Anyone else pissed off by this? I'm super pissed and annoyed at the ignorance of some people.
First of all, it's not even a mosque. And second, it's TWO BLOCKS from ground zero.

You guys are probably aware of this, but please do anything you can to educate people and to stop people from calling it "the ground zero mosque" because it's incorrect.

it is an Islamic Recreational Center with a Mosque on the second floor... i agree that saying "mega-mosque" is incorrect... but Mosque is still not incorrect.

however, the issue on it's debate pisses me off. both sides in fact have pissed me off royally. yes, BOTH sides! i feel that there was a definite disconnect with the main proclaimed goal once they met with resistance, as though they didn't see it coming. >.> could they realy be that naieve to think that they wouldn't be hated on?

i support their right to build it. that is their right, and i will campaign for upholding their 1st Amendment rights, as well as any other American Rights.

but i am also sympathetic to the whole 9/11 deal, and think that they do need to realize that not everyone who opposes this does so out of racism, islamaphobia, or bigotry.

From what I was aware, I heard it was just a room meant for Muslim prayer. A mosque is just a building, specifically only made for prayer. If it were truly a mosque the whole thing would have only been for prayer. Besides, it welcomes people from ALL religions.

And of course they thought they would be hated on because people are ignorant. But what made it worse was the news purposefully calling it Ground Zero Mosque. If people actually knew what it was about, having a swimming pool (which new york desperately needs), and such, then I will assure you not as many people would have apposed it. But the problem is people are getting the wrong information. This is all politics. Upcoming elections coming up, they saw this as an excuse and used it so they can start pointing fingers at people calling them Muslim so no one will vote for them and they get all the votes. Why do you think more people think Obama is Muslim now? Which I think is ridiculous by the way.

Also acting as if Muslims weren't killed in 9/11, which many were.

indeed, one of the many points i make is that Muslims died in the Trade Center as well, and that Muslims are Americans too.

but while this is political, it's not only political, there is in fact a social aspect to it that is purely out of Respect to People.

i know i was scared when 9/11 happened. i treat that date as a Memorial Day, and do feel that NOTHING should be built on the spot itself.

and it wasn't the news that called it ground zero... it was the far right-wing bigots. and fox news (and CNN i think as well) have picked up on it, because fox news is extremely right-wing. it's backing up that rediculous tea party movement!

MSNBC made the constant reminders that the proposed building site is two blocks away.

what i am saying is, i'm on the side that is defending the american rights that these Muslims have, including their right to build this building, but that i am just as pissed off at them for their lack of respect as i am at the racists and islamaphobes for their bigotry.

How is it lack of respect? Do you even know that they are building a memorial for 9/11 inside the building? See, people do not know all the facts. I mean people complain that two blocks is too close and it's insensitive. Ok then, how far do they have to build it to be sensitive? Really? That's not an excuse. Plus the fact that there are hundreds of strip clubs, porn stores and bars RIGHT next to ground zero. Like right on the same block and in front of the site. So don't talk about "respect". Also if it were a church, synagogue, Buddhist temple no body would have been opposing it. Or even if it were a MALL!!! Americans love malls and they wouldn't care if it were on ground zero. It's been 10 years now, I doubt they care that much. I'm pretty sure it's ALL politics.

And yeah, FOX news pisses me off the most. They were even claiming that a person can't be Muslim and an American citizen at the same time. Wtf!!

How about OUR respect? Muslims don't get any respect. Those so-called "Muslims" killed 3000 people on 9/11. But the American army killed thousands and thousands in Iraq and now in Afghanistan. How is that fair? Why doesn't anyone see that?

ok, chill your ******** jets, hotshot. evil don't go ripping my head off like that, and telling me i am not considering the other side, or that i don't understand Respect!

it isn't the building that i find disrespectful. lemme now explain.

these Muslims said that the reason for building this Center was to try to bridge a gap between Muslims and non-muslim americans. i LOVE that! i support that 100%. but i also knew that the idea was naieve, and that it would be met with paranoid hatred.

what i find disrespectful, is that instead of trying to talk it out with anyone, they are showing an equally hostile front against not only the haters, but also the people who just feel hurt and offended by the idea of that being there. instead of continuing to pursue the original goal of patriotic brotherhood, they are hyping up the argument, and even saying that anyone who wants to come to a peaceful resolution instead of an ultimatum isn't helping! it's ******** bullshit, and it pisses me off!

and i don't think ANYTHING should be built ON ground zero itself, be it harmless or not, except maybe a memorial. NOTHING ESLE! and i certainly don't like how close those strip-joints and such are to it either.

i understand that the opposers are being hypocrites, i do, and i hate that as much as you do. but i am NOT about to take s**t from anyone, no matter WHAT race, religion, culture, beliefs, or position in the argument is. b***h at me i'll b***h right back. but everything i do i do in pursuit of my goal.
