Any elf that wants to enter buys a ticket by sending 100 gold to Elf on a Bookshelf. At the end of the month, a random drawing is done to determine which of the elves that entered win ALL of the participating elves’ money and the 300 gold that Elf on a Bookshelf always contributes to the pot. For example, if 5 elves send 100g to enter the lottery, then one of them wins 800g by the end of the month (500g from the elves that entered and 300g from Elf on a Bookshelf.) All elves that participate in the lottery earn points.

Aries Mar 21 - Apr 19

With Saturn and Uranus in your health sectors, you may have been concerned about a health matter last month, for yourself or that of a close family member. The tensions you felt will soon leave when Mars moves into Leo on October 16. Everyone, of every sign, will feel a shift of emphasis when Mars goes into Leo, but you will feel this change twice as much because Mars is your ruler. This is exciting because Mars will remain in your house of true love from October 16 until June 6. You have just hit the cosmic jackpot! If you are not dating, this is the best possible news, for never have you had such a big window of opportunity to meet the right one for you. If you think you MIGHT be with the right one, you will have lots of time to get to know one another and find out.

Taurus Apr 20 - May 20

As October begins, treat yourself to a little rest. September was a difficult month for many. Even if you found that your love life and friendships remained on an even keel - the area the planets were focusing on in your chart - the people you know may have had serious personal difficulties, and because you are a caring person, you may feel wrung out, too. October will be so much better than September, on so many levels.

Gemini May 21 - June 20

Gemini hosted Saturn in your solar fourth house of home since September 2007 and that phase is now ending. For some Gemini, over the past two years, family news or responsibilities proved to be heavy and you may have had to help out. For other Gemini, the global housing crisis created a crisis in your personal life, and you had to quickly find ways to cope. Saturn teaches us that we are stronger than we assume, and more resourceful, too. In another instance, you may have found a house you bought to be a quite burden to pay for under this trend, but happily, you will find that this same house (if you still own it) will be easier to handle after you pass October 29. In fact you may not feel any burden at all. You are about to enter a fantastic career phase in 2010, so your income may soon go up dramatically, and may be the reason you will find the housing situation easing. Of course, there are many possible reasons, but that could be one. As you see, you have much to be excited about!

Cancer June 21 - July 22

There is a lot going on in October, for the scene is shifting and parts of your life that have been stagnant will jump to life. Areas you have not prioritized as Number One will become increasingly important too, so you may be juggling a lot in weeks ahead. Everyone of every sign will be feeling the ground move as planets play musical chairs, but you may notice it more, especially in October, because so much energy will be focused on the key angles of your chart. You may be saying, "Bring it on! I've been forced to wait out too many situations! I am ready to get going!" Now, that's the attitude to have!

Leo July 23 - Aug 22

What a relief. September is over, a very difficult month that may have given you a few scary moments in various parts of your life, and may have included a major financial consideration. No matter what happened - or didn't happen - last month, October will be a vast improvement. You deserve an easier life, dear Leo, and happily, it is on the way. You will see some major shifts in October, and all of them will bring events in the right direction.

Virgo Aug 23 - Sept 22

Saturn first entered Virgo in September 2007 and has remained there ever since. While you didn't feel Saturn's testing aspects the whole two years, when you did feel them, life may have turned inside out for you. Think back to where you were prior to September 2007, and compare that to where you are now. Pat yourself on the back for all the growth and maturity you've gained. Saturn is very fair and will never waste time teaching you things you already knew or things you would never in a million years get to use. Are you looking for a new pet? The move of Jupiter to direct speed should help you find the perfect pet for you because the sixth house, where Jupiter will be traveling, rules small domestic animals. If you have been worried about the health of your pet, you may now start to see improvement. From October 13 on, it will be easier to find work, and if self-employed, to get new clients.

Libra Sept 23 - Oct 22

This will be a very active important month where you can make more impressive progress than you have all summer. If you could see the pattern of planets, many of them are clustered at the key "angles" of the chart - that is, the north, south, east, and west points on the wheel. Because most of the planets this month will be in cardinal signs like yours, you'll be eager to get going on a key project. If you have a goal, that's great, but if you don't, these planets will make you unrelentingly restless. You have a bright, clear road ahead at long last, so it would be the perfect month to commit to a goal that you'd like to accomplish before 2009 comes to an end. In a month like this, you'll be downright unstoppable.

Scorpio Oct 23 - Nov 21

This is the month your life will begin to turn a corner and bring you much closer to life as you want it, both personally and professionally. When you begin to see things change for the better, no one will be more surprised than you. For too long, you've had quite a no-frills life, and you've not seen much evidence that this would ever change. Furthermore, you need evidence that you've been making the right moves and showing good judgment, and that will show up soon now, too. This month will be chock-full of news, and as tense as September proved to be (and it was that, for sure), October will be just the opposite - joyful, lively, and full of fast-moving events.

Sagittarius Nov 22 - Dec 21

Are you hoping to adopt a baby or are you pregnant and awaiting the moment when it's time to go to the hospital? Keep those bags packed within four days of October 4, the most likely time of the month to give birth or hear news from the adoption agency. ] If you have children, you may be riveted on one of them in the first week and making plans for that child. If you are self-employed (or want to be), you may have been busy presenting your business plan to investors - or if you are at the end of a marriage, you may have tried to negotiate the division of property in a divorce. These matters will likely be cleared up by mid-month. If you have been having a dispute with an insurance company, I feel both sides will settle, for talks would not likely extend beyond October 15, the date Mars will leave Cancer.

Capricorn Dec 22 - Jan 19

No one can ever take your reputation away from you. With Venus circulating in this house in the second half of October, the buzz about you will be very, very positive among VIPs. Saturn is the taskmaster planet, so you will likely take on a position of great responsibility sometime in the coming three years, the length of time Saturn will spend in this house. Saturn will make you work hard for all that you gain, but it's ultimately worth the effort, for what you are left with you keep forever.

Aquarius Jan 20 - Feb 18

The reason you have had such a hard time controlling your money lately is that you had innocently flown your little airplane into the airspace of a major dispute going on between Uranus and Saturn that has been raging as far back as November 4, 2008. In your solar chart, Uranus (unexpected happenings) was found in your second house of earned income, opposed to Saturn (a constrictive influence that limits and reduces whatever it touches) in your house of credit, loans, and "other people's money." Let's not forget that Uranus is your ruling planet too, giving Uranus more weight in your chart. Having your ruler being beat over the head by Saturn is not easy. Last month brought some very tense moments in regard to finances, but now it is October and you'll find yourself in far better territory.

Pisces Feb 19 - March 20

You may have had to leave a marriage, friendship, or business partnership. Or, if you trusted an investor, you may have been let down at the last minute when the money was not delivered. If others were not living up to their promises, it was to cause vast problems in your life, and you had to face what was happening squarely and make a plan, most likely to leave. Part of Saturn's lesson may have been to assess realistically the promises others made for you. On the flip side, you were also learning that you, too, had to fulfill promises to others, even if you had not thought too deeply about those promises while you were making them. Hopefully, you have learned your lesson and will continue to trust others in a realistic way in the future.
