From Dev Notices: zOMG Gold Curve A new gold curve has been implemented in zOMG. Details and explanation below (but it's LONG). Overview For a long time zOMG has been giving out too much gold; we've made several tries at adjusting it, but there were still some issues. The main feedback from the community was that new content was the key thing they wanted -- so how can we do that while getting the economy more into balance? (There are other issues of fairness: for example, there are people that are buying the zOMG items to show their support, but they aren't getting very much tangible benefit from it). Details So, what we're going to do is this: - we have 4 people working on an entirely new area for zOMG. This is a substantial investment in zOMG, based on community feedback. - we've simplified and upped the curve for donators and AutoCash subscribers. Every day you can earn up to 160k in zOMG without any effects, and then the gold scaling goes down to 20%. - for people that are not donators or AC subscribers, the new scaling kicks in at 10k. However, some people do not have access to cash -- so we're offering a zOMG gold potion in the cash shop that will confer the donator gold-earning levels for 3 days. So, you can spend some gold, drink the potion, and for the next 72 hours you'll have the benefit of the gold curve. This allows social players to play zOMG with their friends, confers some benefits on people that buy zOMG items, and allows people without cash the chance to earn gold at the same rate as others. So, an entire new area is kind of a big investment. How can we know if it's successful? It's obvious that zOMG items / powerups / rings / whatnot are important, but there are other things we'll be looking at: - total traffic in zOMG. Right now zOMG is behind Towns and Rallies in popularity; we're hoping that with a new area that it will be the most popular flash game on Gaia. - number of new registrations driven as a result of zOMG. If you refer a friend, or get them interested in the game, try to make sure that they register through /zomglanding. More details in the zOMG forums or journals, as appropriate. Updates for Gold

I hope it's not as stupid as the boardwalk update.

Yeah... I saw that one coming.
Yet they have done very well in bringing inflation under control within the last year, in my opinion.
There is going to be a huge outcry over this. It wasn't a smart thing to do right as they EXPECT players to bring more people in. Allot of people will get all indignant and refuse to play, and others will feel like playing is pointless after the beat the new area.
Although, I see their reasoning, I'm not sure it was necessary, or wise at this particular moment in time.

I just love how they look at it as one of the many causes for inflation. Granted it does create alot of gold. I just don't see it along with everything else as to why items are so high priced. I use this item all the time for my points, but like Lucky The Cat. That does not need to be 40+mil. I don't care how so called rare it is or that there isn't that many of the item out there. Don't even give me the whole supply and demand argument. Users list an item for whatever price they want. So in my eye it's more of is a virtual item really worth that much. I believe no. I say it should be no more than 10mil if even that. Then there are other items like the Angelic, Demonic and other so called RARE items that are 100mil+ No item no matter how so called rare it is should be 100mil or anywhere close to it. Just my opinion.

And I don't know about not playing after beating the new area. They might release a new place to farm gold like SS/EB or PS, which would bring more players in.

Yes I know it would kill the whole MP if we did limit items and how much they could be listed for, but well it still makes me laugh and sometimes cry because no item needs to ever be as high of a price as they are. Like DJ Studio Headphones and Portable Stereo Headphones those do not need to be as expensive as they are. Like I would love to list my items for cheaper prices, but I know if I listed an item that is selling for 10mil for let's say 2mil I am being nice to someone who buys it, but then I'm cutting myself out of 8mil. Now if I was to do this for a friend it's fine, but for some random person I would never be able to do that.

The thing is, if an item is selling for a high price then people are actually buying it at that price. If it is artificially inflated then it usually comes down rather fast, as no one pays that much for the item.
If the items isn't selling, then the seller lowers the price until someone is willing to pay for it. If someone is willing to pay a high price for an item, then I think the fault lies more with the buyer and their desire...
...but Gaia has been doing an alright job at working ways to bring those higher cost down as well, by re-releasing old premium items in increasingly higher quantities with the newer RIGs. They are doing it slowly enough that the majority of people don't seem to care, and hoarders who are paying attention to the monthly RIGs have time to dump their hoards before the end of the month.
I expect the inflation issue to continue to get better, but I didn't think ZOMG was a major problem right now. With a new area, it might have been a potential for increased inflation, if as many people jumped right on as they are wanting. But allot of people farm PS as their means of gold, and they are going to be furious at their loss of income.

Plus people sometimes hoard the rare/expensive items just so they have it and feel rich.I think once the price goes down there will be more of the item since it's not worth as much as they want.

We also have to take into consideration the other small gold sinks on gaia that help cut down the damage from zOMG/bootygrab such as genderbender potions, gold shop items, EVENTS (piehard), along with the cutbacks on zOMG. I'm almost positive gaia wouldn't release a new area without some way of making up for the damage, in this case the 160k gold cap. I know several players who can make anywhere from 100-300 and sometimes even 400k each day from just farming, with the 160k limit, it can cut that down by half. On a side note- I think the gold potion should be sold for gaia gold, it seems like it would have been an excellent goldsink.

I've seen some exchangers make deals that give them 5 or 6 million gold in profit, and vendors who catch a mispriced items for millions of gold lower than what it's worth.

I am not against the gold cap. In fact, any way that the admin can get the MP to deflate some is a boon to me. I don't play ZOMG for gold, I am pretty good at vending, I don't hoard, so I am not sitting on anything that would potentially break me if it deflated. Less gold in circulation puts a smile on my face.
I just have already started seeing people talking about quitting, and they are regulars, and allot of them. If Gaia is wanting allot of people to check out the new area, and people who already play to refer their friends, I don't think now was an opportune time to piss off a large chunk of ZOMG regulars.
Yet, maybe it is intentional. If they piss enough people now, who are in a sense addicted to the game, and announce a new area at the same time, new people who could care less about the cap will be enticed to check it out. Then later, when the previous crowd has had time to cool down, and the new crowd has lost its enamor of the new area, and left the game again, the servers won't be so overloaded.
I guess what will be will be.

Panagrammic However, some people do not have access to cash -- so we're offering a zOMG gold potion in the cash shop Is it wrong that I find this funny?

I think he was assuming people would just list them in the MP and those who cant get cash could buy them there. Bad choice of wording on his part.
