I heard a song at a reni-faire once "Roll me over in the clover" The song was in four females were talking how the fighter-types could , "roll me over in the clover, lay me down, and do it again" Great song don't know the lyrics.
Another song I heard was simply called "Boozin'" but all the men though what was being said was "Boobs and booze"

sweatdrop I will try and get the lyrics to both.....

Baretts Raiders, The Scotsman, The moose song. What do you mean no drinking songs? (just because you don't sing about drinking doesn't mean its not a drinking song)

It doesn't? I can't sing the Moose song to well when I am sober yet get me drunk and I can hit every word... which may or may not be a good thing biggrin

Joe Bethancourt is responsible for some of my favorite war songs. I'll post a few, but I'll keep myself from posting everything he's ever written.

Serious Steal

Well our girlfriends went and left us cold
In the middle of Estrella war
They left us stranded in the middle of a field
And we thought it a crashing bore

We had nothing with us but what we'd brought,
Our cars and our camping gear
A box of condoms and some toys
And a warm six-pack of beer

[chorus]
So grab your pants, find your socks,
Brush your teeth with a comb
If you can't get laid at Estrella war
You might as well go on home!

So we went back to our lonely camp
And we spent a horny night
Then we all lined up at the showers and
We washed in the morning light

We dressed up in our finest clothes,
Our swords and sheaths at hand,
And we went off hunting maidenheads,
A happy, horny band.

[chorus]

The very first lady that we found,
She was a duchess bold
She said she had no maidenhead,
But her camp was down the road

So we took her back to her jolly old camp
Her maidenhead to find
She gave her all to help our search
From vespers to compline!

[chorus]

The very next camp that we came to
The ladies had gone mad
Their lords had joined blue feather
And that was all they had

Our armor proved half bullet-proof,
Our weapons worked as well
Their lords, they thanked us long and loud
For saving them from hell

[chorus]

Camp by camp we worked our way
Just to see who we could lay
The legends that we left behind
Were a roman holiday

For now the ladies seek us out
To take their troubles on
To be their bed-mates through the night
When 'er their lords are gone

[chorus]

How can we not take up this task
To serve our ladies' need?
How can we leave them all alone
When we hear them beg and plead?

We spent the time at war in bed
We had 'em by threes and fives
We've gotta say, this was a war...
We'd hoped for all our lives!

[chorus]

Aten Man
(Tune: "Irish Soldier Laddie")

Will you stand in the van like a true Aten man,
To hold the line for kingdom and for crown?
Will you fight and never yeild, on Estrella's battlefield?
For today's the day we're taken Caid down!

As I stood in a crowd I saw a valiant laddie walkin'
With his armor and his sword down a quiet country lane
He smiled and he waved, and he bespoke me truely,
And beckoned and he called to me my name:

Will you stand in the van like a true midrealm man,
To hold the line for kingdom and for crown?
Will you fight and never yeild on a Pennsic battlefield?
For today's the day we take the East realm down!

On a quiet village street stood a bowman, strong and hearty
As he bade a fond fairwell to his pretty peasant lass
And his eyes were flashin bright as he bent his head and kissed her
And these words he said, benieth the partin' glass:

Will you stand in the van like a true Western man
And hold the line, for kingdom and for crown?
Will you fight and never yeild on Estrella's battlefield,
For today's the day we're takin An Tir down!

Came a knight upon his steed, with his squires ridin after
With his pennon and his lance and his shinin' silver mail
With his lady's favor hangin' from his belt of leather,
And passin' close he smiled and bade me "Hail!"

Will you stand in the van like a Caid fighting man
And hold the line for kingdom and for crown?
Will you fight and never yield on Estrella's battlefield
For today's the day we're takin' Aten down!

In a sunny castle hall, with her minstrels and her maidens,
Stood a lady, strong and proud, with a fire in her eyes
"If my king is off to war, what can I but fight beside him?"
And she raised her sword and shouted to the sky,

Will you stand in the van like a true Eastern man
And hold the line for kingdom and for crown?
Will you fight and never yeild on a Pennsic battlefield,
For today's the day we take the Middle down!

From city and from township, from barony and marches,
Come the folk of our fair land with a fire in their eyes
Knights and Masters, Men-at-Arms, Lords and Ladies fit for battle,
And a hundred thousand others 'neith the sky

Will you stand in the van like a true aten man
And hold the line for kingdom and for crown
Will you fight and never yeild on Estrella's battlefield
For today's the day we're takin Caid down!

And one by Leslie Fish, because I think everyone should know this song.
True Story

As I was out walkin, expectin no harm
Two big FBI men grabbed me by the arm
Dragged me into a cellar, shone lights in my eyes
Demandin true answers without any lies
About a new threat to good patriotism,
This society for creative anarchism!

I said, they're just

[chorus]
Harmless historical nuts
Who wear boiler plate on their butts
Who dress up in clothes from the twelfth century
To bash on each other with sticks and debris
And make up the world's largest private army
Harmless historical nuts!

I answered, "Tis true, to that club I belong,
But pardon me, gentlefolk, you've spelled the name wrong.
Now I swear by the cross and the host and the prism,
That last word is actually 'anachronism.'
It just means 'outdated': pray why don't you look
In Sir Mirriam Webster's reliable book?"

It says we're just

[chorus]

When finally persuaded to look up the word
They blushed and they winched, loud enough to be heard
They hastily set me back out on the street
But I knew, twasn't over, and once more we'd meet
So I passed on the warning to realms far and near
To give the impression for all the next year

That we're just

[chorus]

And soon enough, four infiltraters came in
All looking for politics, sniffing for sin
Three went away again, scratching their heads
But the fourth quit his job and turned stick-jock instead
He's won coronets, he's in love with the sport
And we still have a copy of his last report

It says we're just

[chorus 2x]

I suppose this would be a drinking song. Unfortunately I can't remember the tune that goes with it, I remember hearing it many times but when I try to sing it my mind totally blanks. It's really starting to annoy me since I love the song.

Lifeblood--A Viking Drinking Song
tune/lyrics Karen Unrein Kahan

Drink, for the wind blows cold and
Drink for The Wolf runs free.
Drink to the ships with sails like wings and
Drink to the storm-tossed seas.

Drink to the lasting nights
and those who warm our beds.
Drink to the mead that warms our hearts
and the cold that clears our head.

Drink to the Allfather's Eye
for Odin's sons are we.
Drink to the World-Tree where he hung
and the Runes of Mystery.

Drink to the truth of steel
and blood that falls like rain.
Drink to Valhalla's golden walls
and to our kinsmen, slain.

Drink to the Glory-field
where a man embraces death, and
thank the gods that we live at all
with our joyous dying breath!

Drink for the wind blows cold and
Drink for the Wolf runs free
Drink to the ships with the sails like wings
for Odin's sons are we!

Who wrote that song and where might I find someone who knows the tune ? I'd much like to add it to my bard-in-a-book (written lyrics, for I've not a mind for words).

The writer is listed at the top of the song, Karen Unrein Kahan. As for where you might find someone who knows the tune, I know of at least one person who knows it, she camps with Rockhaven at Warriors and Warlords every year. That's still a ways off but if it's an event you go to you could ask at the bardic circle there. Other then her, if you bring the lyrics to bardic circles at other events you may find someone who knows it, I'm not sure. I guess I'm not really the person to ask about songs, I'm just trying to learn this one because I really like it.

Well, I don't know any drinking songs, and I don't know enough war songs to pick a favorite, but I'll post the lyrics to one or two...

The Song of Roland

The fairest flower of chivalry to bloom in all the land,
and the noblest of all the knights of Charlemagne.

Was Roland, Roland, King Charles' sister's son.
Reknowned through all the Frankish lands for battles you have won.
In council hear ye Ganelon make plea to go to war,
To aid the rebel Serecens against their rightfull lords.

Roland, Roland, you call this plan illmade,
But nonetheless does Charlemagne agree to give them aid.
Then Ganelon requests you for the post most perilous,
And willingly do you accept, as honor deems you must.

Roland, Roland, the Red Guard you command,
With Oliver, your loyal friend, to ride at your right hand,
But at the Vale of Renceval, you know your doom is nigh,
the Serecens, they hold the pass, and will not let you by.

Roland, Roland, sound your mighty horn,
And try to call the men back who rode out just yestermorn!
The King has heard your call afar, but Ganelon says, "Ney!
'Tis only our young Roland out a'hunting on this day!"

Roland, Roland, sound your horn again,
As fierce the battle rages through the valley and the glen.
Again the King has heard your call, again the traitor lies!
And none will come to aid you, since your peril he denies!

Roland, Roland, sound your final blast,
As one by one your men-at-arms die fighting at the pass!
And at the last is Oliver, by swordsmen overthrown!
And ye of all the Frankish hosts now stand alone!

Roland, Roland, oh, black the day you died,
Your comrades slain around you and your sword down by your side.
They found you on the hilltop with your face turned toward the foe,
And never has there been a day of such great woe.

Roland, Roland, your name will live in song,
Whenever brave men take up arms to right a mighty wrong!
The fairest flower of chivalry to bloom in all the land,
And the noblest of all the knights of Charlemagne!

Yeah... I've another one, but I don't know all the words, and I can't remember what it's called, so I can't look them up... Oh, and about Roland, I apologize for any spelling errors, or anything; I just kinda... typed it from memory just now... sweatdrop

i love The March Of Cambreadth by Heather Alexander...

Axes flash, broadsword swing,
Shining armour's piercing ring
Horses run with polished shield,
Fight Those Bastards till They Yield
Midnight mare and blood red roan,
Fight to Keep this Land Your Own
Sound the horn and call the cry,
How Many of Them Can We Make Die!

Follow orders as you're told,
Make Their Yellow Blood Run Cold
Fight until you die or drop,
A Force Like Ours is Hard to Stop
Close your mind to stress and pain,
Fight till You're No Longer Sane
Let not one damn cur pass by,
How Many of Them Can We Make Die!

Guard your women and children well,
Send These Bastards Back to Hell
We'll teach them the ways of war,
They Won't Come Here Any More
Use your shield and use your head,
Fight till Every One is Dead
Raise the flag up to the sky,
How Many of Them Can We Make Die!

Dawn has broke, the time has come,
Move Your Feet to a Marching Drum
We'll win the war and pay the toll,
We'll Fight as One in Heart and Soul
Midnight mare and blood red roan,
Fight to Keep this Land Your Own
Sound the horn and call the cry,
How Many of Them Can We Make Die!

hehe... sneaky way to promote my war slide show... i already posted it in the links page... but i will put it here too..
