How do you all feel about it? What are your concerns?, Opinions on US. involvement?

http://rt.com/news/al-qaeda-libya-american-arms/

Personally, I feel we should greatly limit our involvement in foreign affairs of this nature. Many times before, in Cuba, Afghanistan , and other countries, US involvement only resulted in tyrannical regimes that oppressed their people and led to many human rights violations .

Plus with the news of the rebels links to terrorist organizations, I think it's even more obvious that we should take a step back from this conflict and refocus on internal American issues and work on our foreign policy with countries that are actually open to our involvement.

I have mixed feelings about it. I really don't like the US being involved in another conflict in the middle east, especially since unemployment is so high and the economy is going down the toilet. On the other hand, I think about France. If France hadn't stepped in at the last minute, the colonists probably would have lost the Revolutionary War. So, I think, considering our beginnings that it might not be a bad thing to assist people who want a regime change, especially since they've been asking us for help. Then again, Canada just waited it out, and they became their own country, and didn't lose any lives in the process. confused I'm just glad that I don't have to make those calls. ...and that's when the screaming started

My dad and I are worried that, as Scythe pointed out, with the rebels' ties to terrorist organizations, the regime change will only serve to result in yet another dictatorship just like the one under Gaddafi. "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss," as The Who put it. ("We Don't Get Fooled Again" by The Who...and now I stop with the completely gratuitous classic rock references.) And ditto for all the other uprisings in the Middle East, whether the rebels have known terrorist connections or not. Maybe it's the cynic in me. I dunno.

So I guess it's a game of trying to side with the lesser of two evils. confused

Oh my goodness! I've found something so incredibly appropriate to this conversation. Have either of you seen that video with the baby twins talking to each other yet? College humor added a translation of what the babies are saying. It's too perfect! xd

I agree with yellow text baby. How many times must the same mistake be made before we stop making it?

If it were a quick in and out job, that wouldn't be bad. But, it would be terrible if we were sucked into something it takes us years to get out of. I mean, are we ever going to get out of Iraq? What's keeping us there?

From what I gather, despite assertions to the contrary, Iraq is still not stabilized and still has only a weak government and military.

As for Afghanistan, only the cities are in a good situation. More rural areas still need work.

The thing is, it's our various presidents assertions that we're somehow responsible for the world that caused these terrorist groups to target us in the first place. Go figure.

I'm still confused as to why we entered Iraq in the first place. I understand about going after the ones responsible for 9/11 in Afghanistan, but what did Iraq ever do to us? And, why is our government so hell bent on setting up democracies over there? I sometimes feel like the US is trying to take over the world. xp

As far as how we got in Iraq goes, It pretty much boils down to the bush administration being basically a room full of lobotomized monkeys.

I'm seriously wondering how he got re-elected. xp Did you know that when I was on choir tour in England, there were tons of war protesters set up in front of the houses of parliament? And, if you watched TV, you could see on just about every news channels how they were demanding that Tony Blair resign his post because of how he got England sucked into the war. Those people seemed like they were out for blood. @_@

This whole economy is going down the toilet. I can't believe they threatened to shut down the government over something that constituted less than one percent of the yearly deficit. I feel bad for the people in the middle east, but if we keep being involved in this overseas junk, the country is going to bankrupt itself. It bugs me to no end that politicians fight over small problems when they ignore the big ones that are draining the country's pockets. In other news, I'm seriously considering doing the JET Program (Japanese English Teacher) once Japan gets stabilized from the earthquakes and radiation. I want to travel, and I'm pretty sure I can get paid over there better than I could over here.
