So as Christmas draws nearer, holiday specials are all over TV again. whee I love em! Sure lots of them are corny, but there are certain ones like the "Rankin/Bass" specials that I love to see every year. My favorite is "A Year Without a Santa Claus" purely because of Heat Miser and Snow Miser. xd There are a few that my parents taped of the TV in the 90's that I watch every year too. Like, Garfield's Christmas, and Muppet Family Christmas. Muppet Family Christmas is particularly good, because the Muppets cross over with the Sesame Street Gang, and they basically take over a farm house for Christmas. My favorite line of dialogue from that one?
Doc (A human character bewildered by the muppets): Hello I'm Doc! Ernie: Did you know that Doc starts with the letter D? Doc: True Bert: Oh! And True starts with the letter T! Doc: What is this?? Bert: Oh...where we come from, this is small talk.
blaugh So please share, what is your favorite holiday special, show, movie, what have you. Doesn't have to be Christmas either,

My favourite Chrismas movie has to be A Christmas Story. The "fragile" lamp makes me laugh every time it comes up. -Formerly La Belle Isolde-

Every year my family watches It's a Wonderful Life, A Christmas Carol, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and this weird little claymation movie made in the 60's - Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer. It's just not Christmas without those flicks whee
We also watch various other movies like Elf or The Santa Clause or Miracle on 34th Street or Bad Santa or A Christmas Story but, the ones in the previous list are our more traditional choices that he watch just about every year. smile

@Trish: Oh yeah! On Christmas Day there's usually a station that plays that movie for 24 continuous hours xd
@Kalib: Do you mean the animated version or the Jim Carrey version? The animated one was my favorite. I liked the Jim Carrey one....sorta....but I thought they added in too much un-needed backstory. Maybe I'm just picky.
@Ala: I loooooove Rudolph. The same people who made that one also made: A Year Without a Santa Claus and Santa Claus is Commin to Town. Both are excellent. They also made The Little Drummer Boy and Nestor the Long Eared Christmas Donkey....but I wouldn't reccomend either of those. Those two are kinda depressing. gonk Especially Nestor....Nestor the Long Eared Christmas Donkey also features a very trippy scene involving a cherub...and I'm assuming a lot of acid. xd

Seconded. Though my favorite parts were the Chinese restaurant singing carols and the "fudge" scene. ...And how has no one mentioned Frosty the Snowman yet? He's almost as much of a Christmas staple as Rudolph.

OMG I thought I was the only one who knows of the Muppet Family Christmas!!!! I LOVE that part with Bert and Ernie, too. It's like my favorite Sesame Street moment ever.
Every Christmas season I watch at least once: How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Chuck Jones animation of COURSE. The live action version does not exist in my world) It's Christmas, Charlie Brown Garfield Christmas Mickey's Christmas Carol The Muppet's Christmas Carol
If I can, I also watch: Elf Muppet Family Christmas Claymation Christmas Various Disney holiday shorts Nightmare Before Christmas
...And whatever I might catch on TV.
I never grew up watching the stop-motion ones like Rudolph or Heat Miser and such, but damn if that Heat Miser song ain't catchy. I somehow enjoy that song highly despite having never seen the actual movie that it's in.

Jack Frost (The movie with Michael Keaton) How the Grinch stole christmas A Year without a Santa Claus A Christmas Story (I, as well, also dreaded the infamous "You'll shoot your eye out" line)

I feel like a Grinch. I've never liked any of these specials, and am often forced to sit through them with friends. They just don't appeal, and having to see them every year drives me batty.
sweatdrop
I'm glad you guys enjoy them, at least.

...If you ever want an exquisitely BAD holiday special, try the Star Wars Holiday Special. ... ... ... No, I'm really NOT kidding. It's beyond terrible. George Lucas once said he'd like to burn every copy of it in existence. smile It actually reaches that state of complete dreck that makes it fascinating to watch. Oh, it's the first place Boba Fett showed up, too, though in animated form. I love both Mickey's Christmas Carol and the Muppet Christmas Carol, and have a soft spot for all the holiday specials mentioned above. "When I was a kid, we didn't have these all on cable or DVD or Blu-Ray. We watched 'em when they came on TV, back when we only had 5 stations!" "old man" voice> wink

I'm Mister White Christmas I'm Mister Snow I'm Mister Icicle I'm Mister Ten Below Friends call me Snow Miser, What ever I touch Turns to snow in my clutch I'm too much! He's Mister White Christmas He's Mister Snow He's Mister Icicle He's Mister Ten Below Friends call me Snow Miser, What ever I touch Turns to snow in my clutch He's too much! I never want to know a day That's over forty degrees I'd rather have it thirty, Twenty, then Five, then let it freeze! He's Mister White Christmas He's Mister Snow He's Mister Icicle He's Mister Ten Below Friends call me Snow Miser, What ever I touch Turns to snow in my clutch, I'm too much.
I always loved the Rudolf special, the claymation one, Muppets christmas, and the one where Santa becomes Santa, I can't remember what that one is called I think it's a claymation too. I also now want to see this star wars holiday special just to see it!

@Waku: Do you mean the Claymation Christmas with the California Rasins and the clamation dinosaurs? Because I watch that one too. xd I've got a tape with: Muppet Family Christmas, Garfield Christmas, and Claymation Christmas on it. It also has funny old commercials on it.
One of the weirest things though is, during the credits of Muppet Family Christmas, Dr. Timmothy Johnson starts talking about upcomming news stories. He says: Later on the news, we discuss the issues of life and death. Is it right to keep a dying baby alive so its organs can be used to save the life of another child? eek He says it during the credits!! I only just noticed this last year because I'd always fast forward through the credits to get to Garfield.

My favourite holiday movie - A Muppet's Christmas Carol. It's wonderful. My dad made our whole family watch it for as long as I can remember. Then we all just kinda made it a point to be home on Christmas Eve so we could watch it. =)
This will be my first year not watching it, as it is my first year away from home. Makes me homesick.
