I'm not good at growing plants AT ALL. Im surprised my aloe plant is still alive!

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone could give me tips on how to start a little indoor garden when your room is always dark(in the winter its always cold too D smile
OR itd be even more awesome if they could start a sort of class in the guild or something.

I have been thinking about your post. As far as starting an indoor garden in the dark, there are tons of possibilities. I guess I would really just need to know what exactly you had in mind as far as a goal/ requirements. Would you like to start plants indoors that you could move outdoors later or would you like to always keep these plants indoors? Are you looking for something edible or ornamental? Are you willing to invest money in a set-up that includes things like lights or would you rather just have a potted plant or two? How big of an indoor garden do you want? How much time do you want to spend on it? Do you have pets that might try to eat/ disturb the plants? Will any small children have access to it? Once we narrow some of these things down a bit I should be able to give you some more specific advise.

As far as a guild class goes, it would be an interesting thing for our guild youtube channel if we can ever get it off of the ground. I was thinking that we could post how-to videos and encourage our fellow guildies to post video responses of how they used the information. They could then ask questions which we could try to address in the next video. We could support the videos with guides posted in the guild. This would take a lot of work; It would definitely be more than a one person job, but maybe it would encourage other people on youtube to seek out our guild to read the guides (I think bringing in people from youtube to our guild was in the other thread?) What do you think? Did you have something different in mind?

I think the youtube idea is absolutely brilliant. But yes, it would take a lot of work and several people working on it at least.

As for my garden idea, I'd very much prefer edibles, but my dad smokes inside, and I wouldn't mind ornamental to even clean up the air in my room.

As to a lot of my money going to college, I don't have very much money to spare on other things, but my dad has one of those areo gardens, but he never uses it anymore, and normal lamps are cheap, I could get a lamp like this

I can't sleep with any light on, so when I go to bed, the light would have to go off(unless its cold, I guess I could make a sort of tent with dark fabric or move it in my closet? I dunno).

We have one dog, but my room is almost always closed, when it's open, I'm in the room.

As for time, I am usually pressed for time in the evenings, but I don't mind sacrificing morning internet time to work on it(about an hour's worth) because I can do nearly anything except for homework on my cell, but I work on homework in the evening. razz

As for how much space, I don't have a very big room. I have deskspace shelve thiniges I can work with through, but they can't support more than 20 pounds each, I think. About 1foot but 1 1/2 feet. but two separate shelves. And those are actually in the most well lit part of my room, but its definitely indirect lighting. I'll have to post a picture.

I will be working on some guides to add, but this will help you get started.

I would start with something that is 1) easy, 2) can be kept inside on a permanent basis, and 3) needs very little light since it will be inside and you want to avoid the cost of lighting (you may not need additional lighting anyway if you have a bright area.)

I have a guide on plants which remove indoor air pollution posted in Neonascence which will help you narrow down the list of potential plants since you mentioned that you were interested in eliminating pollution. Two of the plants which are low-light and very easy to care for which I remember being on the list are pothos ivy and spathyphyllum (peace lily.) Pothos ivy is not toxic if ingested by animals. I can't remember if peace lilies are or not, but there is a link to a list of toxic plants in the guide as well. All of these plants are ornamental- it will take me some time to put together some guides on edibles but I'll start working on them.

Any more thoughts/ questions/ opinions please post biggrin

And since this will be up fairly high, the dog won't be able to reach it unless he climbs on my bed then my desk, but he'd sooner snatch a candy cane from there xD

Thanks! i'll get working on em! smile (im pretty busy atm, but i'll get on it soon as i cans. :3 )
