I get the magikarp and zubat, but why wouldn't you want a Gyarados or a geodude?

Yes and no.
Yes, Black and White will not feature any Pokemon from the previous generation until after the main story (Elite Four).
No, that doesn't mean there won't be any "I'm everywhere" Pokemon. They'll just be only 5th gen "I'm everywhere" Pokemon, like maybe Minezumi, Yooterii, and Mamepato.
