۞ - - - - - Ink & Bugs - - - - - ۞

۞ - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ۞

۞ - What is Ink? - ۞

Simply put, ink is the base of tattoos or dyes that is made from crushed insects. It can be used to make store-available tattoos, to dye the wrappers of boquets purchased from Rina, to create body dyes, or it can be sold for profit as it is freely available through different means throughout Gaia. Many users quest inks to obtain rare or expensive tattoos or simply to hoard them.

Ink does not have MANY uses, but it is a stepping stone to better items and accessories.

۞ - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ۞

۞ -
Obtaining Ink - ۞

There are many methods available to obtain ink freely as well as faster methods that involve paying for it.

One method is to check your daily chance each and every day. Ink is a common prize, but you won't find much of the same color here and collecting will be slow and based largely on luck. You won't log in every day and find white ink. This should be more of a supplemental, passive means of obtaining ink as opposed to your main means of collecting- if you're trying to get a body dye, you would never reach your goal through daily chance alone.

The most traditional means of crafting ink is through bugs.

Yes, bugs.

I'll cover those in a bit more detail below as far as how to find them and what bugs will become what type of ink. You'll need 50 bugs of same color or one 'special' bug to make an ink vial.

If making your own ink, be aware that some inks can not easily be made with bugs. You have to make them with other inks. See the reference section below for more information; as an example, to make a bottle of purple ink, you must combine red and blue.

The next method of obtaining ink freely is to quest it. Many of us have seen users with 'Questing (color) ink!' in their signatures. There's no guarantee that this will actually convince people to send you their unwanted ink, but it will alert users that you are looking. You can also create quest threads for inks. Many users quest inks, flowers, and trash items at the same time. Because the inks are slightly more expensive, they will likely come in slower.

Then of course, the fastest method of obtaining ink is to purchase them from the marketplace. This can require quite a bit of gold depending on what color you are after. Black, White, and Purple ink will cost you more than brown. Prices will vary depending on the state of the Gaia Marketplace, so don't be surprized if you find some good deals on one day and then have to pay through the nose the next.

You can also set up purchase threads in the exchange forum to see if anyone will give you a deal or discount or sell you a large amount all at once. If making a large purchase, be sure check what you're paying per ink bottle. You can do this by taking the amount of the asking price and dividing by the number of bottles.

For example; brown ink usually sells for about 5g per unit. You want to buy 100 bottles and the asking price is 2000g. Take 2000 divided by 100, and it comes out to 20g per ink bottle. That's a rip off unless you want to pay extra for the convenience of getting it RIGHT NOW as opposed to having to buy individual bottles at the marketplace.

۞ - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ۞

۞ -
Bugs - ۞

Bugs are an essential part of making ink. Every ink bottle was made by bugs (unless granted by Daily Chance) so you'll need quite a lot of these if you want to make the ink yourself.

To make most ink bottles, you'll need 50 of one type of bug. There are some special insects (such as the Rhino Beetle) that can make an ink bottle on their own.

Bugs can be bartered, traded, purchased, or quested. The most common method of obtaining bugs is to purchase a Bug Net from Rina's flower shop, and go catch them in Gaia Towns. They will appear on screen like flowers or trash, and you simply get near them and click to capture. Because they move (some of them very quickly) they are a bit more difficult to pick up than the stationary items on screen.

There are special bugs that appear rarely; such as the Purple Fly, Rhino Beetle, or Golden Legs. These can be used to make an ink bottle or sold for more than standard bugs.

۞ - - - - - Tattoos - - - - - ۞

۞ - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ۞

۞ - What are They? - ۞

A tattoo on Gaia, unlike in real life, is temporary. Once you purchase it, it will be like a regular item that can be equipped and removed at will. This gives you the option to have many different styles and colors which can be used to spruce up any outfit or style you choose to wear.

Most tattoos can be purchased from Devon at Skin Tyte. Some are available only through zOMG crafting, and some have been released as part of site events that are no longer available and can only be purchased in the marketplace.

۞ - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ۞

۞ -
How to Obtain - ۞

Getting tattoos is easy. For standard tattoos, simply ensure that you have the required ink and gold and then go to the 'Buy Tattoos' option in Skin Tyte. You will see all options available to you, simply select the tattoo of your choice and select it. You will be asked to confirm, and then the gold and ink needed will be subtracted from your inventory and replaced with the tattoo. The requirements differ for each tattoo, and unfortunately there are too many for me to list here along with all of their requirements.

To see all tattoos and their price in gold and ink, check out TekTek! They have a nifty list of tattoos, and clicking on the tattoos will tell you what is needed to make them.
Click here to go there right away!

To make a tattoo in zOMG, you first need the required recipe and materials. You can then visit Nicolae at Back Alley Bargains. There is a 'Make Recipes' option at the bottom that will allow you to create these unique tattoos.

Currently available through this means are the Blue Alien Tattoo, the Green Alien Tattoo, the Pink Alien Tattoo, the Sailor Anchor Tattoo, and the Sailor's Mermaid Tattoo.

Gaia will sometimes release tattoos as part of an event that are only obtainable for a limited amount of time and can only be purchased afterward in the marketplace. An example of this is the Black Spider Back Tattoo.

Several other items, such as Jinxis Charm or Inari's Beads will contain tattoos or tattoo-like poses.

۞ - - - - - Body Dyes & Special Skins - - - - - ۞

۞ - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ۞

۞ - Body Dye - ۞

A body dye is a full body tattoo. They are extremely expensive to purchase through the marketplace, and time consuming to craft on your own. The price depends on the value of the ink used- rarer ink (such as white) will yield a far more expensive body dye.

Here in an example of the finished result:
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

This example utilized the gray body dye.

To create a body dye tattoo, you must trade Devon 20,000 gold and 500 of the desired color of ink.

The exceptions to this are White and Black which cost 500 ink and 21,000 gold each; and Gray, which costs 21,000 gold and 250 Black & 250 White inks.

۞ - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ۞

۞ -
Special Skins - ۞

In addition to the body dyes, there are skins available through items that are also available to change the way your base will look. While not tattoos, I thought I would touch on some of these also as some of them are (currently) less expensive than the body dyes themselves.

Please be advised that prices are current as of the time this guide was written or updated- they may have changed between then and when you read this. Always be sure to check the marketplace before planning any large purchases.

If you're looking for a white skin but the body dye is outside of your price range, try Masterpieces. They will change your eyes, but this can be remedied by either wearing a hat or mask that covers the eyes or by using later generation contacts. Earlier eye items, such as the Oculus Magica, will unequip this skin This has been fixed- all (or most) contacts will now work with Masterpieces.

You can also try other things such as the Imaginary Friend or Yemayas Pearl.

At the time this was posted, the Masterpieces costs approximately 75k, Imaginary Friend 950k, Yemayas Pearl 200k, and the white dye about 10 mil.

Padmavatis Lotus (Currently about 700k) comes with several skins in different colors.

You can also purchase the potions to change your race at Skin Tyte to obtain vampire, drow, and various other skins. These require another potion to change back.

۞ - - - - - Making a Tattoo: A Recap - - - - - ۞

۞ - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ۞

۞ - Put It All Together - ۞

This will just be a recap of the steps required to create your final product for those looking for a quick step-by-step resource to refer to.

Step 1: If making your own ink, ensure that you have the gold and bugs to exchange. If making rarer ink, ensure that you have the ink required to mix into the new ink pot.

To exchange bugs, go to Durem Depot and click on Bug Exchange below Moira. To mix ink, go to Skin Tyte and click Buy Tattoos under Devon and Natasha. The ink will appear at the bottom below any tattoos you can craft.

If crafting through zOMG, ensure you have the materials, gold, and recipe.

Step 2: If using ink, go to Skin Tyte and click Buy Tattoos. All available options will appear to you. If you do not see a tattoo, it means that you do not meet the requirements to purchase it.

If crafting, go to Back Alley Bargains and click Make Recipe under Nicolae.

Step 3: Select the item you wish to create, review the requirements and confirm when prompted.

Step 4: Rejoice- you are now done!
