I can only understand Romanji, is that bad?

Well yes it is actually. The more you study into japanese the more kanji and furigana you'll see and not knowing it makes it mad.
Google translations are never what they actually mean, usually it's some plot To make us think it's right.

I doubt myself whenever I talk in Japanese, so I go to google translate to see if I'm somewhat on the right path of saying something.
Babylon is a slightly better translator, though I use rikaichan, a firefox add-on, for kanji I've yet to learn.

And like Cassandra said, only reading romaji is pretty bad.

Learning Hiragana and Katakana would be highly benificial. You should take the time to learn them. There are many study guides out there.

You could learn hiragana and katakana in a week if you really tried.
I think they're easier to memorize if you learn to write them too.
There are countless sites that can teach you stroke order.
I'd practice just a few at a time, and be sure to really get them down.

the more you learn the easier and better it is to read into interesting Japanese things... Its not that hard if you really want to learn. There is some really nice stuff at your local bookstore that you could use to learn and its not that expensive either. I can't say I'm a pro at kana but, I've been learning slowly and steadily with some really neat books. 3nodding

Hm, I don't think it's that bad if you can actually differentiate certain words ((i.e. Kai, which could mean "spin", "ocean" or "to meet")). But learning Hiragana, Katakana & Kanji will make your life SO much easier.

Actually Romaji is rarely spoken in Japan, no one will understand you because Romaji is too general. And try not to use translators especially the most used google. It doesn't translate properly, even simple words such as kuruma, "car" it won't translate.
