I thought that we might as well have an official thread for all of our book discussions. I will begin by telling everyone that I am in a Jane Austen class this semester. Tonight before class started, a classmate showed me a book that she got. It is called Mr. Darcy, Vampyre After the wedding is over, Elizabeth discovers that Mr. Darcy is really a vampyre. blaugh I also have Pride and Prejudice and Zombies on my shelf. I haven't gotten around to reading it yet, but I want to when I have time. heart

Okay, I saw the Pridea and Prejudice Zombies book in the bookstore and was like ???
It looks interesting . . . so the author just insersts so extra scenes into the novel and it becomes all zombiesque?

I think that she replaces certain scenes. I heard that it is 80% Austen and 20% zombies. I could be wrong, but I think that Mr. Darcy becomes a zombie. Alvinette told me about another book by the same author: Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters. blaugh I wonder why everyone is suddenly so fascinated in adding monsters to Jane Austen's novels. If ever a monster needed to be in a novel, it would be Mansfield Park. Fannie needs to be werewolf or something. rofl

Hmm, that is really interesting. . . . Austen and monsters. I shall have to check it out; see what I think!
I have Pride and Prejudice, but I haven't had time to read it. I think it is in one of the boxes I haven't unpacked yet. rolleyes My hubby and I came across some just last night when we were looking for records for his mom's 50th birthday party all us kids are planning for her. I just found the book with my LOTR set in it before we left for our trip. It was great reading it out loud in the car when the scenery was boring. smile We only got about halfway through Fellowship, though. It was great pointing out the differences and omissions from the movie, to my hubby who saw the movies, but isn't really a reader. I'm looking forward to continuing when we can.

I am currently reading two books... they aren't Austen books but they are good. i am reading Wuthering Heights and Fragile Eternity They are both good but i dont like Fragile Eternity only because the character i like was screwed over!!!! Sorry i have strong feelings on that one there. Also for all of you music people interested in music and elements you should read "The Beautiful city of the dead!" It was a good book sorry i am a 14 year old novel reader who cant get enough of books and thinks that even the classics are amazing. Hey why I am just babling on here about books has anyone every read the book called My Sister's Keeper? I heard it was good soo...... is it???????/

So you feel the same way about Fannie? blaugh She's no Elizabeth or Emma. I'm a big fan of the strong women. That's one of the reasons why I love Dracula so much. Mina Harker is a seriously cool heroine.
Sammy, you seriously need to read Pride and Prejudice sometime. It's one of the best romances ever written. And Elizabeth is such a great character! heart And I hope that you know that you have suddenly made me want to go through my Tolkien collection. lol
Twi, I've read Wuthering Heights, but I haven't read the others or even heard of them. sweatdrop Heathcliff is such a great villain. xd Have you read Jane Eyre? You might like that one too. Personally, Jane Eyre is one of my favorites. heart And it sounds to me like you're being hard on yourself! Don't be! It's great that you love to read! I wish that more people your age would read. Books are very beautiful things! (That is, unless they are written by Henry James and a few other authors that I am not too fond of.)

Henry James. Bleagh. I had to read The Portrait of a Lady for a research paper when I was in eleventh grade. I loathed each and every one of the characters. I was sooo glad to be finished, and it cured me of ever wanting to read another Henry James book again.
But....Mr. Darcy, Vampyre!?!? What the...? eek Oy.

HA! I just thought of something. Maybe vampires, werewolves, zombies, sea monsters, and the like would actually make The Portrait of a Lady INTERESTING. blaugh

Mademoiselle Alvinette HA! I just thought of something. Maybe vampires, werewolves, zombies, sea monsters, and the like would actually make The Portrait of a Lady INTERESTING. blaugh I don't think that even all of those monsters together could make anything by Henry James interesting. xp

Does anybody like to go to used bookstores and read out-of-print authors? One of my favorites is Helen MacInnes, whose writing career spanned from 1939 until her death in 1985. She wrote spy thrillers, and many of these were the kind in which the main character is an ordinary person who witnesses something and then inadvertently gets mired in espionage. (That's my favorite kind of spy thriller, by the way.) I also like to read Victoria Holt and Phyllis A. Whitney (gothic romance/mystery), but they're also very hard to find unless I go to a library or a used bookstore.

Cool! I would love to read Jane Austen's parody of the History of England that she wrote when she was a teenager. I bet it would be hilarious!
