So I'm going to Anime Iowa this year for the second time, and my mom went with me last year ( I'm only fourteen years of age ). She noticed how people were selling their works in the Artist Alley, and thought I could probably work up some money to spend in the Dealer's Room, or maybe even get a little more "public attention", she thought this would be especially good becuase, "I'm even better than a lot of the artists there, and they were selling simple sketches for nearly $20."

....Quote from mom. I know I have a long way to go before I'm really GOOD. But, I'll agree that I do have some proportions down just a tad better than some of the tables I saw there...

So the thing is, I'm seriously looking into it, but I have NO idea what I would sell my work for. I plan on selling maybe some short doujinshi/ manga/ comics, definetly single-piece works ( prints ), possibly even some canvass paintings. Keep in mind though, I may only sell original pieces, because there is a possibility of the copyright rule again this year.

Some examples--
Eruka and Mizune from SOUL EATER
Kabuki version Sasori for a doujinshi I'm making
Sakura in a garden ( Click for fullview, it looks a LOT better when you can see it properly )
BLACK ★ ROCK SHOOTER ( I'm really proud of this one. Fullview, plz. )
My first time drawing Ciel Phantomhive, for a friend's birthday.
Some DeiSaso
Bellissimo Pianoforte ( A Gaia Online item. I'm still figuring out a background for this one. )
Ideas??

when selling at anime conventions like that its always a good idea to inform yourself to how much it coast to have a dealers table 3nodding I'll be going to a convention this summer as well, and just to sit at a table and sell stuff, we need to pay 70 $ (but thats because I'm with a friend who will be selling plushies and stuff as well, for normal artist selling there art work, tables, cost 40$ and thats extra from your ticket to join the convention).

I imagen tables to sell your stuff at will varie from one anime convention to another, but its something to keep in mind. Cause if your gonna sell your art work for only 3 dollars a piece, you may have a hard time breaking even with the original cost of selling stuff in a convention. And like wise if you sold your art work for 50$ you might have a hard time breaking even because people may not be willing to spend that much cash up front for one piece of art work.

So first thing I would do, is see how much it coast to sit at a dealers table. And then see how many art pieces you would need to sell to break even with the coast... anything after that would be profit 3nodding

I can almost guaranty you, you will not be allowed to sell anything copy righted unless you have a licence to sell, (because its like this any ware you go, to sell things, its the same thing for us at our convention) which for the prices they charge for a licence, I highly recommend staying away from that and sticking to original characters like you decided to do : 3

Now I can also tell you that selling prints, specially of original characters isn't easy, you might sell one or two, but I just want to warn you a head of time that this isen't easy to sell... People who usually go to conventions, go to buy stuff related to animes they already love and enjoy... which in your case could be a problem because you won't have any licences to sell stuff from animes that already exist. A possible solution I can offer is, offer prints like you originally intended, but also offer full body drawings or chibis drawings for people live. Like if someone comes to your table, offer to draw them as an anime character for 5$ or something like that : ) Or maybe a full body drawing for 10$, something like that... You might get more hits that way because people might want to get sketches of themselves. For this you can either have them pose and draw them really fast, or take a picture of them and ask them to come back in 10-15 min for your to finish your drawing.

Thank you so much for the advice!! Well, at Anime Iowa a table is normally $50, but since I'm sharing with another attendee, it will only be $25.
I expect they WILL have the copyright rule again this year, but we are allowed to set up examples of popular anime characters only for display, if we don't sell them : )
Which could also really help. If I display how I draw characters, I can also take commissions and make some money that way : )
Maybe if I publish a few of my short stories before the convention ( Which is the very end of July, by the way ), maybe my characters themselves could recieve more attention, or maybe if people became familiar with my work ( if i advertised ), I could find a little attention?? XD
Well, I doubt I could get any good number of stories done before then, none the less become popular. I'd probably be, like.. Mia Ikumi ( Author of Tokyo Mew Mew; A really great story, but it's very littleknown ), if I'm lucky | D

yea posting your stories before might help, but personaly I don't know how much it would help, since I'm guessing lots of attendees to the convention might have not see your stories before. But it can never hurt : )
