SO the hurricane is near Norfolk Va which is a 3 1/2 hour drive for me. The winds and rain are really starting to pick up. And it is dark out. And the storm is really supposed to start hitting the Delmarva Peninsula hard in about 1-3 hours depending on how fast the storm moves.
Joy.
EDIT: A post from a lurker. Can't remember the last time I made a topic.

I'm in Maryland.
Also, the title made me think of the song Come on Eileen. xD
I hope I'm safe and my family is safe.

I'm in Puerto Rico and Irene was only a category 1 hurricane when it paid us a lingering visit but it left quite a lot of damage regardless. Too much rain, 17 inches to be exact. Landslides and flash floods everywhere.
I hope you guys are safe! gonk

Are you near the bay? Eastern or western shore? I'm in Delaware.

Naree Are you near the bay? Eastern or western shore? I'm in Delaware. I'm right by the bay. I live in Cecil County most of the time, but right now I'm in Harford with my father.

Oh wow. We live pretty close to each other then. I am at my in-laws house because I live in a mobile home. My parents live in the capital and are safe because they live on high ground.

My parents live in Norfolk, VA, so they went to go stay in a hotel a little further inland. Dad's worrying about what damage might be happening in their absence. He wanted to sit it out, since he doesn't think the surge is going to be a big problem in their area, but Mom feels much safer at the hotel, so they're waiting it out with our two kitties. They tell me they're all right so far.

I like Norfolk. When I had a friend stationed there I would go like every other month or so. Winds are really starting to pick up and can't see out windows. That is about it here.

Turns out that the only real damage the property sustained was that they lost the crown of the tallest tree on the property and the cold food in the fridge. They lost power for a while, so... But there wasn't any wind or water damage to the house or anything, so that's good! biggrin
