Has anyone heard of harrisons dream? Like only a couple highschool bands have ever played it and a scarse amount of college bands have played it. We played it 2 years ago and it was freaking awsome. It freaking got up to quarternote=192. Now they have been realeaseing watered down versions and ive even seen it in a marching show. Never as good as the original. We aslo played a kinda bit challengeing peice last year called fantasy variations. But now we are playing toccata and fugue, polka and fugue and some other stuff for a gaint organ concert and its friggen hard.

We played a song called Symphonic Dance No.3. It was one of the BEST songs I ever played. But it was also the hardest song I've ever played.

the Coast Guard song is hard, at least for woodwinds, its all chromatic runs and trills and trembles, etc. for brass its alright, but I like the way it sounds. In the Spring time is hard as well, it is 12 min. long and we are playing it for Judications. Don't ever play that song, unless you want to play forever(that is what makes it hard)

Last year, when i was in Symphonic band, we played two songs that were above our level-Vesuvius (has like 10 different time signitures and other crazy stuff) and Candide Suite (5 different songs and several key signitures-one of them was 2 or 3 sharps, another had several flats, but it was awesome)
This year we are playing this really technical song called american faces, it goes really fast. A cresent still abides looks easy, but it is so slow that it makes it the most difficult of the song.
Our marching show this year was really hard, especially our closer it had hard drill going at 190 on Dr. Beat. AHHHHHHH, but i got good calf muscles from it blaugh

looking back on it, the "hardest" song I ever recall playing was our marching band closer... but once I got used to all the 16th note runs it was relatively easy... our concert band songs are 8not* really hard - "four dance episodes," "of honor and valor eternal," "echoes," (which is so slow it's annoying, butit sounds good!), "river valley celebration" yeah, they're easy

SOUSA CAN BURN!!! STARS AND STRIPS FOREVER!!!! I swear that man must have been on crack when he wrote the clarinet parts. On third the notes were flying above the bar line.

I have to agree...we were playing some of his marches--sightreading, may I add, and then notes were like in altissimo range. Sheesh. Clarinetest here too.
I just heard Vesuvius and Overture for Candide this weekend...well, at least the first one. I was in clinic during the second one, darn.
I won't post my hardest peice, because I might look like a wimp. Besides, I can't really pick. Hmm...

Candide Suite sounds familiar. I think we might have played that a long time ago.

Last year we played vesuvius! We also played Watchman, Tell Us of The Night by Mark Camphouse. That was very beautiful, but it took a lot out of you. Once you hear the story behind the music, you feel the emotion take all your energy while playing. That was what made it hard. Then we also played Sketches on a Tudor Psalm by Fisher Tull. That seemed rather difficult for me...(was my freshmen year)

This year, we are doing Southern Harmony. MAN, I needed to practice that every night. Breath it, eat it, drink it...but it was worth it! biggrin

We plaied Arminian Dances last year. That's hard. it's like 18 minutes long and changes styles and keys so many times and the ending is so fast....it's annoying. But, it had a few little bassoon bits thrown in there so that pleased me.

I'm not really sure, but I remember having a Solo in this song called "Pictures of Spain" and it was like... " Zomg.. DX" because, it was a marching solo. I wanted to die on the field after hitting that high C.
