I think we should have a thread dedicated apprenticeships. Obviously not professional ones, but just general pairings between more skilled and professionally trained artist and aspiring amateur artist you want to be better.Of course it would be completely voluntary on whether you wanted to be an apprentice or teacher and who you want as your teacher or apprentice.
What do you guys think?

I think that sounds like a good idea, also I've seen on some other forums/websites, that sometimes a more skilled artist will have a workshop, usually focused on a certain aspect of art where several people can sign up and are guided through the steps of art creation.

I think its a good idea, but I'm somewhat nervous about it as well... Being an teacher is very time demanding, and for a lot of more experienced artist its not something that may interest them that much. However I know theres a lot of talented artist out there that would be willing to help as well and giving some of there time would not be an issue... but... I've also seen a lot of situations were apprentazes give up after a few lessons... which makes it for a total lost for the teacher who goes a head and prepares exercices or lessons to help the students grow.
I'd be willing to put a poll up for this though... I don't think its something we should pass up on the side, specially since I know this would interest a lot of memebers in the guild : ).. I'll add it to the list of things to consider for the new sub-forums : 3 Me and nuna will look into it. Thanks for the suggestion.

I think it's a very big commitment to be mentoring someone, and I have my doubts that everybody who thinks they're enthusiastic about the idea will be able to pull through. Also, it would be unfair to arbitrarily divide people into groups of good and bad as to who becomes a tutor and who becomes a tutee: we're all amateurs (afaik) and most would probably appreciate having someone to offer them individual attention and feedback, no matter how accomplished they appear to others. Idk.

I like how here everyone can openly comment on what they like about other's art and what they respectfully think someone should work on a little, but I don't think someone who wants this sort of pairing should be denied it.
I was once in an apprenticeship at an airbrushing shop that was really fun, but I don't know if I would be interested in an apprenticeship online (but that's just me, and again, I don't think it's a bad idea for others who may be interested).

I find the idea very appealing, but I have a >_> "gap" of the language up to certain point, talking about specific words of arts, for me is kinda simple to explain some little stuff in my first language - talking about anatomy and some line theory, but well I have a huge gap as well at technique and on other stuffs like art knowledge- hope to learn a lot or remember at least something when I go back to arts school.
BUT >_> dividing the whole guild - or some artists wouldn`t so 'fair' or appealing.
or maybe just joining them in to specific "themes" or techiniques or "tendecias" like realism, semirealism, hiperrealism, 3d, abstract, cubism, empressionism, speed paiting, oils, acrylics, watercolors (I suck at them XD), and blahblahblah!
like sahring tutorials, techniques , other artists names and so on.

Being a teacher is a lot of work, which I why I want to stress that I think this is a terrible idea unless both the teacher and student are completely consenting. I don't think anyone should be forced to teacher or be teached if they wish not to. And I think you should have the freedom to choice who you want to teach you and who you want to teach hellosara I think it's a very big commitment to be mentoring someone, and I have my doubts that everybody who thinks they're enthusiastic about the idea will be able to pull through. Idk. This is also a very good point. I think if we do set up this, it will be on an amateurish level. Obviously these won't be internship to professional careers, but more or less if you see someone willing to be a teacher with a style or skills that you admire, maybe they can teach you and help you improve on something. Not to mention it doesn't have to infer one is more talented than the other, one may just be strong than the other in a certain field. We could end up with a double teacher scenario where they teach each other their strengths to improve both of their artwork D-4mation I find the idea very appealing, but I have a >_> "gap" of the language up to certain point, talking about specific words of arts, for me is kinda simple to explain some little stuff in my first language - talking about anatomy and some line theory, but well I have a huge gap as well at technique and on other stuffs like art knowledge- hope to learn a lot or remember at least something when I go back to arts school. I do think for this to work we will need some sort of system to clarify and demonstrate styles a little easier. That way we don't have cartoonist being tutored by realism special if they have no intention of learning that. I would also like to state that I understand how some may see this as causing a division in the guild between the "good" and "bad", but I don't think that is the case. I think it will be more of anyone who wants to improve in a certain area become more skilled from someone who has knowledge in that area. This concept is intended to strengthen the guild and unite us better, not separate. So I will feel like s**t if it ends up tearing us apart, especially since this is honestly the best guild I have ever been in since I start gaia on my original account back in like 07

Actually i wouldn`t care less is I`m a student P: or anything, if I`m going to improve - everything is welcome. I think that focusing or arraging in to groups that follows some tendencies would be nice, but as always you can "fall" or try another style or experiment with other concepts, techniques and so on. Actually the basic think is realism and from that you can create, deformate or find your path up to some point. Must say that in arts nothing have been said. And would be nice to know other artists >w<

This doesn't even have to be as formal as "teacher" and "student"
The whole idea of this concept was just so that we can teach each other things we know and things others want to know.
