and having things which imitate people is haram?
I never knew that..
Is it ok to take pictures of people? Or...have a poster of a person in your room? Why can't you draw people?

Here is a pretty indepth fatwa on it. Only important things are permissable, like a police sketch of a criminal. But photos of things which are already living is okay. Quote: It is not permitted to draw anything that depicts animate beings, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, according to the saheeh hadeeth: “Every image maker will be in the Fire.” And he (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The most severely punished of people on the Day of Resurrection will be the image-makers, those who tried to imitate the creation of Allaah.” And he (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The makers of these images will be punished on the Day of Resurrection, and they will be told, ‘Give life to that which you have created.’”

So, I can't draw a REAL person? But I can draw a fake person, like out of my own imagination but it might somewhat look human?

dTranquility Well, I learn how to draw in college. How am I suppose to face that? I dont know, I'm not a scholar >< Its a certain point where we must do what we believe in our hearts pleases Allah (swt). With all this being said, I've got a ceramic camel in my bedroom :S

Inverse of it, you can create people that exist already, but not out of your imagination, because when you create people from your imagination, you are creating a whole new human architecture, which is some how related to Allah creating us. So on the day of judgment those who draw people out of their imagination will be asked to put soul in it, and he will not be able to do that. so its haram ^_^ @dTranquility: I have learn it as well, we used to make furniture designs and senaries, we never drew humans that exist or if they don't ^_^ + if you have done a sin, and then you come to know it was a sin, you will not be punished because your intention was not to do sin ^_^
