I will forgive but I won't forget

Just saying, my band hasn't had a guy in our guard since...97 or 98. It's 2010. It's kinda sad. I just wanna know, is there anyone else who has this problem? And if so, any tips on trying to get some guys to join?

And I hope you know, you've lost my respect.

I'm the first guy on Guard in my high school. (It's also a very old school). I don't think you can make a guy want to join though. Most of us see it as girls only which doesn't help when your whole team is 20 girls sweatdrop

I'm not sure if my band has ever had any guy color guard before in the past, but there's two of the guys from my section that I think should try out. They are really very good at the flags. I would try, but I might break something... sweatdrop

We had an awesome flamer in the past and this year we have a straight guy. He's the JV Captain. 4laugh Plus we have a gay head director, a gay JV director, and about three other staff members (not including the flamer that used to be in guard and now helps us out as a staff member) that i have no clue about!

for recruitment, get guys in band. pref. juniors so when they have more time their senior year, and they're not immature freshmen, they join. anyways, you have to try to teach them rifle. sometimes they're naturals, sometimes they suck really bad. when they wanna give up on rifle ("cuz it hurts! crying ") give 'em a flag.
thats what we're doing...except the 2 guys are both seniors, and our guard is a class, so they can't change their schedule...but if it doesn't work, its still amusing in the meantime whee

i have a guy on my guard. one of thee most straightest guys ever. he's also like a class clown, but when it comes down to performing he is amazing. he used to be in water polo but he switched to guard because my friend told him he should. and he did. he became the star of last year's show. i think once you get one guy you can get more guys. guys are the best guard performers in my opinion.

We've had a couple in recent years, but it's predominantly girls. We're getting our first majorette (to my knowledge) next year though! =D

One was a clarinet player that switched to guard and is now in guard at college. One was predominantly guard, but he quit. One was a percussionist that switched to Winterguard during concert season, but was the drum major as well. One's a sax player that just does Winterguard (during field, he marches). I believe there'll be another Winterguard boy; he plays flute. There's been other boys interested who've never done it though.

Joooooooordan, you can always tell them they can play with rifles and look at girls wearing short-shorts and skin-tight uniforms all the time. =P Haha!

There's three guys in the guard in my marching band. Two of them are straight though I'm not sure about the third one XD

We had one senior guy join last year. Very gay. Then we've got a guy transferring from band to guard next year (very bi). both of them are extremely determined, even more than the girls, really. Dylan (the first guy) is a guard instructor now and he was in guard for only one year! I like it when guys join, it changes things up a bit. Sometimes 40 girls altogether can be toooo much.

It's true, most guys in Guard are gay (Like me! c: ). And it's also true that guys in Guard are usually better than girls. It's cause it's soooo dominated by women, we feel the need to work harder to prove ourselves. I might be captain next year. w00t.
As for recruiting, try your friends. Make Guard seem like the bee's knees. "It's really cool, I wish I could do it but I'm not good enough..." etc.? I dunno. Make it seem like a challenge. And try SHOWING your friends videos of AWESOME Winter Guards (Fantasia does amazing things and always has a few guys.) Or even Drum and Bugle Corps. I think it was the Blue Coats who had a featured guy in their Guard a few years back? He was epic.
Guys in Guard usually get featured, too. Just sayin'. I'm the first guy in my school's Guard in a few years, and I'm trying to make it seem cool. (It's working.)

Hope any of that was helpful. ^ - ^
