General Discussion is a place for, as the name suggests, general conversations on a variety of topics. ChatterBox is like a kitchen sink. If it can't go anywhere else, it usually goes there. It's largely spam and threads that are designed to be short- you'll be lucky if you come across anything serious or well thought out there. It's more about quick entertainment, less about returning to the same thread twice.
Becoming 'known' usually takes a long time. Basically, you just need to be around until people start recognizing you right away. For this to happen, of course, they need to see you. Very few users actually obtain 'Promy' status, and then as the userbase changes, said status is easily lost. It's not really anything to aspire to; it just happens.
♦ ♣ ♥ ♠ Or you could try being an epic troll. Ways of doing this are still very hard though. If you can get a troll topic to more than 20 pages, that's pretty epic as usually mods will lock those topics quickly when they become to popular. Another way to be epic is to troll without trolling so to speak. That way you can't be banned/have your topic closed but you can still troll. Doing this is very difficult as you need to really understand the art of trolling and that everything is trolling. It's just a matter of knowing how to make it seem like it's not trolling. In any case, from my experience becoming known in those forums is not a good thing at all. Becoming well known in a forum such as Site Feedback or Questions and Assistance is something that is much more difficult. Don't get me wrong, becoming known period is difficult. It's just more admirable to become known in SF or Q&A to me.
