun Li bounced her way over to Ruan Yu and knocked her head against his shoulder in a way of greeting. Sitting next to him, Xun Li was aware of her smaller size, as she tended to be with both her brothers. When she was with Zhenzhen, she didn't ever notice.
The birds were singing high above them in the tree and Xun Li stared at them as Ruan Yu stared. Finally they lost the birds became boring and she turned to her brother with two questions, "Ruan Yu, why are we staring at birds? And do you want to play a game with me, pretty please with a gazelle on top?"

"I'm going to eat them," he growled. "They're just sitting up there being smug and stupid and I hate them, so I'm going to knock them down and eat them."
His tail continued to twitch irritably even in the face of his newly-arrived sister's cheer. She might be bored, but he had found an enemy for life in these birds, and all others. At least that was how he felt about it today. Probably he would have forgotten by the time he went to bed that evening.
"Oh, all right," he said. "I guess I'm not going to get the dumb birds today anyway. What do you want to play?"
He really hoped it wouldn't be a climbing game. Some of his siblings could climb, but off the top of his head he didn't remember which of them could. The fact that he couldn't made it the sort of game he didn't like playing, and so he didn't hang around whenever it was brought up.
"We could practice running."

"I like races! Can we race? See who can run the fastest the furthest? Ruan Yu, let's go, let's go!" Xun Li all but shouted as she hopped up onto her paws and started to pounce and bounce Ruan Yu in excitement.
Xun Li was little, but she knew she was fast and she liked practicing for the times when Daddy and Mommy had them running to get something or remember something. Plus usually after running where ever they stopped always had something sweet smelling near by, and she really like sweet pretty smelling things.
It was a game AND rewards all in one really. No matter who won or not.

"Yes, yes. We can race," Ruan Yu agreed. Then he frowned. "But first we have to stretch. Or else we'll get hurt. Remember what mum and dad said about that?"
The whole litter was meant to grow up into messengers, so they already learning a bit about their future profession. Maybe his siblings didn't take it as seriously as Ruan Yu did, but this little leotah thought it was important to do his very best all the time, so that he could bring honor to his parents.
He began the exercises their dad had shown them all a few days ago and waited expectantly for Xun Li to join in. He was confident that she would. It was the right thing to do, and he was doing it. Why wouldn't she do it, too?

But she was already nice and stretched! She been stretched since early this morning! And then she'd gone to find her siblings and was still stretched from that! And she didn't really need to stretch because she was a good little leotah and always stretched every few hours.
Xun Li puffed out her breath and begrudgingly followed Ruan Yu's example because, well because he was her older brother and she loved him and he seemed so lonely doing the stretches by himself.
"There! Ready! How about you?"

Ruan Yu didn't particularly care why his sister was falling into line and doing as she ought, as long as she did it. Ruan Yu knew what was best for her, and for everyone. Because he was a very concerned, caring young feline, and took everything very seriously. Which was part of the reason why the birds upset him so.
He counted aloud as he stretched, keeping track of the number of repetitions he made and how long he held them. It was important to do everything exactly right. He always took a great deal of care to do that, never doing more or less than the prescribed exercises. Perhaps he would not quickly get ahead that way, but he would not be breaking any rules. Only once he had finished completely did Ruan Yu nod to his younger sister.
"Yes. But we should set a starting point and a finish point." Deciding to lighten up a little, he rewarded Xun Li with the offer, "You may choose them if you like."

Xun Li plopped down onto her huanches and took a long long look around. Hmmmm, where to go ... "Hmmmm." Xun Li focused on a weird shaped tree at first with its branches twisting up toward the sky instead of like the other trees that branched out to make lovely shade for the noon time heat and sun. She shook her head and decided it was too close for a real challenge.
Another option came to her in the form of a flat rock that was at the edge of her favorite cliff but she dismissed that too. They may not stop in time and go hurtling over the edge. A dangerous adventure that Xun Li knew Ruan Yu wouldn't like at all.
"There!" Xun Li pointed to a large boulder that kind of looked like n upside down monkey's head if you squinted and tilted your head to the right. It was far enough away to be a challenge, and had obstacles as well like running down hill while jumping over fallen logs or dodging small animal holes and stuff. "There, Ruan Yu! It's perfect! I'll race you to that monkey headed boulder!"

Ruan Yu watched Xun Li's focus shift to the tree with the gracefully twisted branches. He thought it was artistic, and he liked the tree. Furthermore, it was close enough that it would be a good, safe race.
He followed her gaze as she focused elsewhere, but he couldn't see what she was focusing on, and wondered what she was thinking about. Judging by the direction of her gaze, she might be thinking about something by the cliff where she spent a lot of time, but if she suggested that he would veto it. That was too dangerous!
"There?" Ruan Yu asked, squinting toward where his sister indicated until he saw the funny-looking rock she meant. It was a good thing she'd clarified that, though, because there were other things in that general area that she could've been indicating. "Well...I don't know."
It wasn't ideal. There were a lot of obstacles. But he guessed it wouldn't be bad to practice running with obstacles. The paths he and his sibs would have to run wouldn't always be flat, smooth, and cleared, after all.
"Okay..."
Do you want to RP their race, or just have their "and they're off" type posts be the last ones?"

Xun Li beamed at her brother when he agreed, hesitantly, though she didn't notice. "Yay!" She jumped up and bounded around him in excitement now that the race had been settled. "This is going to be sooo much fun!"
She made one last circle around Ruan Yu and then set herself up next to him in the starting position of a race that Mom and Daddy had shown them. Her tail waved lazily in the air behind her. "Are you ready, Ruan Yu? GO!"

Ruan Yu was dubious, but his sister was so thrilled at his assent that he couldn't help feeling a little bit of excitement at the upcoming race, though he wasn't sure "fun" would be the word he'd use to describe it. This was practice for his future career.
"Whatever you say," he said softly, doubtfully. If neither of them got hurt or killed, he would be very surprised.
Just the same, he fell into the same starting position their parents had showed them, not mimicking his sister, and yet looking uncannily like her. His spine twitched with readiness to run. Even though he couldn't climb trees, Ruan Yu could run. His body liked it.
At her "go" he darted forward, pacing himself so that he would last until the end, and wouldn't come upon hazards too quickly to avoid them.

Xun Li ran. When she ran, she focused and the world faded. Everything. She made no sense of the blurs around her. She loved running. It was one of the few times she didn't feel like she was the smallest of her siblings. The smallest in the pride. When she ran, Xun Li felt as large of the wind. As graceful as the sea. Connected to the earth. Burning with the fires of the sun and stars and moon.
She was meant to run, built for it. If she could have closed her eyes, Xun Li would have. But you don't close your eyes during a race. Even with your brother. Maybe especially with Ruan Yu. He'd give her a lecture about it probably.

Ruan Yu ran carefully. He could run faster, but he preferred to run responsibly. As a messenger, if he got hurt the message wouldn't get through, and that would be irresponsibility. That was what he told himself when his sister reached the finish line first. He even managed to restrain himself from telling her how reckless they had been in running that race, and listing every reason why they shouldn't have taken that particular track.
Instead he came up to her after they had both finished and said, "You ran well."

Xun Li panted slightly as she reached the boulder first. She'd made it first and she pranced around Ruan Yu when he came over to her. Not arrogantly, but delightedly. She was the runt and Ruan Yu was her older brother and she'd won the race. "Thank you, Ruan Yu! You ran well too!" She beamed and nuzzled her head into his side.
"I love running!" Xun Li felt so alive after a run, and now having won a race it was a stronger emotion. She felt like she could run to the sun's bed in the west. "Do you want to go find the others and practice hunting together on the beetles in the area?"
