Y'know, I was considering starting a thread like this, too. I'm a lazy person and I've always just tossed all of my laundry together in one load. I've never once in my life separated by color. XD
So obviously, I realize that my laundry habits will have to change if I'm to start wearing lolita... In addition to this thread topic, does anyone have a favorite detergent brand or general cleaning tips to share? xd
Basically all I can suggest is to wash keep pinks and reds separate from everything else (for some reason those colors seem to bleed more than others), have a separate load for darks (navy, black, dark brown), and white & cream items COMPLETELY on their own.
So I know all the basic common sensical things, but it's just a matter of getting over my laziness and actually doing those separate loads. xd

Most of them you can machine wash on gentle in a large sweater bag or handwash in cold water. Mostly, go by the feel of the materials as to which would be better.
Some prints may run in water, however, so you'll want to test that with a wash rag, first.
If the piece is cotton, iron it. If it's got a print, turn it inside out and iron it on a low setting.

Fabulous question! I have a BL dress too, so it's good to know. I'd wash it on a cold, gentle cycle. Then, I'd let it hang dry. Iron if needed, but on a very low setting due to their lace.
