Basic Information

The Mk. 25 Grenade Launcher is a caseless semi-automatic weapon which is fed through stacked rounds in the container before the barrel. Unlike conventional weapons, the Mk. 25 does not use a traditional firing system in which a bolt or hammer is involved, and instead the powders in the rounds are ignited using electricity.

The firing system is based off of Metal Storm caseless stacked technology, and closely resembles that of the 40mm x 46mm 3GL.

The advantage of the weapon system is great compared to a single shot 40mm grenade launcher, both being smaller and lighter weight, allowing multiple rounds to be fired, and having a much longer range. While the 40mm x 46mm grenade round is much more powerful than the 25 x 40mm grenade, due to the sheer volume of fire allowed by the 25mm x 40mm grenade system, and the ability for the weapon to use new advanced explosives and techniques, the 25mm x 40mm more than compensates for it's lack of power.

While the weapon only has a 7.25 inch barrel, this usually limiting the accuracy and range of the weapon, the firing system allows the weapon to be much more accurate than it ordinary would. As well, the barrel is polygonal, drastically increasing the muzzle velocity of the weapon to levels that an ordinary smooth bore weapon would provide.
