Basic Information
The weapon is essentially an XM500 refitted to fire .408 round. While the round is much weaker and has a significantly reduced power output compared to the .50 BMG round, it hopes to offer a lighter, lower recoil semi-automatic squad designated marksmen weapon, that both pushes the range and power of the squad. While not the most ideal round for infantry applications, it does allow for an increase in energy and range over standard .308 and 7.62mm x 51mm NATO rounds, allow the .408 is basically only an anti-soft target round.
