Explore!

Dead Cat's Hollow is a strip of dry land among the banks of the swamp where a huge colony of abandoned dens of unknown creatures rest. The dens are unstable and cave in frequently, and many cat skeletons were found inside, giving the place its name, so the legend goes a phantom haunts the place and kills intruders, but is a hot spot for adventurous apprentices nonetheless.

Despite how much love I've shown
and the comfort in your eyes I've known...

If you die, I'm all alone
despite the souls that fill my home

The only thing I need is you
but if I tell, what will you do?

I cannot help you
I will not leave you
You cannot hear me
You will not love...

(( SHOOT sorry I didn't mean to quote you, Echo & Thistle, lol ;_; " ))

Puresun watched Cipherkit, Stunkit, and Dark-kit (the NPC one) tumble around, a light purr in her throat.
She had come here to mull over her recent decision to confess her love to Forsaken. She needed him to know that she cared deeply for him. However...she was also going to tell him that she could not leave her Clan for him. NightClan was forever her home, even if she hadn't treated it kindly her first few moons of life. This was her mother's Clan, her family's Clan. She could never leave them.
Then the kittens had followed her out here. They knew her scent well from her visits to the nursery. She told them the story of the Phantom inside to keep them scared enough. They needn't explore the dangerous tunnels, especially after they were flooded. The kittens were now wrestling and having fun, even in the gloomy NightClan scenery. It lifted her spirits.

Then, all at once, the ground began to rumble.
The kits didn't notice it at first, but Puresun did. She stood, glancing around with alarm.
"Come here, little ones," she called. "I don't like this shaking."
They stood and began walking towards her, their little tails up in the air. Dark-kit, however, was chasing after a leaf in the opposite direction.
Towards the tunnels.

"Dark-kit, stop!" Puresun yowled, her fur rising. "Please come here! You-"
All at once the rumble burst into a roar, and the unstable tunnels collapsed in on themselves. The earth rushed inward, and Dark-kit disappeared in to the gaping hole that was forming in the earth.
The kittens screamed as Puresun stared in shock. Her feet moved on their own and grabbed the two kittens. She spun on her heels and felt the earth falling under her feet. Thrusting with all her might, she stumbled across the sliding dirt, struggling to reach a safe, solid place.
Trees were dragged into the hole, and the entire world seemed to be falling into this massive, muddy whirlpool. Puresun could see a safe ledge on a solid boulder for the kittens to be placed. They had crawled over her head and were now clinging to her neck while she churned her feet, the mud sucking up her legs and at her chest.
We aren't going to make it-! she realized, despair churning in her belly. The boulder was so close, but the mud was so thick, and it was pulling in the opposite direction.

Guardianvow burst from the foilage and yowled Puresun's name.
"Guardianvow!" she screeched, her eyes wild with panic.

He made his way to the boulder, grabbing a stick in his mouth and dragging it to the top. He pushed it down towards the struggling group.
"Grab on!" he yowled at them, his teeth gripping the stick as it made contact with the mud.

"Go, Cipherkit!" Puresun commanded, grabbing onto the stick with her own teeth. "Hurry! You too Stunkit!"
Cipherkit struggled up the branch, mud tugging at her fur. It was a long and grueling process, but she made it to the top of the branch, collapsing at Guardianvow's side.
Stunkit was halfway up the branch when something suddenly tugged at Puresun's pelt and she was dragged under the mud. The stick shook violently and Stunkit tumbled into the mud, wailing.
Puresun fought her way to the surface again, swallowing mud and dirt. She coughed violently, struggling to see. Stunkit was being sucked past her, but Guardianvow still had a hold on the stick. She used her muzzle to nudge Stunkit back towards the stick, kicking her legs as hard as she could. With a final nudge, she managed to push him onto the stick before another violent tug dragged her under the mud.

She had no more energy left. Exhaustion swept over her as she was pushed farther down the surface. Everything was pressing in on her, crushing her, twisting her body, until finally something snapped and everything went dark.

There was a deafening silence before her mother's eyes flashed out of the darkness. Then there was a blinding flash of light, and Pursun found herself collapsing in a soft meadow someplace far, far away.

Stunkit barely managed his way up the stick before Guardianvow reached out and grabbed him, panting. He licked the mud off of both kits vigorously, then stood over them protectively.
He gritted his teeth, lashing his tail. Sorrow and anger raged through him. His fur stood on end, and he let out an ear-screeching yowl of grief.

Puresun was dead.

The atmosphere after the quake grew eerily quiet and somber, as if the surrounding air had grown heavy with grief. Guardianvow's shadow darkened and began to ripple like disturbed water as a tall and lanky figure slowly rose from it, glowing crimson eyes focused upon him. Forsaken looked vary unlike his normal self, the wide and cracked smile that usually stretched from ear to ear was missing. Saying nothing he glided past Guardionvow, completely ignoring his presence, and over to the pit of mud Puresun had vanished into.

The shadow loomed there for a while, the glow in it's eyes growing dull as a dying flame. Forsaken could not feel the warm burst of life it usually felt whenever it grew close to the little she cat. The shadow melted into the ground and pulled her out. Her once beautiful, silky fur now caked thick with mud.

Gently he placed her on the ground. The tall figure's sinister eyes had melted into those of a lost kitten.

"Puresun... Im sorry i haven't been here sooner. At least now you are free from the troubles this world and I have brought you. I have been untruthful to you, hidden words you should have heard many moons ago, and for that i cannot forgive my self."

Slowly it knelled down to look at her face. It seemed peaceful dispute the horrors she had faced. Forsaken once again felt completely alone in the world. It had known that she was a shining light in its life, but never realized just how much she had been there for it until she had been taken way. Where she had gone Forsaken could not follow.

The demon's heart ached, wishing to pull her back into her body, to trap her in the living world with her, but Forsaken could no longer be so selfish. It had always been selfish, having Puresun suffer for it's sins.

but now she was forever free, Forsaken had just wished that she had stayed a little longer to hear his last farewell.

"I love you."

The demon closed it's eyes in pain as it's form began to steam and it lay on the cold earth next to her. The shadows melting off of it's back. A dim glow of light reflected off of soft, black fur that had been hidden underneath and the cursed light fled from the demon's eyes, leaving them clear for the first time since they had witness the fire that had originally blinded it. The melting shadow's eyes flew open as hit let out a silent scream to the sky

The darkness that it had hidden in, found safety and comfort in, was being ripped out of it

horror filed Forsaken's mind as a burst of light flooded in taking the darkness place

The light was far to bright

too bright

too vast

to empty

Forsaken was now exposed for what it truly was... empty.

... the curse had been lifted.

A black tom collapsed next to her form, his paws stepping out from the pitched black shadow below him and feeling the earth for the first time. The soil burned his exposed paws as his eyes focused on on the one thing that was peaceful and not frightening.

Her face.

In a broken lullaby he began to speak to her

"I love you i love you i love you my dear...

the sight of your light is the one thing that i fear...

and yet it is the only thing i hold near."

Flowers.

Blooming, everywhere.

It was an explosion of color and life, unlike anything she'd ever seen before. Fire burned in a soothing way, warming her fur, filling her with energy, and she was blinded by the beauty of it, rising into a world all her own, when

something tugged on her foot

and she looked down and saw that place, that dark place with sadness and regret and a choking, debilitating helplessness, filled with trouble. She saw him huddled there, that dark shadow curled around her form,

and he whispered the words she had longed to hear, the words she'd convinced herself he would never say, the feelings she thought were hers alone

all at once that flowering place above her faded away, no longer relevant, and she sank back down, peering at him in wonder as a massive darkness melted away from him and revealed what she saw deep in his eyes, that cat which had been lost so long ago.

His emotions swirled around her-the confusion and fear-and now she understood. The world of the dead, once his home, was now hers, and he was with the living.

They had switched places.

Must we never find our peace?

How cruel fate was!

She pressed against him, understanding now that he might never feel her near him, by his side, and sorrow filled her heart, and love and anger, and she closed her eyes, shaking her head, a small tear slipping from her eye.

"I'm so sorry" she whispered.

"Memory is the treasury
and guardian of all things."

Guardianvow's eyes bulged out, staring at the thing that had just emerged from the ground.
It cradled Puresun, confessing to her, and he watched as all the evil seeped back into the ground, revealing a broken tom lost in his sorrow.

His mind whirled.
She had mated with no rogue! Whatever this tom had been, he was far worse than a rogue. A dark spirit! How was it even possible? How could she have bred such dark sins...? Nobody'd ever seen the children, and now he understood why. What deformed creatures must they have been for her to allow them to be taken from her? For her to realize they could never live inside the Clan, lest they bring unimaginable darkness with them?

And yet, as he watched the tom mourn her, he had a vague understanding of why.
Love could be a cruel thing.

He understood now why Puresun's sorrow seemed to go far beyond that of forbidden love. It wasn't just forbidden by the Clan. It was forbidden by the nature of all things...!
Something living, and something very dead, consorting together...

He almost wished he had known. Perhaps then he would have been nicer to her, kinder to one who had fallen so far, yet still clung to what goodness she could.

The small kittens did not see nor hear the spirit cat. They were too busy wailing and hiding in his fur.
This cat was not his concern. Puresun was gone, and he was certain the tom was not a threat to NightClan; he was as scrawny as anything. It was no use chasing him off. Somehow, Guardianvow knew the tom was uninterested in NightClan.

Fighting the urge to cry out for his lost friend, he struggled to his feet. He hadn't even noticed the ground had stopped shaking. Grabbing the two bundles of fur in his mouth, he turned and skittered away, not wanting to deal with the spirit-or tomcat- or whatever he was now.

He was on his own.

Guardianvow hurried back to camp, ears flat, still unable to fully digest what he had seen but locking it away for later. He had other priorities now.
