So after thinking about it for a bit, I decided I wanted to lolita-fy my shoes. I have plain black Converse. Everyone knows what they look like, I assume. xD
I already posted this elsewhere, but I think another place full of helpful lolitas could in no way be bad. So any suggestions are helpful! :3
My problems: I just have no idea what to do to them. There's just too many possibilities and I'm the most indecisive thing alive (I'm a Libra DX)
I know converse aren't exactly the most elegant shoes on the planet. But currently, aside from my boots, they're all I have. I wear them everywhere. I just kinda want them to match my clothes (I wear lolita almost daily)
I have limited supplies atm. Pretty much: 1 spool Gingham ribbon 2 spare bows on safety pins Black sharpies I can steal from people 4 dollars
Again any suggestions would be lovely. Thank you in advance. :3

Lolita converse? I can honestly say that is an interesting prospect. It might be an interesting addition to certain outfits, I suppose what one would do would be to replace the laces with ribbon and sew lace along the top, tongue, and over the toe. I'd also think patches, heart shaped perhaps, that matched the ribbon, with lace around the edge of them; positioned in the place where the star usually is. Even still, that would be more girly punk than lolita. Now, I think that sounds cute, but it's not the same thing as lolita and those shoes would probably look just as silly with most lolita clothes as they did before the addition. But if you want to do straight lolita, I really think you'd do better to buy a plain set of Mary Janes and leave your converse alone. I'm not saying modifying shoes is a bad idea, and I do love converse, I'm just not sure a converse can be lolita.
Edit: Be I want to be clear about this. You shouldn't be too worried about what Is Lolita and what Isn't Lolita, so long as you are pleased with the final product which is your appearance. Just be aware of how much of it is personal style and how much is fashion.

Thank you for your help! I thought about lace. I just only have 4 dollars and no source of income.
I would get some mary janes. Except for the fact that there are none around here I can find that I like/match what I like/work for me/fit me. Or my budget of 4 dollars. xD
I wish I wasn't poor emo

That is a rather small budget. My only thought is keep saving and keep looking. I know many of the shoes in shoes these days are really quite ugly, but sometimes they put out something simple and nice.

I'm going to have to disagree and say that even "lolifying" the converse won't make them right for a coordinate. I will also have to disagree with Kittywitch about worrying about what is and is not Lolita. Sneakers are an absolute no-no in Lolita because the intention of the outfit is for you to look beautiful and feminine, sneakers doesn't fit into either. Instead of going through with a fail project save $6 more dollars and hit up a thrift store, you will always be able to find some simple black mary janes for about $10 which will look a lot better in the long run. There is a right and economical way of getting Lolita and thrifting can help out a little in terms of shoes and blouses. I hope that helped

I dunno. I think if they're done up right, they can work for super casual outfits. If they didn't, Baby wouldn't keep producing ruffled-and-printed sneakers. XD
Then again, I'm of the mind that nearly any shoe can be worked into a coordinate with the right balance.

I'd agree that converse are not inherently lolita. I wouldn't wear them with a full blown outfit or anything, but they CAN make an interesting addition to a punk-loli or casual lolita outfit. Be careful what you coordinate them with and make sure they don't look "off". Other than that, trust your creative and aesthetic instinct. I do agree that if you have such a small budget you should consider saving it up for some maryjanes from Payless, or thrift stores, or something. I'm not here to tell you what to do with your money, but rather I'm trying to help you from spending money on stuff you're going to want to throw out only months from now. Just give it a thought? That said, here are some ideas. I also love crafts like this! : I would suggest against trying to add lace except maybe around the tops (if they're high tops) Paint is cheap at 50 cents for a bottle of acrylic. You could paint or draw on them in sweets themes, paint bows, flowers, etc. Rhinestone appliques, or even fabric ones, are options. Have you seen these? Hope that adds some inspiration!

I thought it was a lost cause myself until I saw them. I thought I would be scolded for trying, actually. People don't like me.
Thank you for all your help, guys. :3
I would definitely save my munny and go to the thrift store. In fact I've done so. I just don't have any source of income, so I'd have to wait until October to get more munny (my birthday) to look at stores. And when I do go to thrift stores, even if I find something I like, they never fit. crying
Though you're right, it'd definitely be worth it to save it. I kinda just want something to wear besides boots while I save, I suppose. I'll get good shoes eventually.
Although on the subject of coordinating: I'm a gothic lolita so it's not like I'm wearing dark black sneakers with pink candy dresses. It's all dark colours, so I don't think it stands out as much as it would if I were another style. Black Converse and sweet loli would look sillier than I do. o____o

Actually just because a "lolita" store sells something it doesn't mean that it can be counted as lolita. As example Btssb and Angelic Pretty also sell skimpy hotpants made from jeans (or common short visual kei pants) from time to time and that sure isn't something you wear with lolita.

i'm very sure that no one in the visual key style would like to use those sneakers, you can see the pattern of the fabric and know that those are very lolita o.O
although i would never wear'em...

Actually decora wears such shoes, not lolita and it is known since a long time that the most brands that were lolita-only first aim for them as customers since a while because they spend more money...

sweet and frilly=/= Lolita. I have to agree that a lot of brands come out with things that aren't really functional to wear. Baby does make the shoes but personally I have never seen anyone actually use them in an outfit.
As for the OP, collect all the change you find in the house xD. I use to do this when I was younger and needed something. More often than not parents hate all that change lingering in their wallets and purses so politely ask if you could have it. Change can go along way, especially quarters :3

Hahaha well of course, everyone knows that. Though I think with the right coordination they could work for some casual lolita looks. I think that may have been the intention. 3nodding I mean they obviously might look sort of off with a full-blown lolita outfit. . .
And I used to do that too! Before there were 10 people in my house who ALSO pick through everything for change. My mum is saving for her honeymoon. So when she finds a penny she's like "OOOOH!" and puts it in a collection jar. I don't have a chance. crying
