So, I think you should all watch this video (both of them, actually).
It's a good, simple explanation of the problems with our current economy.
That is, it explains the problem with mass consumerism. It may not be news, but it's still worth watching.

It's about how much stuff we use in our daily lives and how much it can accumulate. Its about who we produce thsi stuff also and how much energy we are using to make it. Its all about our footprint.
