Explore!

Sun's Peak is the beautiful highest tip of a mountain in StormClan's territory. Cats enjoy watching the sun rise and set, the sun melt into fires of StarClan. The path is a bit steep and rough, and this is a journey many mentors make with their apprentices. In leafbare, though, it would be covered in snow and freezing cold. Sun's Peak isn't so sunny then!

[Wandering up the steep slope through the tall grass the warrior made no sound, leaving marks behind as faint as that of a shadow's paw prints. Every once in a while the tom's ears would twitch and quiver, searching for the familiar voice that called out his name and tugged at his heart.]

"Whisperblade, over here..."

[Whisperblade turned to see a black she cat waiting for him out in the open, twitching her tail in a beckoning manner and meekly looking away. Tilting his head he slowly emerged from the grass, gliding closer. He could have swarn it was Thunderflight but something was not quite right. Once he was close enough a sweet sent brought bitter memories flooding back into his heart.]

"Thunderclaw?"

"Oh Whisperblade! Im so glad that you escaped! I- I thought I would never see you again... you saved my life, again..."

[The beautiful she cat threw herself towards him, tenderly rubbing her flank against his, her bright golden eyes watering as she looked at his shocked face.]

"I thought I lost you."

[The shadow warrior's fur bristled up with the shock of her sudden approach as he caught himself flinching backwards away from her touch. The she cat looked at him with a confused and hurt look.]

"Whisperblade is something the matter? ....don't, don't you love me anymore?"

"Thunderclaw? What are you doing here in Stormclan? Didn't you say you were living with your mate now?"

[The she cat looked away, slightly peeved at his sincere tone.]

"I made a mistake, he is nothing but a dirty rouge who only wanted me for my looks... he didn't love me fully like you do. You DO still love me right? Of course you do, you promised me your heart after all. Come Whisperblade, lets leave this place. Im sure the clan cats wont notice, you are skilled in the art of not leaving a trace afterall~"

[Thunderclaw began to walk off but turned when she realized that the tom was not following her. She turned to him and stared sternly.]

"....Thunderclaw I cant leave with you. Not any more."

[The she cat's eyes flung wide open in pure shock!] "What!?"

"It is true that I loved you, but I have found the one who loves me, and she... she loves me back. I cannot ever leave her, we have started a family together. I cannot abandon them. I have vowed to Starclan to protect Thunderflightl. She is more important to me than my own soul."

[Thunderclaw stared at her former lover with disbelieve, she remembered when he was loyal to her and ONLY her! How could this happen!? He was HERS and now she had lost him, for good, like she had wished to do before she released what he was worth. Her sorrow turned to anger as she glared daggers at him and turned to race off. Whisperblade flinched as she bolted off and started to chase after her.]

"Thunderclaw wait! ...come back." I thought you were... happy.

KITTY SAYS: ~

I padded along, my mismatched eyes searching and my ears alert for any sign of prey. What food that we would find would probably be small and weak but if I got lucky and if my mother's hunting skills were in my blood then I should find something. Right? I paused for a moment as a sound reached my ears. Scuffling. Searching. Searching for what? The same thing that I was searching for. Food. That scuffling sounded a lot like a mouse and as I moved forward on silent paws I soon saw that I was right. It was a mouse, plumper than I had originally thought it would be. Not substantially plump, but not skinny either. I did a quick inventory of my surroundings; taking note of where twigs were and stuff like that before I dropped into a crouch with not but one word to Ivorymoon. Within a few moments the mouse was no longer scuffling and I was now trying to dig a spot where I could come back for this prey.

When I finally managed to cover up the mouse I tossed a glance at Ivorymoon to see how he was fairing; after all we were on this patrol together. With an encouraging nod I looked to my side, where I caught a glimpse of a scent. I took a few steps that way. Squirrel. The scent got a little stronger. A few more steps and the squirrel came into view. Squirrel! Glorious squirrel! I dropped into a crouch and moved forward. Oh how I loved squirrel. Skywhisker took more to mice and voles but not me. I loved the squirrels. Skywhisker always told me that I got my love for squirrel from our mother. I believe her of course. She knew our mother. I never did but that's alright. I learn a lot about Forestsoul from Skywhisker. But enough time in my thoughts. I moved forward pawstep by silent pawstep until I was close enough to pounce and swiftly take the life of the squirrel. With a satisfied nod I padded back to where I had covered the mouse and did the same for the squirrel. "Ivorymoon? How're you coming along?" I asked curiously, gently poking a puddle with my paw as I waited for an answer.

Plop. That was the sound of the water as it dripped from my paw back into the puddle. It was so much fun to watch the water make ripples in the puddle. Besides, it sounded funny. I poked the puddle again; harder this time. Hard enough to get a splash big enough to get the tip of my nose wet. The moment the water hit my nose I let out a sneeze then a small giggle. It was fun! Of course that was when I remembered I wasn't alone. I shook my head and looked at Ivorymoon for a response to my earlier question.

Searching for clarity

Ivorymoon began his climb along the steep hill, trying to get a good view of the quarry. Out of the corner of his eye he could see Dawnsky doing likewise. He wondered if he would be able to find any prey…if the rain hadn’t already wiped away the scents. But Ivorymoon knew he couldn’t show up empty-pawed. It would show he had not been doing anything productive…but more importantly: Ebonysun would be very displeased.

Suddenly, his eye caught the sight of a little gray shape moving through the damp undergrowth. A glint of interest shown in the warrior’s pale blue gaze, observing the way it toddled side to side.
It’s small…but plump. Ivorymoon judged. He began padding forward, guiding his paws carefully over the forest debris. On closer inspection his prey revealed to be a pigeon, pecking at the grain-covered floor. All of a sudden, a twig gave way under-paw, alerting the pigeon’s attention. It spread its wings out in preparation to take off. But Ivorymoon was already running towards it, pouncing on the bird’s body where his paw pinned its neck. Ivorymoon quickly pressed on its neck, feeling the struggling lessen and lessen until he heard the satisfying crack...marking its end.
At that time, he caught Dawnsky’s glance and only looked the other way, wordlessly pawing at the ground to bury his prey for safe-keeping. The she-cat was fine, no need to divert any attention until the job was done.

He lifted his nose to the air, picking up the scent of mouse on the breeze. He turned around to see that it was a small mouse, scuffling through the brushwood with desperate paws. Ivorymoon slipped smoothly in the hunter’s crouch and began stalking forward, eyes trained on the hopeless forager.
I’ll put you out of your misery… Ivorymoon noticed that it’d stopped moving, its whiskers twitching. Finally it turned around, looking straight at the warrior, frozen in fear as the warrior’s paw made a swift dive and ended its life. He picked up the mouse in his jaws and moved back to where he buried the pigeon. His gaze traveled to the skies, seeing it was growing darker as their time here passed.

Dawnsky’s call sounded before the warrior could even pinpoint her location, soon after he heard water splashing. Ivorymoon looked in her direction to see she was playing with a puddle, but before then she was already staring back at him. His seemingly sightless gaze lingered on hers for a moment, hard and calculating—yet, hiding something of the contrary. Clearing it all away, he dropped his catch and calmly replied,

“It’s fine. I caught a pigeon and a mouse. And if you have your prey, I suggest we leave before the way back darkens.” With those words being said, the light gray tabby picked up his prey once again and padded passed the puddle-playing she-cat.

I shifted slightly on my paws as Ivorymoon held my gaze. I didn't like what it felt like. Was it my fault that I liked playing with puddles? Wonder how Rustdawn's fairing. I thought curiously with a small nod to the warrior. Flicking my paw a few times to get rid of the water, I stood up and gathered my mouse and my squirrel. It was an alright catch. If my sister had been out here, would she have done better? It was quite a thought. I had never seen how a flood or disaster would hamper her efforts. During both floods she had kits, so I couldn't see how she would do during this. Maybe it was better that way. Otherwise her pride might be hurt.

I shrugged it off and turning around, padded after Ivorymoon. As we padded along, I remembered the last part of the tom's words. leave before the way back darkens. At that, I looked up and huffed. It seemed like we had just gotten out and already the sky was getting darker. It wasn't fair. I loved walking around and now we had to head back already. Despite everything my ears perked up. I knew of one cat I could complain to. One cat who would understand my longing to be out in the forest. Skywhisker. She loved the forest way more than me. She would understand. With that, I nodded and briskly padded after Ivorymoon again.

ONE DAY I'LL KNOW THE TRUTH

Snowstreak limped forward, leaning against a rock. She was wounded incredibly badly due to the recent earthquake. Blood seemed to flow down her flank. She knew everyone had left camp, but she wasn't sure where they had all gone. Her brother had originally told her to follow Thunderflight, however, in the madness she had gotten lost and wasn't sure which way to go. Now, sighing, Snowstreak lay, trying her best to stop any further blood loss from the wound on her flank.

User ImageFeatherheart padded on, leading the hunting patrol in the direction of the Sun's Peak. She would occasionally toss some glanced backwards at Squirrelpaw and Dustpaw to make sure they; weren't too far away and that they weren't in any harm. So far the only mishaps were when Squirrelpaw would stumble over her own feet. Nothing to worry about, though the ginger warrior would have a story to tell Skywhisker upon their return.

When the group neared the Peak, the pretty she-warrior stopped abruptly and turned around to face the apprentices.
"Squirrelpaw, Dustpaw... You two need to be quiet now. Sun's Peak is just over there and we need all the prey we can find." Featherheart reminded them. She turned around and, with a flick of her tail she led the way into the part of their territory they called Sun's Peak. She slowed down and turned to her group, motioning for them all to gather near. "Okay, be more silent than usual. What prey that happens to be here will be more jumpy than usual. Dustpaw, I want you to try your absolute hardest to keep your tail still. Squirrelpaw, pay close attention to where you place your paws. And catch what we can" Featherheart whispered, lifting her head to scent the area.

The ginger warrior flinched and drew in a sharp breath when the scent of blood reached her nose. Whipping her head around, she began to move silently in the direction of the scent. Pushing her head past some foliage, the scent was finally placed to a creature.
"Snowstreak..." Featherheart breathed and raced to the warriors side. "Are you okay? What happened?"

User Image Squirrelpaw let out a mrowr of happiness as she knocked the older apprentice off of his paws. Yes, somewhere in her mind she figured he was probably doing that on purpose. But the thought never dawned on her at that moment. She hissed and returned the swipe he had given to her ears. The young apprentice laughed as Dustpaw's tail shot into the air. She gathered her muscles to jump when all of a sudden she walked right into Featherheart. Scrambling backwards she nodded solemnly at the words the ginger warrior said. She drew her ears back for a moment, distressed that they had to stop playing. But it didn't last for long. When Featherheart continued walking, Squirrelpaw stood up and followed silently, tripping over her paws a few times.

When Featherheart motioned for the group to gather, Squirrelpaw stuck her head close and held her breath so she could listen closely. She waited as the warrior spoke as well as give Dustpaw instructions. Just as Squirrelpaw's green orbs were going to focus elsewhere, a comment was directed towards the apprentice. "I will." She whispered in return. She would try her absolute hardest to watch where she was placing her paws. When Featherheart lifted her head, Squirrelpaw assumed that the "Gathering" was over and she went and sat down beside Whisperblade, ready to begin learning how to catch prey.

User Image Skywhisker nodded as the two toms in her patrol responded to her. She had learned by now to not flinch at the aggression in Firefang's tone. The first couple of times she had heard it, she had flinched and her brain would go crazy trying to think of what she had done to deserve that kind of tone. After a while she realized that he spoke to most everyone like that so she stopped taking it to heart. As she trotted along, she cast a glance towards Ivorymoon. He was very silent. It was a big contrast from his brother, Ebonysun; who wasn't afraid to speak his mind. She didn't mind it though, sometimes silence was nice. Though she did hope that he would say something, should the need arise.

As they neared Sun's Peak, the white warrior stopped suddenly and froze; ears perked and senses alert. The scent of blood had found it's way to her nose. The scents always seemed to find her before anyone else, maybe it was nature's way of reminding her how much she loved to hunt? Not that she needed a reminder. With a shake of her head, Skywhisker padded forward, changing her direction every time the scent moved. She stopped again when a second scent appeared. That one she could pick out. Featherheart. Skywhisker broke into a trot and quickly burst through a bush, skidding to a halt when she saw two familiar warriors. "What?" She managed to get out before nosing Snowstreak's cheek lightly. "Firefang? I think you'll want to help." Skywhisker called. Looking to Featherheart the warrior shrugged. "Do you have a quick footed cat in your patrol?" She asked, her multicolored eyes filled with concern. "We should send someone back to let Moonblaze and Fadinghorizon know that Snowstreak has a wound in her flank. So that they can be prepared with whatever herbs they need when we get her back." Skywhisker finished, then shook her head. Rethinking what she had just said. "Nevermind. Ivorymoon! Can you run back to camp and let Moonblaze and Fadinghorizon know that we're coming with Snowstreak?" She turned to Featherheart. "We'll take care of Snowstreak, you and your patrol continue hunting. We need that prey." Skywhisker meowed assuredly, nosing her friend's cheek. "Firefang, we're going to support Snowstreak up onto her paws. But we need to position ourselves in a way as to slow down the blood flow. Ready?" Skywhisker shifted on her paws as she rose into a standing position.

Firefang padded just behind Skywhisker when his sister's scent hit his nostrils like a storm. His ears twitched as he heard Skywhisker call out to him. The blaze colored warrior rushed through the brush before halting before Snowstreak, Featherheart and Skywhisker. Green eyes narrowed in anger, he swiped at Snowstreak's ear.
"I thought I told you to..."
Firefang growled under his breath before helping Snowstreak up.

Dustpaw had been leaping, excitedly playing with Squirrelpaw when he fell silent at Featherheart's command. His muscles tensed and he rose fully to his paws. H narrowed his eyes, mentally clamping down on his tail, forcing it to remain still. he unsheathed his claws from his soft paws. He was ready to try and follow Featherheart orders and hunt without making any mistakes. It would be a lie to say that he didn't want to show off in front of Squirrelpaw. He was older and more experienced than her, it would be down right shameful to be shown up by a newly appointed apprentice.

The chatty and excitable apprentice padded forwards, his eyes pressed forwards and his tail stuck straight out behind him, as stiff as a brittle branch.

Snowstreak's icy blue eyes fluttered awake as she saw Featherheart appear.
"Rocks."
Snowstreak said simply. Her blue eyes looked around as she saw Skywhisker and her brother appear. She gulped and ducked down as her brother swiped her harshly for getting herself hurt. She felt slightly guilty as her brother's fur brushed against her own as he helped her up.

((Sorry guys for my absence in the guild of late, lots of school work. ;w; ))

Whisperblade followed behind the hunting patrol silently, his ears erect and stepping softly, being cautious as to make no noise or vibrations that could alert small pray nearby in the grass. Once they had reached their destination Whisperblade sat silently watching the two apprentices play. The warrior smiled kindly down at the small apprentice as she took a seat next to him, ready to learn.
"Are you ready for your first hunting lesson little one?"

He spoke in a soft, soothing tone. He stood and began to tip tow over the grass in a stalking manner.

"First, in order to hunt you must locate pray, most cats however forget that pray can locate them first, so can often be careless i their footing. When you walk you must glide and shift your weight so as not to let the ground and small rocks shift and make noise."

Walking next to her he demonstrated, moving silently and at a brisk pace. He then turned and smiled at her, beckoning her to follow.

"Once you learn to glide, then pray is less likely to hear you, but you can hear them if you listen closely enough."

User ImageFeatherheart let out a sigh of relief when Skywhisker appeared. Yes, the ginger warrior was older than her friend, but she wasn't that quick of a thinker. She sat down and allowed her white pelted friend to take charge. Featherheart looked around at her patrol after the she-warrior had stopped speaking.. "Well..." She began before Skywhisker spoke up again. Nodding she shrugged. "Okay. Be careful on the walk back." Featherheart meowed as Skywhisker and Firefang led Snowstreak back to their makeshift camp by the lakeshore.

The ginger warrior then turned to Dustpaw after a few moments of silence.
"Alright Dustpaw. I think you already know the basics for hunting the type prey that resides here. So I'm just going to let you lose. Don't wander too far." Featherheart stood up and walked a few pawsteps away before turning to Dustpaw with a glint in her eyes. "Don't forget to tame that tail of yours." She purred before crouching down and scenting the air.

User Image Squirrelpaw watched Featherheart and Skywhisker in awe. Maybe one day I can be able to take charge like momma. She purred at the thought. Though her thoughts were cut short as her mentor began to speak. The question was met with an eager nod. Her first hunting lesson! She was a tail shake away from completely shaking with excitement. The small she-cat glued her eyes to Whisperblade and watched him as he spoke and demonstrated how to move. Gliding. She nodded. How hard could it be?

Squirrelpaw stood up and began to walk over to her mentor. As she did so, she tripped over her own feet and once again, stumbled down, face in the dirt. Jumping up, she shook her head and looked over to Whisperblade sheepishly.

((OOC: I rolled an 88, 1 medium & 1 small prey.))

Dustpaw dropped into a crouch. His unsheathed claws held his steady as he prowled forwards through the undergrowth, jaws parted and drawing in the sents of the forest, and tail held stiff.

The sent of mouse struck the back of his throat and made his mouth water. He twisted down wind of the small furry animal, ears straining forwards, breath coming in pants in anticipation of the catch.

The thick furred apprentice pressed his belly to the leaf littered ground, bunching his muscles at the sight of the mouse scurrying nervously around the base of a tree, risking coming out in search of food; it seemed to know it was being hunted.

Dustpaw shoved off of the ground, sinking his claws into the mouse, bringing his teeth down on the back of it's neck, killing in it instantly. He scraped the loose earth and leaf litter over it, planning on coming back to it shortly.

He raised his head, drawing the forest sent into his nostrils. His tail quivered, but he strained to keep it stiff and still. He could smell a bird. Thrush. he identified the bird as fluttering far above his head, it didn't seem to have seen him yet as it landed in a clearing beyond the tree he stood by.

He crouched low to the ground and prowled around the base of the tree, shrouded by ferns and undergrowth. His unsheathed claws left scores in the root of the tree that he crouched on, out of sight of his prey. The bird pecked at the ground, hopping and pecking, seeming oblivious to being hunted, until it froze, looking around and fluttering uneasily.

Dustpaw dropped lower, rocking his haunches and focusing his sapphire eyes on the bird, he had to time this one just right. He bared his teeth launched himself forwards, the bird took off, letting out an alarm call, but the apprentice sank his claws into it's back an dragging it down to the earth. He sank his teeth into it's neck, killing it.

Dustpaw carried the thrush back to where he had covered the mouse. He uncovered the mouse and picked it up as well, making his way back to where he had left the rest of the patrol.

User ImageFeatherheart sighed when no scent hit her nose. Shaking her head, she turned her gaze to look at Whisperblade and Squirrelpaw. The poor thing, she was so clumsy sometimes. Must have been a handful as a kit. She thought to herself as she then turned her gaze to Dustpaw. He was stalking away from the group. The warrior tilted her head and lifted her nose. Nothing. She growled lightly and shook her head vigorously. Looking back up, she caught sight of the tip of a fluffy tail disappearing through the undergrowth. He had a point though, maybe she would scent things farther from the group. With that in mind, Featherheart moved from the group, slowly and steadily.

The pretty ginger warrior froze in her tracks when a scent flooded her nose. Closing her eyes, she took in a deep breath. She opened her eyes and turned her head. There it was, a nice medium sized vole.
Finally. She thought to herself as she kept herself upwind of the creature until she was close enough to pounce. With a satisfied sigh, she scraped earth over her catch and crouched down again. This time the scent came a little quicker this time.

Featherheart changed direction and began to move closer towards the starling. Catching sight of the small creature, she sighed. It was much smaller than she had been hoping for, but she would take it. Anything to bring back for Stormclan. She paused two tail lengths away from the bird and closed her eyes for a moment, gathering her muscles and speed. Featherheart's head shot up when an alarm call was given. Of course, the starling had heard it too and opened it's wings. The ginger warrior let out a hiss and tore from her spot. Jumping into the air to grasp the bird before it flew too high. Landing with a thud, she blinked and looked around; wondering where the call had come from. Picking up both of her catches, she padded back to where Whisperblade and Squirrelpaw were training.

Reaching the spot, she set down her catch and licked her paw, bringing it over her face a few times.
"How'd it go Dustpaw?" Featherheart asked her apprentice curiously, eying the prey he was carrying.
