Ok so some of you may know I have been worried about Deedee on her raw diet. I was going to switch her to a good grainless kibble, but was convinced I should stick to raw. Most of her health problems shouldn't be linked to food. However, now I have noticed another problem with her. Her teeth. She came to us with bad teeth. My parents aren't the type to do much research into dog care, I was just a kid, so with us the only dental care she got was a very occasional raw chicken neck. So as much as I don't like admitting it, my dog has terrible teeth and it's my fault. Also, I think aging may have something to do with it, but she has lost a few at the front, and some are getting wobbly/weaker (her back ones seem to be intact though). So being concerned about her teeth, which are beyond just tartar, and worried about whether I can give her everything she needs, I will be switching to a pre made raw food. With the amount she needs, it will only cost maybe just a bit of $20 per month. The food is made by Dr. Billinghurst, so I trust it. We have bought a pack to try on both dogs, and looking at the ingredients it contains everything they need to be fed, just the bones are grinded up, and I feel more confident. She can still chew bones though, I just don't think she is going to be able to deal with them every day, and only chicken bones now. So about once or twice a week I will feed her chicken necks, to stop her teeth getting any worse, because she does like chicken necks, I want her to keep those muscles she uses to chew working well and because chicken necks are probably the softest RMB I can get for her. As well as that, she will still get her raw egg twice a week, and fish once a week, plus raw bits of meat when I am making Sparky's raw.

And yep, Sparky will be staying on home made raw. He does well on it, and I like having him chew the bones daily. And he really enjoys munching down a good chicken wing. Plus now that I have the pre made raw ingredients, well they are pretty simple to base a diet around, so I will cut out the ingredients and keep them with me just for if I ever feel like I could use some quick help when sorting Sparkys meat. Oh and the other reason besides the benefits for Sparky of why I want to continue home made raw with him... is well, I find it fun (which some people think is just plain weird, considering I am vego myself...). But I don't know, I guess I just like sorting out really healthy meals for them and running around the house with chicken frames over my hands like gloves

So, both my dogs will still be on a raw diet, one is just going to be on a pre made, and have less bones. And only one type of bone. While Sparky will continue with how we have been going.

That's great. I'm glad you were able to figure out a plan that meets everybody's needs.

I'm with you on the fun thing. I especially like feeding my dog in front of visitors or people who aren't familiar with raw. They find it pretty fascinating that my dog eats better than we do haha. It's a great conversation starter.

Good luck on continuing with the diet! My co-worker's two dogs both have teeth that rotted out before she got them but they still have their carnassial teeth intact so they still get chicken quarters, goat chunks, and lamb ribs. But mostly they get ground tripe and the occasional half a can of wet food.
